15.01.2022 My drawing and steps to my #watercolour painting of the Stour Valley from the Constable #watercolour painting of 1805. Working wet on dry #watercolour paper, using a limited palette of four colours, phylo blue, sap green, violet and Australian red/gold, the first and palest #watercolour washes were floated on to establish the mood of the painting. When the first #watercolour washes were dry, the mid tones were added as a glaze over the first washes. Finally the dark tones were added to bring out the light in the painting.

15.01.2022 This photo of a stone cottage in the Luberon, France is the inspiration for today’s #watercolour painting. The first step is to draw the cottage, then add the first washes, Naples yellow, with highlights of golden yellow in the stone of the building and sap green for the foliage. Keeping the white paper for the areas of strongest light. Next add the mid tones phylo blue and violet to add texture to the stonework and for shadows. Use strong darks to add detail to the painting and help to bring out the light. Finally, glaze over the areas in shadow with a warm glowing pink.
