25.01.2022 NEW ONLINE Meet the new granule droplet necklaces. Id been wanting to create something fine and delicate, (and not a ring!) for a while now.... And I realised that I had all of these stunning little round cut stones that were just desperately wanting to be used! Meet the first two: Rose gold and sparkly-as-all-get-out lavender-grey spinel version White gold and rose-cut-mysterious-needle-inclusions dusty pink sapphire version Delicately strung on a fine as fine, yet strong as strong Australian made cable chain. Available online, and as always, if youve got a particular combo you want custom made, you know where to find me.

25.01.2022 GENERATIONS Heres the result of a complete remake of a ring that has lived through decades, a century in fact. Its lived through war, peace, depression, births, deaths, reunions, global movements. But those are the big things.... Its also lived through the quiet things. Cuddles, domestic tiffs, cooked meals, bathing babies, walks, school pick-ups, toasting marshmallows. The whole ring might be brand new, but the stories those diamonds hold (and the little bit of original gold in there) will live inside and be carried along forever, no matter what. Legend has it that Great Grandmother was always uncomfortable with the fact that it had 13 diamonds, and supposedly had a random extra one glued in there at some point. To honour this family legend, a new little one has been added inside, tipping the number scale to a more even 14. Its a fitting addition for this rings 2.0 version. The honour of this job weighs heavy on me, I will forever be amazed at the level of trust this requires. Its both daunting and exhilarating at the same time.

24.01.2022 SPECTACULAR SAPPHIRE Seriously, does a parti sapphire get much better than this? When Unicorn Gems presented me with this custom cut, after weeks and weeks of searching for juuuuust the right one for this ring, I was blown away! It was totally a case of the universe providing for this ring, after many patient weeks that turned into months, this was the sapphire shed been waiting for.... Made in rose gold, and offset with a warm little champagne Argyle diamond.

24.01.2022 POSTCARD FOR *ahem.... 2020 In case you didn't know, around this time every year I compile a bunch of rings from the past 12 months(ish) and make a postcard. If you've received a parcel in the mail from me you've likely got one of them with some scrawl written on the back of it.... I was reluctant to make one for 2020, (I think I was scared of some bizarre consequence ) but alas, people are making miraculous whole humans this year, so the very least I can do is make a postcard. I'm pretty happy with this one! It has a lovely mix of colours and shapes. Obviously I can't include everything, even when I wish I could (I have a soft spot for EVERY ring I make). I hope it brings you joy to look at! . . . . . . . . . . . #madebySEJ #australiansapphire #partisapphire #pearl #argylediamond #freeformgemstones #sapphires #pearlring #weddingrings #jewellery #customjob #madebycommission #commissionjewellery #contemporaryjewellery #customorders #madebyhand #handcrafted #handmadejewellery #handmade #australianmade #supportsmall #susanewington #handmadeinnoosa #jewellery #jewellerydesign #finejewellery #buylocalnoosa See more

23.01.2022 MY VERY OWN RING This is my own gold granule ring, sitting in the sand last weekend while I watched my boys roll down the sand dunes 476 times. Its the first one of these I ever made, and it was about 10 or so years ago. I have worn it almost everyday since, clearly its very versatile ... But, I take it off when I get home and put it in my special spot with my other daily wears. That way its going to last a lot longer, hopefully long enough to pass down through the family. In my imagination this is what you all do with your jewellery too, right?! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #madebySEJ #gold #granulering #goldgranules #sand #beach #stackingrings #goldring #ring #supportsmallbusiness #contemporaryjewllery #contemporary #australianmadeandowned #australianmade #handmadejewellery #handmade #handmadeinnoosa #minimaldesign #handcrafted #jewellerydesign #jewellery #onlinestore #handcraftedjewellery #queenslanddesigner #madeinaustralia #madeinqueensland #traditionaltechniques #alternativewedding #alternativebridal #altbridal See more

22.01.2022 SAPPHIRE SET Wow. It's safe to say, I LOVED making these! So excited to be able to show you these stunning sapphire and Argyle diamond rings, sent all the way to Canada to the most beautiful couple.... Justin & Andrew had recently bought some of my ombré bands for each other from Arbor, and then decided to go right ahead and get some engagement rings made using these amazing Australian parti sapphires (mined and cut by Andrew Jarrett in Queensland) Whack on a few champagne Argyle diamonds, pop 'em with 18ct gold in two tones, wide bands, and they sidle up next to their ombré bands like they were meant to be together all along. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Sort of (Thanks to Justin for the wonderful pic of the rings all together!)

