25.01.2022 *MUST-SEE BUDGET* As coronavirus affected nearly every aspect of our lives, the Morrison Government has tried to protect people's health and cushion the blow on our economy and jobs. We have boosted our health system and we have provided unprecedented support for our economy, for business, and to support people who lost their jobs. This spending was only possible because of sound financial management leading up to this point, and tonight we will be delivering the next instalment of our plan to maximise the strength of our economic and jobs recovery. From 6.30pm Queensland time tonight - tune in!

22.01.2022 *MORE MOBILE COVERAGE* The Australian Government is continuing to expand and improve mobile coverage across regional and remote Australia, with Round 5A of the Mobile Black Spot Program now open for applications. In Round 5A, we want to support new ways of delivering mobile services to locations that have traditionally been less economic for mobile network operators, as well as giving consumers a greater choice of providers to increase competition. More than 1,200 new mobile ...base stations have been funded under the first five rounds and over 880 of these base stations are now on air. To log an area for consideration, contact your mobile service provider who will then have to register an interest by December 16. For more information, visit: communications.gov.au/MBSP. 20.01.2022 *ROADS FOR THE NORTH* It was terrific to have Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport, Scott Buchholz, in Townsville today meeting Northern Mayors about the Roads Of Strategic Importance program. The Morrison Government understand how important it is for regional Queensland to have good roads that can carry freight and people safely. Tourism, agriculture and general commerce will be the big winners under this program. 13.01.2022 *BACKING OUR FARMERS* Since joining the Senate last year, I've been privileged to represent the interests of all Queenslanders, but particularly our primary producers who grow the world's best food and fibre. Whether it's bananas at Tully, tomatoes at Bowen, cane at Ingham, beef at Julia Creek, sheep at Tambo, wheat at Roma or coffee at Mareeba, we can be extremely proud of our farmers and the way they do it. Sadly, primary producers are under increasing attacks by activists ...who ignore the great improvements in sustainability and land management our farmers have achieved. We should thank farmers every day, but today especially we show our appreciation. 12.01.2022 *CQU SHARES VISION FOR STRONGER REGIONS* I was pleased to be in Cairns this morning to help announce a $76 million NAIF loan for Central Queensland University to enhance its digital capability so it can continue studying and recommending ideas for regional development. Importantly, the upgrade will attract more students, and research shows that people who study in the regions tend to stay in the regions. 11.01.2022 *DON’T MISS OUT* Anyone with an interest in agriculture and seasonal workers in the Mareeba district is warmly invited to meet LNP Candidate for Hill, Nick Cuda, Assistant Minister for Northern Australia Michelle Landry, and myself at a special forum on October 1. Registrations close today but don’t worry, you can still put your name down now. It will be great to see you there.

09.01.2022 *SUPERCHARGING REGIONAL AUSTRALIA* The Morrison-McCormack Government will inject $250 million into regional Australia, encouraging more Australians to travel and experience a home-grown holiday, boosting regional jobs and local economies. The package includes a $50 million Regional Tourism Recovery initiative to assist businesses in regions heavily reliant on international tourism, and $200 million for an additional round of the Building Better Regions Fund. Regional Queensland has suffered enormously through this pandemic and this is a great first step to securing a brighter future. It gives me great pride to be part of the most regions-focused Government we’ve ever had.

08.01.2022 *Q FEVER VACCINE TRIALS* Regional Australians especially those in livestock industries will benefit from a landmark agreement between the Australian Government and Seqirus to secure the nation’s Q Fever vaccine production. A new high-tech vaccine manufacturing facility will be developed in Melbourne to secure Australia’s long-term critical health products, including Q Fever, and antivenoms. The Q Fever bacterium can be carried by both domestic and wild animals and causes ...flu-like symptoms or, in more serious cases, can damage vital organs. This announcement follows recent investments by the Australian Government in trials to test a new Q Fever vaccine. AgForce Queensland Cattle Council of Australia Sheep Producers Australia See more

