17.01.2022 Regional communities will be among the key beneficiaries of a new $5.3 million Morrison Government funding round to protect and preserve Australia’s national and world heritage sites, promote tourism and deliver much needed economic stimulus for COVID impacted communities. The latest round of the Australian Heritage Funding Grants Program opened on 9 November 2020 and places a particular focus on conserving privately-owned national heritage places, many of which have faced significant visitor downturn and temporary closure during the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications for the 2020-21 grants round will close on 7 January 2021. To find out more and apply, visit: https://www.business.gov.au/assi/australian-heritage-grants

15.01.2022 It’s going to be hot right across Farrer this weekend hitting 42 degrees in Griffith and Moama, 43 in Deniliquin and 44 degrees in Wentworth! Corowa isn’t going to be much cooler but Corowa Golf Club’s fabulous new shade and viewing area* will be a great place sit and cool down after a round, or to just pop in for a drink overlooking the Murray River. *supported with funding from the Australian Government.

10.01.2022 Local travel agents were some of the first to contact me back in March their situation is unique compared to other businesses; when processing refunds, travel agents were literally handing back income from work that they had already done, sometimes two years ago. My thanks to Simon Birmingham for listening to the industry’s difficulties, announcing a $128 million package today with one off ‘recovery’ payments of between $1500-$100,000. 06.01.2022 In NAIDOC week, as part of our national celebration of Aboriginal history, culture and achievements, I thought I would share one of the amazing programs involving Indigenous rangers. In a new bid to protect endangered marine turtles in Queensland, Indigenous land and sea rangers are working with local conservation groups to trap and cull predators like foxes and feral pigs, safeguarding the turtle nests to ensure survival rates. From Booderee to Cape York, this is just one example of the amazing work Indigenous ranges do on country every day.

01.01.2022 Road safety and traffic congestion at the intersection of Burley Griffith Way and Irrigation Way has been a key community concern for some time, so this weekend’s completion of a $14.8 million upgrade is a huge local benefit. This work has led to economic activity in an otherwise challenging year with 32 local businesses and 65 local construction workers engaging their trades on the upgrade, and those from out of town providing a boost for local accommodation providers and shops. With funding provided through the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program and the NSW government, this upgrade is another great example of the two levels of government working together to solve local problems.

01.01.2022 This morning I had the pleasure of joining food charity OzHarvest to see first-hand the wonderful work they do to feed those in need and reduce the number of food going to landfill. Some fast facts: Food waste costs the Australian economy $20 billion each year 9,000 Olympic sized swimming pools of food goes to landfill every year. Woolworths