22.01.2022 WHEAT Hand stamped wheat detail on the shoulders of this band. Prosperity, longevity, rebirth and regrowth, fertility, and abundance; the meaning of this symbol in jewellery is wide and varied, and oh so appropriate in many ways.... Fun fact: I picked up the little tool that I use to stamp these with from a random antique shop many years ago. Along with the amazing cobblers hammer that I use for pretty much every hammering job. Definitely one of the perks of this job, collecting old sh*t and making it useful. . . . . . . . . . . . . #SEJHQ #jewellerytools #customjewellerstools #customadetools #toolsofthetrade #tools #jewellerystudio #jewelleryworkshop #jewellersworkshop #jewellerytools #jewellerstools #preciousmetal #jewellery #handmadejewellery #traditionaltechniques #goldsmithery #goldsmithing #goldsmith #silversmith #silversmithing #handmadeinnoosa #behindthescenes #maker #makersmovement #makersunite #oldschool #toolsofmytrade #handcrafted #jeweller @ Susan Ewington Jewellery See more

22.01.2022 What little girl wouldn't dream of having this around her neck? I made the Hanami cut ring for my sister, so naturally my niece got her own Hanami too! Hard to photograph, but check out the video for that sparkler! The softest pink Mahenge garnet expertly cut by Tia Ong in Melbourne ... Set in 9ct yellow gold.

21.01.2022 REBUILD, RESTORE, REMODEL I have the absolute honour of remaking this family heirloom. This ring, passed down through 3 generations, is currently in its rebirth phase. ... When its finished, it will be a completely new version of the same ring. Totally remade, a tiny bit more robust in appearance, and a whole lot stronger. Ready to face another 3 generations if its lucky. The irony of the timing of this job is not lost on me. For the past few weeks I have kind of been in my own version of this: Re-learning my place and position as a white woman in Australia. Re-storing the shock and anger of a knowledge base that I have experienced growing up in a system that is wholly outdated, and in fact, never really was in date. Re-modelling the topics of conversations and discussions that I have between my family, my children, my friends, and the wider community. Re-building the language I use. The things I notice now that I never did before. Laying the foundations for what needs to change first under my own roof, in the hope that every one else that needs to be doing the same is doing so too. And perhaps it is naive, but I really hope that this is our collective rebirth phase too. . . . . . . . . . . . . . #madebySEJ #australiansapphire #partisapphire #freeformgemstones #ricesheaf #sterlingsilverring #colouredgemstones #colouredgems #jewellery #customjob #madebycommission #commissionjewellery #contemporaryjewellery #customorders #madebyhand #handcrafted #handmadejewellery #handmade #australianmade #supportsmall #susanewington #handmadeinnoosa #jewellery #jewellerydesign #finejewellery #buylocalnoosa See more

21.01.2022 FULLY BOOKED FOR NOW Hello friends! I have decided to temporarily close custom makes to new enquiries. At this stage it will be until around November/December 2020 before I can take on new enquiries. Ive found myself to have an abundance of beautiful custom projects underway, so much so that I really need to halt anything else coming in, just for now.... If you want to have first dibs to know when Im ready to take on new enquiries for customs, please use the link below to sign up to the mailing list, which will act as a waitlist If you are currently in discussion with me about a project, thats still as normal - you are in my current projects space and Im loving every minute of it If you are shopping online, and the item you want is listed as made to order, I can still accommodate that, so that doesnt change If you are unsure about anything, please just get in touch! Why the halt on customs? Trust me, I never saw this one coming! But, custom projects take a huge amount of work behind the scenes, and if I cant nurture each enquiry with the attention it deserves, then its just not as fun for me, or for you! And Im all about the fun. And I dont just do customs, I also work closely with my beautiful stockists, who require top ups and lovely things for their stores. Other than that, nothing else will noticeably change, Ill still be here rambling away where I can. And if I end up being able to accommodate new enquiries earlier than expected - just make sure youre on the mailing list and youll know straight up! And lastly (but most importantly), wow My thanks and deepest gratitude for supporting my business Now, back to work. Mailing List/Waitlist sign up www.susanewington.com.au