08.01.2022 *MINING OUTLOOK BRIGHT* A great turnout at this week’s Mining and Resources Forum in Townsville where Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Keith Pitt, reinforced the importance of having a strong, secure mining sector in regional Queensland. We also heard from Herbert MP, Phil Thompson and our five Townsville region candidates for the state elections. It’s terrific to get Ministers the calibre of Keith Pitt in our back yard, and I’m sure most of the room was relieve...d to hear the LNP at state and federal level is very much behind mining and the stable, good-paying jobs it provides. Not to mention royalties, which will be crucial as we climb out of coronavirus. Queensland Resources Council See more

05.01.2022 *MOVING LIVESTOCK MADE EASY* Graziers have welcomed the cutting of red tape by The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) to remove the requirement to include registration numbers from Class 3 Livestock Vehicle permits. Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport, Scott Buchholz, said the new rules come into place from December 1, 2020, following advocacy from the Australian Livestock and Rural Transport Association (ALRTA). It is common for farmers who have Cl...ass 3 permits to use a third-party operator to carry their livestock, but now farmers will only need the permit to reflect the kind of vehicle, not the specific registration. 05.01.2022 *LET'S RECOGNISE OUR VETERANS* To mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the Federal Government released a Commemorative Medallion and Certificate for all living veterans of that conflict. These tokens are a small but meaningful way to thank those who served during the largest global conflict of the 20th century. Almost one million Australians served during the Second World War and some 6000 living Second World War veterans have now applied out of about... 12,000 still alive today. This means there are veterans out there who are yet to apply, or have a family or friend do so on their behalf. One veteran who received a medallion this year was Fred Bainbridge (pictured) who is the last of five brothers who all served in the Second World War and returned. Inspired by his brothers, Fred lied about his age and was deployed to PNG to halt the Japanese advance until he was shot in the shoulder and sent home. There is still time to apply to receive the Commemorative Medallion and Certificate of Commemoration, or have a family or friend do so on a living veteran’s behalf. Apply online at www.dva.gov.au/medallion or by calling 1800 VETERAN (1800 838 372) during business hours. RSL Queensland See more

05.01.2022 So pleased to officially open the Atherton RSL last Saturday, built after a massive fundraising effort by veterans and members. The Federal Government contributed nearly $360,000 but a large part of the costs was raised by raffles, sausage sizzles and memorabilia sales. Regional RSLs are not just places for a terrific meal (thanks Dan and Krissie and your team) and cold beer, they are community hubs that allow towns to honour and support their military heroes. Congratulations to the Atherton RSL members for having the patience and determination to see this through, and thank you for inviting me to be a part of this special day. Atherton RSL Community Club

03.01.2022 *SAS MEDALS UPROAR* Calls to strip medals and unit citations from our fighting forces were premature. Australians bestow such honour on our armed services, and we have high expectations that our sworn defenders will uphold the finest traditions in combat and off the battlefield. People are rightly angry that those brave men who fought in Afghanistan have been judged before legal proceedings have concluded. It's pleasing to see that Prime Minister Scott Morrison has intervened... to stop unit citations and bravery medals being arbitrarily stripped. I've spoken to veterans who I thanked for their service, and I hope their faith is restored by this commonsense decision. See more

02.01.2022 *CELEBRATE OUR LAND CARE* People on the land and in our regions are doing great work to improve our environment but they don't get any credit. Instead we are bombarded with claims by multi-national green groups that Queensland is in an environmental crisis. The latest claim is that the Federal Government's attempt to streamline the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act will dismantle environmental protections but this is nothing close to the truth. https://www.queenslandcountrylife.com.au//environmental-/

01.01.2022 Those of us in Regional Queenslanders do a lot of driving - and this plan to dual lane the Bruce Highway from Cairns to Gympie will make a huge difference to safety and ease, for families, for tourists and for our hard working transport industry #letsgetqueenslandworkingagain

01.01.2022 *POST-COVID REBOUND* Figures released today by the ABS show that labour market conditions in Australia continued to recover in October, with employment increasing by 178,800 over the month, exceeding all market expectations. Full-time employment increased by 97,000 (or 1.1 per cent), the largest monthly increase on record, while part-time employment rose by 81,800 (or 2.0 per cent). Encouragingly, the effective unemployment rate fell from 9.3% to 7.4%.
