If you do not reveive the ballot paper by Friday 16th October, please call VEC local office for a replacement. The number of VEC Whitehorse office is 86191472. If you need my help, please call 0451016695.
24.01.2022 Today I would like to express my thanks to all of you - my team members and my volunteers. Some of you I even haven't met. Thank you for your wisdom, advice and plain hard work. Without your support and encouragement, I wouldn't have gone so far. So far, we have letterboxed 16,000 DL flyers, and made hundreds of phone calls to residents. Campaign signs are everywhere: the corner of Eley Road and Blackburn Road, Eley Road near the roundabout, Burwood Hwy, the corner of Benwerr...in Drive and Highbury Road, Canterbury Road near McDonalds. Two weeks ago, a resident volunteered to put my sign up at her front yard. My brochures/posters are distributed in the shops on Canterbury Road, Burwood Highway, Burwood One Shopping Centre, Brickworks Shopping Centre. When I introduce myself to residents, people tell me: "I know you. I've seen your sign somewhere." Yesterday afternoon, when I was doing letterdrops, I came across a lady in her driveway. "That's me." I said and pointed my photo on DL flyers. "I know. I voted for you." She replied. I would also like to voice my gratitude to the residents who voted for me. Thank you for believing in me. This afternoon, I received a text message from a resident of Eley Ward. "Hi Susannah, my name is XXX and I live in Eley Ward. I just wanted to let you know that I have voted for you. I did extensive research on the candidates and your position spoke most to me. Good luck for the election. If you have any of those lawn signs available, I'd happily pick on up and put it on my lawn. Thanks" For those who questioned and doubted me. I would like to say "Thank you" to you too. Because of you, I became a better me. See more
09.01.2022 I'M HERE TO TAKE A STAND AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE. A few days ago, I was asked questions about climate change and how Whitehorse Council can reduce carbon emmission by a resident in my ward. Following is my response. Dear XXX... Thank you for reaching out. I'm so glad to know that we have an environmentalist in our ward. After Boroondara Council failed to declare a climate emergency in June, I asked if Whitehorse Council should declare a climate emergency at Whitehorse Notice Board, a Facebook group. Sadly, I was criticised by a group of people for being political. But I was not disheartened. If a vote is called right now, I will still vote for Whitehorse declaring a climate Emergency. But I will not just stop there. I will campaign hard and to provide education to our community. To achieve change in Whitehorse I believe a well-informed community led by committed leadership is the best way. The good thing about declaring a climate emergency is to help raise community awareness of climate change. Plus, Council can put climate change as top priority. There are lots of ways Whitehorse council can reduce carbon emission. To show leadership, Council itself should reduce carbon footprint by installing rooftop solar panels, LED lightings at Council amenities, using green energy, switching to electrical vehicles. In addition, Council should be an advocate and urge state and federal governments to do more to reduce carbon emission. My vision for Whitehorse is to develop the economy in a greener way. I call it sustainable prosperity. People think we have to choose either economic development or reducing carbon emission. That's a myth. Actually, we don't have to choose. We can have both. Instead of exporting coal, we can export hydrogen. I hope I have answered all your questions. Best Regards, Susannah Su
06.01.2022 Keep rates low and provide continuous support to our community and business to combat Covid-19. This pandemic has dispersed and disconnected us as a nation, as a community and as individuals. Social isolation has put a halt to what we once viewed as normal. It must not be underestimated that we are all to some extent impacted not only financially, socially, emotionally and mentally as a result of the social isolation regulations which are currently in place to ensure our heal...th, safety and well-being in the long term. It's important we adhere to these strict measures even though it may seem they are detriment to our normal way of life. Our compliance will ensure we are all in this together and we will come out of it together. As a candidate for this year's council election I'm empathetic to the circumstances we are currently facing. I have taken all these factors into consideration when defining policies to ensure our community transitions effectively and functionally beyond this pandemic. Firstly, I urge Council to maintain rates low. Due to the restriction order, many community members working in catering and tourism have lost their jobs, and some businesses in these industries have ceased operations. Even if they have not yet closed, they are struggling. Although the federal government's "Job Keeper" and "Job Seeker" are now supporting them, these subsidies will cease by March next year. It is difficult for the economy to return to the level before the pandemic in a short period of time. Most likely, the unemployment rate will rise and more residents will lose their jobs. The biggest help that the local government can provide to the community is to keep rates low. Secondly, Council should help create more employment opportunities. Creating jobs is mainly an issue of the federal and state governments, but Council can still do something. For example, one of the major projects which have been planned and approved in Whitehorse Council is the redevelopment of Box Hill Central. Council may negotiate with the developer to start construction sooner. The developer should be required to use local (not overseas) workers to give more job opportunities to local community. Thirdly, Council should provide assistance to restore residents' mental health. Victorians have been locked down for seven months. Although it is very effective in suppressing the virus, it definitely has a negative impact on mental health. To overcome the isolation and to reconnect each other, Council should organize more small sized regular gatherings. People who come over for the gatherings can talk and listen to each other, and make friends so that our community can reach out and build more connections. See more