20.01.2022 NEW ONLINE Rose gold beach glass earrings - for the first time ever! I feel like it's very different these days, but it used to be that if you were a rose gold lover, you were REALLY passionate about it. Like, to the point of obsession (trust me, I briefly worked for a big jewellery chain store a loooong time ago, and those old-school-rose-gold-lovers were intense ).... There was a huge amount of traditional jewellery available in rose gold, but contemporary? Not so much. These days I reckon it's so different though. Wear all the metal colours I (and many others) say. It took me a long time to catch up on the rose gold love myself, but honestly, it's such a warm and understated colour on many skin tones. It's popularity is soaring at the moment - have you noticed how many rings I've been making lately in rose gold? Anyhoo, for the first time ever, I've made these glorious forest green beach glass earrings in rose gold. For the less intense and rare breed of beach-glass-rose-gold-loving folk. 18.01.2022 WATER & DIRTY RINGS This question has been raised with me more than twice in one week, "Why am I getting a rash on my finger when I wear this ring?" (Note: not on rings that Ive made, but the message still stands!) Now, there can be a number of more unusual reasons for this (allergies to certain metal alloys for example), but the most common reason is contact dermatitis, where there is a cavity underneath some stone settings and upon closer inspection - IT NEEDS TO BE CLEA...NED. With all of this extra hand washing at the moment, its also really important to DRY underneath your ring/s when you wash your hands. Water and soap residue caught underneath your stone settings will just turn festy in combination with skin particles etc, totally gross I know. I really let loose on some of these cleaning and care issues in my blog post 10 Ways To Keep Your Jewellery In Tip-Top Shape, so head over to the journal and read it if you wanna hear me get a bit ranty. Link below. I also delve into a really simple at-home method to clean your rings. Oh and please dont forget your earrings too, the unexpected hoarders of gunk that they are. https://www.susanewington.com.au//10-ways-to-keep-your-jew

17.01.2022 WELL, THIS IS A FIRST! I cant believe I am saying this, but I am currently booked out for custom makes until October. (And the reason I am telling you this in a post is more for my sake than yours - I am now accountable to my own boundaries ) Ok, heres how I think this works (and please excuse me if I sound fumbly, but Im not really sure how best to explain)... If you are one of the people who have been chatting with me about a custom lately, or have already confirmed your order, please rest assured that I am still on the timeline we have discussed for your particular piece. If you have been wanting to get in touch with me about a custom make, please do so! I am still here for enquiries and designing, its just the actual making part that needs to wait until October. You never know what happens and there may be an opportunity to slide up the wait list, so feel free to let me know if you want to be on it. For immediate satisfaction, head to my online store, and my beautiful stockists @arborbrunswick @egetal and @kingallery My endless gratitude for those who are currently awaiting their pieces, or deep diving into designs with me. 17.01.2022 CELESTIAL The sweetest of little necklaces going out to the sweetest little girl who has just entered this crazy amazing world. Her name means celestial and she was born in January, so it was only fitting that her first piece of jewellery has a star and some garnets. Obviously, its gonna be a while before she can actually wear it, but her very loving uncle is keeping the tradition alive of gifting his nieces with a future heirloom.... This one is white gold, and set with two vintage style single cut garnets. These garnets were from my special reserved collection, cut by the late Paul Fenselau. Its only fitting that these special stones deserve to go in the most special of pieces from here forward . . . . . . . . . . . #madebySEJ #garnet #paulfenselau #singlecutgarnet #star #celestial #celine #whitegoldnecklace #necklace #whitegold #contemporaryjewellerydesign #custommadejewellery #customjob #madebycommission #commissionjewellery #contemporaryjewellery #customorders #madebyhand #handcrafted #handmadejewellery #handmade #australianmade #supportsmall #susanewington #handmadeinnoosa #jewellery #jewellerydesign #finejewellery @ Noosa, Queensland See more

I have some ready to be shipped on my website, and the rest can be found at my lovely stockists @arborbrunswick, @egetal, and @kingallery. 16.01.2022 CRAFTSPERSON MINDSET Im on my second (!) read through of The Company of One by Paul Jarvis. Its all about why staying small in business is the quite possibly the best approach, for many reasons. (thanks for the ace recco @onewildride_) Theres a particular point where Jarvis talks about why following your "passion" is not always the best approach in small business, and why adopting a "craftsperson" mindset is better, and the passion will follow as a co...nsequence. "The craftsperson mindset keeps you focused on what you can offer the world. The passion mindset focuses instead on what the world can offer you." Notice that subtle distinction? The craftsperson mindset is focused on what it is trying to create, what skills and problem solving are necessary to get there, and is fulfilled in the simple offering of it to the world upon its completion. The passion mindset is focused on the dream, the chase, and perhaps the notion that the universe will offer up all the requirements simply because its passionately asked for. It has no end, and it might always want "more". Its both a tiny AND a huge distinction, right? It really resonated with me! Its not by any means being dismissive of passion, of course its important to feel passionate about what youre doing if youre in small business. But Ive talked about the roles of "craft" and "passion" in various ways on here before (checkout the conversations highlights) and when Im passionate about a topic (I know, I know, the irony is not lost on me here) I just love sharing these musings with you all. If you got this far, thank you for reading! You may have been following along with this one on Instagram since its inception (one of the rare occasions I get to spill the deets while its being made and not have to keep it a secret)... All 18ct yellow, and one sneaky 18ct white gold detail. One big and beautiful Australian sapphire in a rare light blue, mined and cut by Andrew Jarrett in Queensland. One champagne Argyle baguette diamond, and a smatter of tonal blue and green sapphires to round out that stunning colour combo. Forever in love with the challenge of balancing coloured stones and unusual combinations. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the privilege of being able to create these pieces!

15.01.2022 Making gemstone pieces for men, I am SO here for that. It features an incredible Australian parti sapphire, cut by Unicorn Gems. Set into a sliding double bailed 18ct setting, on a 9ct white gold Australian manufactured chain. 14.01.2022 DEEP TEAL Whats my most requested sapphire colour? Teal. Teal. Teal. The gem cutter that mined and cut this one (you know, my mate Andrew the Queenslander) tells me that once upon a time, back in the day, hed find a teal piece of rough and chuck it back over his shoulder! There was just zero interest in this colour.... These were the days, Ive been told, that almost every piece of decent sapphire rough got shipped overseas, heat treated, cut, and the best stones stayed in the illustrious overseas market, while the dregs got sold back to us over here. Lordy, Im glad these days its different! On so many levels. Meanwhile, these little Aussie teal babies are in high demand now. Im not sad about that, despite them being harder to source or costing more. To me it means that the consumers, the wearers, you, are honouring the value of these precious gems. These precious gems deserve this value. I mean, cmon, look at that colour! This particular ring is a 1.51ct Queensland mined and cut freeform sapphire, set in 9ct palladium white gold. Its AVAILABLE through @Arbor, Brunswick (and by that I mean, its literally on the way there now, and the lovely Elli will help you with any enquiries with it as soon as shes had a chance to get over looking at it ) Not only that, did you know that I have a little stash of sapphires similar to this (and completely different!) that are just patiently waiting to be made into something spectacular?! You can find out more about custom made, and explore the gallery of rings on the website, as always. x S

13.01.2022 I got to make something for a gemmologist See that little dark blue stone there? That's pretty much the rarest colour of spinel you can get. A natural cobalt blue from Vietnam. Spinel is such a wonderful gemstone, and it comes in a stunning array of colours, but until Julia Morganite entrusted this one to me to make into a special ring for her, I didn't even realise this colour existed! And what about that blue zircon?! The rough was purchased from Cambodia on their travels..., then combined with an incredible cut which was done by her husband Steve Morganite (together they are Amara Gemstones) Set in 9ct white gold. Such a fun ring! And I can't get over how sparkly that blue zircon is Thank you for such a special and symbolic project Julia & Steven

13.01.2022 I haven't posted one of these in a while. Most of you already know, but for those that don't, this is how I make my freeform bezels. Measure, score, fold. Back when I started using these freeforms (about 7 years ago), they were kinda not very popular or readily available, to my knowledge anyway. Some of you may recall me telling how when I took my first ring with a stone like this into @arborbrunswick I told Elli, the owner, that it was "pretty weird but s...omeone might like it" Now, I'm told by one of my gorgeous suppliers that they refer to this cut in-house as a 'sewington' and I can honestly say that I am so chuffed by that knowledge. I would be lying if I told you that as I've seen this cut become more and more popular over the years, that on occasion I have felt protective of it. But what I'm really most proud of is NOT protecting it. Let me try to explain: We were driving to the marina for a family day on our little red boat. My 6yo saw another car with a boat driving in front of us and said with frustration "Ugh, I don't like that boat, they're going to take the last car park". (It can get crowded quickly at our local marina, and if you've ever tried to park with a trailer and two young kids, well you'll know) I decided this was the opportunity to explain the concept of Abundance Mindset to him. "What's abundance?" he says. To which I tried to explain how the universe always provides, and in order to receive we must try to remember that there is always enough for us when we need it. Of course, we got a park. This is quite the broad stretch to connect back to the freeform gems But I guess what I'm trying to say here is that in design and creativity, I truly believe there is always enough for everyone. In positivity and abundance, have a beautiful day. x S See more

11.01.2022 NOTES FROM MY 80 YEAR OLD SELF Late last year I did a business coaching course with Owners Collective. Most of you know this. But what you dont know, is that one of the exercises I had to do was to write down notes from my 80 year old self ... This morning, in an attempt to rustle up some content ideas, I re-read these notes. I must have been on some kind of mega articulate, woo-woo, and self developed train of thought when I wrote them, because they actually sound pretty fancy-schmancy. Heres a few of them: You loved wholly & enthusiastically You overcame your worrying nature You raised kind, tolerant, and balanced men You gave knowledge whenever you could You had a second run of travel adventures You worked in a way that secured your life financially, without sacrificing time spent with loved ones, or feeling as though you needed "more" But when I got to this last one, I was so blown away... The world went through a tipping point, you played a part in turning that around, we dont live on Mars, and we didnt destroy the earth Now, Im not trying to sound all preachy here or anything, and I know I am speaking from a position of extreme privilege. But, these were written down from my imagination as an old woman, highlighting what was actually playing on my 37 year old selfs mind at the time. And it does make me think, dont you reckon we all kind of knew these big changes were coming? Dont you think that deep down we knew that some massive sh*t needed to occur for us to "wake up"? I commented this in my Instagram stories the other day, but I feel like it deserves to be said again: I dont think Ive ever felt so torn between trying to feel and act normal, yet feeling such a sense of wonder and trust in such a big universal shift, all the while trying to project empathy and sympathy and love across some invisible forcefield. Im not really sure what else to say in this post, but maybe you could have a go at writing down notes from your imaginary 80 year old self too? Or, if you are already 80, maybe write down a humorous memory from your past that a younger loved one could read and connect with. For eg, I would love to what kind of curious adventures my Dad (who for the record is not 80 yet!) got up to in his late teens x S

11.01.2022 I had this tile saved on my grid to post at some point. I think I originally had it in mind to reflect on Covid and the changes that it has brought us all. A mere couple of sentences that I wrote in a previous post about the bushfires, in what seems like a lifetime ago now. But now, its relevant for so many reasons.... This is my only post this week. 11.01.2022 A custom version of my granule droplet necklace in the most delicious red garnet and 9ct yellow gold combo. Now happily with its new owner. There are two other versions of this minimal sparkler available on the website: one in rose gold with a lavender-grey spinel, and one in white gold with a pink rose cut sapphire.... Happy weekend folks!

10.01.2022 HANDMADE? Theres a BIG difference between handmade and handmade. What on earth do I mean? ... Something might be stated as being handmade, but really, its hand FINISHED from a casting (a mould method). Now, before you come at me or take offence, please know that Im not poo-pooing casting AT ALL. It absolutely has its place, is an ancient technique in its own rights, and done right, its often a very smart and sensible production method. But something that is the correct definition of handmade is made by hand from start to finish. Read this excerpt from my SEJ Glossary - Jewellery Terms That Matter that Ive been working on Something that is Hand Fabricated Anything which is made using techniques and tools controlled by hand. Hand constructed and assembled, with the assistance of tools and traditional techniques How can you tell the difference between them when youre a customer and not a jeweller? Ask! Theres nothing wrong with asking how its made, and if it is cast, then thats totally ok, at least you know. And more importantly, at least you know that your jeweller is transparent and an absolutely awesome human! Terminology transparency is EVERYTHING. We are arguably now more than ever aware of the importance of terminology, in every facet of communication. And its fluid, like everything else in life, so what once seemed fine might have a better alternative now. 09.01.2022 NEW ONLINE Meet the new granule droplet necklaces. I'd been wanting to create something fine and delicate, (and not a ring!) for a while now.... Available online, and as always, if you've got a particular combo you want custom made, you know where to find me.

09.01.2022 GENERATIONS Here's the result of a complete remake of a ring that has lived through decades, a century in fact. It's lived through war, peace, depression, births, deaths, reunions, global movements. But those are the big things.... It's also lived through the quiet things. It's a fitting addition for this ring's 2.0 version. The honour of this job weighs heavy on me, I will forever be amazed at the level of trust this requires. It's both daunting and exhilarating at the same time.

07.01.2022 DEEP TEAL What's my most requested sapphire colour? Teal. Teal. Teal. The gem cutter that mined and cut this one (you know, my mate Andrew the Queenslander) tells me that once upon a time, back in the day, he'd find a teal piece of rough and chuck it back over his shoulder! There was just zero interest in this colour.... These were the days, I've been told, that almost every piece of decent sapphire rough got shipped overseas, heat treated, cut, and the best stones stayed in the illustrious overseas market, while the dregs got sold back to us over here. Lordy, I'm glad these days it's different! On so many levels. Meanwhile, these little Aussie teal babies are in high demand now. I'm not sad about that, despite them being harder to source or costing more. To me it means that the consumers, the wearers, you, are honouring the value of these precious gems. These precious gems deserve this value. I mean, c'mon, look at that colour! This particular ring is a 1.51ct Queensland mined and cut freeform sapphire, set in 9ct palladium white gold. It's AVAILABLE through @Arbor, Brunswick (and by that I mean, it's literally on the way there now, and the lovely Elli will help you with any enquiries with it as soon as she's had a chance to get over looking at it ) Not only that, did you know that I have a little stash of sapphires similar to this (and completely different!) that are just patiently waiting to be made into something spectacular?! You can find out more about custom made, and explore the gallery of rings on the website, as always. x S

07.01.2022 Still catching up on showing you some work from the end of 2020. This was a huge one! It was made for a beautiful local Noosa lady, who had a bunch of older rings that were in need of repair or just not being worn. ... The brief: Use up all the diamonds she had. Make it into a very wide, two tone gold ring. Oh, and make it asymmetrical with some 'lightness', not too clunky. It's quite the challenge to combine multiple diamonds, in random sizes, along with one big rectangular cut one. And also to make them appear like they were meant to be all together. So here you have it. I quite liked the way it was more of a little sculptural piece from all sides, and how it looked being photographed on this peculiar angle. 18ct yellow and white gold, diamond. [Image description: a ring on a white background. The ring is not facing the front, but balancing on its side on a downward angle with the central feature part towards the lower right side. It is a combination of three combined rings joined together, with the two outer rings in yellow and not completely a full circle, one side has a row of round diamonds set in it. The central band is white gold, with a large rectangular cut diamond in the centre flanked by large round diamonds decreasing in size along each side.] See more

05.01.2022 SAGE SAPPHIRE Finally, this incredible sage toned sapphire found its forever home. This Australian parti sapphire, cut by Langford Gems, was definitely one of those ones that was waiting patiently for its owner. I always say this, but honestly, Im forever amazed at how when someone hones in on a stone for a custom piece, its a quiet moment between the stone and the person. 04.01.2022 "So when DO you do your work?" This was the question I was asked the other day, when I was sitting with one of my customers, working on her upcoming design. I had to giggle to myself. She was referring to the actual bench work, and it made me think too.... Im not exaggerating when I say that some weeks I spend 70% of my time on the computer or on the phone (making phone calls or researching, not scrolling Instagram, I swear ) But lately Ive been working really hard on defining processes and systems to level that out a bit better, moving forward. As with anything thats growing, theres constant change. The only problem is that to move into the vision of more bench time, theres more admin to do . . . . . . . . . . . #SEJHQ #smallbusinessreality #onlinestore #noosaindustrialestate #susanewingtonjewellery #jewellerystudio #jewelleryworkshop #handmadejeweller #handmadejewellery #custommade #custommadejewellery #bespoke #bespokejeweller #contemporaryjewellery #jewellerydesigner #australianmade #madeinaustralia #noosa #noosaville #noosaartist #sunshinecoast #artisan #ethical #shoplocal #supportsmall #smallbusiness #localknowledge #toolsofthetrade #traditionaltechniques See more

04.01.2022 NEW ONLINE Rose gold beach glass earrings - for the first time ever! I feel like its very different these days, but it used to be that if you were a rose gold lover, you were REALLY passionate about it. Like, to the point of obsession (trust me, I briefly worked for a big jewellery chain store a loooong time ago, and those old-school-rose-gold-lovers were intense ).... There was a huge amount of traditional jewellery available in rose gold, but contemporary? Not so much. These days I reckon its so different though. Wear all the metal colours I (and many others) say. It took me a long time to catch up on the rose gold love myself, but honestly, its such a warm and understated colour on many skin tones. Its popularity is soaring at the moment - have you noticed how many rings Ive been making lately in rose gold? 03.01.2022 CRAFTSPERSON MINDSET I'm on my second (!) read through of 'The Company of One' by Paul Jarvis. It's all about why staying small in business is the quite possibly the best approach, for many reasons. (thanks for the ace recco @onewildride_) There's a particular point where Jarvis talks about why following your "passion" is not always the best approach in small business, and why adopting a "craftsperson" mindset is better, and the passion will follow as a co...nsequence. The passion mindset is focused on the dream, the chase, and perhaps the notion that the universe will offer up all the requirements simply because it's passionately asked for. It has no end, and it might always want "more". It's both a tiny AND a huge distinction, right? It really resonated with me! It's not by any means being dismissive of passion, of course it's important to feel passionate about what you're doing if you're in small business. But I've talked about the roles of "craft" and "passion" in various ways on here before (checkout the 'conversations' highlights) and when I'm passionate about a topic (I know, I know, the irony is not lost on me here) I just love sharing these musings with you all. If you got this far, thank you for reading! 03.01.2022 Green is such a symbolic colour for an engagement ring. It has long been known in many cultures to represent growth, vitality, to flourish, spring, hope Its name in English has its linguistic roots in Germanic and Old Norse words for grass, to grow. In the Latin derived languages, it's associated with the terms meaning Spring, to revive. This beautiful Australian green sapphire in 18ct white gold has recently been proposed with ... It's my absolute honour to create these precious little houses for Mother Nature's gems. To have them loved and cherished in such a special way. [Image description: A ring on an all white background. 02.01.2022 10 YEARS AGO... I was making these hand forged bangles. They were SO popular, but they took SO much effort to make. I was relatively new to the jewellery world (3 years or so into it). I didnt know much about traditional making, running a business, or whether I would ever know enough to actually make a living out of this. I just kept going with it, and hoped for the best. I also had some great opportunities and worked really hard along the way for busine...sses within the industry who taught me so much (heres looking at you Robyn @small_space_jewellery) Now Im finding that I can offer help and advice to others about what works and what hasnt worked, and I bloody love it! It brings me so much joy to know that there is a place for makers, and there is an abundance of support for the handmade industry, even in times of weirdness. Perhaps even more so in times of weirdness - YOLO right?! Yes, these bangles were a BIG effort to make (and yes, I probably didnt charge nearly enough for them at the time). But theyre basically the physical representation of my creative business journey so far. Big effort Loads of unpaid hours Many upside-down and around the corner turns Smooth sailing Black and white Never ending (Oh, and please dont ask me about making you one of these bangles. They are very much a vintage SEJ. One day, when I really want to mix it up and get nostalgic, Ill make one and charge the appropriate price for it) image by Jeremy Dillon See more

02.01.2022 PROGRESS Two freeform bezels in progress. Watching & making these form and come alive never gets old. For me I think its the lack of repetitive-ness that keeps me interested. Its kind of similar to the old Extrovert/Introvert thing - you know, whatever gives you energy is what you are (me, I get most of my energy from solo time, so Im definitely an introvert.)... Some makers seem to thrive on repetition. Honestly, I am in absolute AWE at those who manage to bust out an incredible amount of pieces in extremely high hand-fabricated quality @bearandtheadelaide does this EXTREMELY well, and with such admirable integrity Me on the other hand, the repetitive tasks and processes are what seem to drag on and suck all of my energy. So I guess Ill never be one to roll out mass amounts of the same thing at once But thats ok. Its important to be at peace with your strengths and weaknesses. 01.01.2022 ROPE ON A BOAT I actually just Googled the sailing terminology for rope, and found out that there are heaps of different types of ropes on a sailboat. When a rope has a purpose, its called a line, and then each line has its own name. Shroud, Stay, Forestay, Backstay, Halyard, Downhaul, it goes oooooonnnn... omg, now I now what non-jewellers must think of all my jewellery terminology.... Why am I telling you this? Because these two rope rings were made for the lovely Libby who LIVES on a sailboat with her partner and baby boy, and is likely familiar with all of these terms for her new rings Remember that EPIC parti sapphire ring I made her a few months ago? 01.01.2022 Got the super serious look on my face here, but I've got 2 serious things to tell you... 1I'm going out of grid pattern for the first time in almost 3 years! It's taken a fair bit to work myself up to this, clearly I'm a creature of habit, plan, and order. Who would've thought? But you know what? I'm feeling adventurous (and simultaneously stuck in a bit of Instagram boredom, I know I'm not alone there) so I'm letting the order go for a while.... So easy and breezy, that's me 2Customs are now open again! That's right! After almost 4 months, I can now take on some new custom enquiries. I did send an email out to my very patient waitlist peeps last week, so whilst I am technically 'open' again, please know that there are limited spaces depending on how many jobs I'm working on at any given time. I have been working SO hard behind the scenes to set up a beautiful new email system which means I can put enquiry info, sketches, quotes, and all the things that are part of the custom journey into beautiful, easy to use forms to make the customers think I am really computer savvy and remark upon themselves "Gosh, I just love a swanky and attractive looking form!" If you've been patiently waiting too, or are curious to see how the process works, all the links are in the bio friend Image cred @stinknjim [Image description: Susan is central and sitting at her workbench in a maroon t-shirt and denim skirt, looking pensive with pursed lips.
