25.01.2022 Goals - A target to aspire to, which adds points towards the final result Vision - the infinite dream, desire, result that is made up of all those successfully attained goals, packaged together. Unlike a game, there's no end point though. Like living a truly healthy, sustainable & happy life. It's not a goal. It's a journey. A vision.... Right now, I'm slightly overweight, stressed, unsettled, weaker than I'd like, in pain & all around not the happiest person in the world. But I'm still on my journey. This will pass. I'm STILL now stronger, healthier, happier than i was 10 years ago, so I'm still winning. I'm progressing. That's all we need to focus on. The small progressions. Not the small setbacks. 25.01.2022 The easiest way to succeed is to start doing and stop telling yourself that you can't do. The negative crap we tell ourselves, while on a journey of self justification for not getting what we want, only holds us tighter within the jail of limited success. It's like a glass cage of emotion but for your success.... So pick something today that you'll tell yourself you've succeeded in. Failure is what you get when you don't even try. 22.01.2022 Been wanting one of these added to the kit for some time. Now when those clients who always say "haven't had the time"; to foam roll, trigger point release or self fascial release, I can hit their tight muscles with some hydra percussive massage therapy. My old Osteopath used this style of pin point release work on my thoracic before any other part of treatment.... Saved him 10 minutes of massage or dry needling. Already feeling the difference in my own neck, traps, SCM, levator scap & rhomboids. Slept like a baby! What's your experience with this style of treatment? Would you use it? Have you? 16.01.2022 Start them early Exposing kids to the smells & colourful sight of fresh healthy home made food from as early as they can see, will only help reinforcement of interest in good food as they grow. Covid 19 showed us some very troubling truths about our ability as a country, to be able to cook for ourselves. Take away and pre made meal delivery services boomed. We're talking hundreds of millions in the 8-10 weeks we were home. It's not stopping there.... We don't teach home economics anymore, kids learn from a young age that everything comes from a packet. Inability hidden behind #convenience . it's too difficult, we don't have enough time or its just too hard to create our meals instead of microwaving them. But we buy into shows like @masterchefau & channels like the @foodnetwork We have the will & interest to watch but why are we still not stepping over to the cooking side? The amount of advertising during MasterChef that drives viewers to pre made meal companies is astounding. If I was @colessupermarkets you'd think it should all be about driving consumers into the store, to learn how to create meals. Bring back the meet the maker and in stores cooking demonstrations like I was doing at the @floreatforum My generation are on track to beat the #babyboomer record of 55% over 50 obese!! What hope do our kids have? All my home made foods have little to no sugar. Even the poached pears. You can start by baking a cake, following a recipe BUT cut the sugar content by 3/4 - I like to substitute for almond meal - it increases the protein, moisture and fibre. Make a salad, use fresh veg - raw - zucchini, Bok Choy. Carrots and herbs. Prep - the most important habit of all. Spend 30-45 minutes to cut some veg or bake a few breakfast tarts, make a banana bread. I'm not saying don't go out, we need to support our Hospitality industry and small businesses, but our kids deserve better than a muffin or banana bread that contains 4 tablespoons of sugar. 15.01.2022 Did you know, that looking at the ocean has been proven to reduce stress levels? Simply sitting for 5 minutes, watching the waves roll in, feeling your breathing as you open your ribs & exhale away all the negatively charged air from deep within, smelling the salt, the seaweed, the freshness of clean air while we listen to the soft crackle or harsh crash of each wave, whisked away by that breeze or wind while you consider........ Nothing..... If you can focus on those senses, allow your mind to go blank and simply just be present with your breath, you'll lower your cortisol, reducing your stress and add years to your life. 11.01.2022 Taking responsibility for yourself is a two way street. We love it when we're on top of the world, everything we are and have is the result of all of our hard work. Our abs because we ate right, we trained and had discipline. We saved our money on going out so we could afford to have all the finer things in life. We look at ourselves in the mirror, and take ownership. I did this. I'm awesome. I'm the best. But when things are not going right, most of us are quick to deflect. ...It's someone else's fault. It's not my doing. I'm just a helpless bystander in my life now. Without control. It's in this mindset that we lose sight of all the great that we've done, we lose sight of what it is, to be at that happy place - where everything positive was our success - now everything negative is everyone else's fault. If you're going to claim all the good & positive in your life as your own successes, then you need to accept that the opposite is your doing also. Nobody makes you work those hours, it's a choice. Nobody forces you to save that money, eat those greens, walk instead of driving or go to bed at 2am instead of 10pm. They're your choices. All those choices, lead to outcomes. When there's success, because you've made the right choices time after time & there's reward at the end, sure as shit you deserve that reward. When you make those bad choices that end up in failures and set backs, guess what? That's on you too. Don't hide behind someone else. When you do, that's just another choice pulling you further away from where you want to go. Some people see the goal, the destination, their happy place & only focus on getting to that point. Others will only see the obstacles in their way and make the excuses - so the pattern continues on. It takes more strength to take ownership, than to shift blame - it's in this space of ownership that you'll grow.

11.01.2022 Everything has a place. My place, is in a gym or classroom, any setting within which I can share experiences, knowledge and skills. The human body and it's functional movements all have their place. Pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, squatting, jumping, throwing, running, hanging and climbing are all the basic movement patterns of the body that we've done for tens of thousands of years. The reasons behind training my clients in these areas, without fan fare, has its place ...- I believe we (as trainers) have an obligation to help improve the performance & quality of life of those that enter our orbit - "improving the human condition" is and should be at the core of every decent trainers motivation I do what I do because I've found my place, at the ripe old age of 41, with Amara in my arms, on a dreary Sunday morning. While Putting together programs for entrants that begin their 28 day challenge next week I realise I'm doing what I do for her future, not for money or for fame or bragging rights, ego or lack of other options. I want her future to be a better. I don't want her to grow up in a world where 2/3 of the population is considered obese. Where 70 -100 amputations take place each week because of avoidable diabetes & endocrine system complications. Where the cost to the healthcare system in dealing with preventable chronic disease's ($27billion) is more than the cost to provide free tertiary education to every student in Australia. She'll need to find her place as she grows, and I'll make sure she's ready for the opportunities that'll arise - mentally & physically. 08.01.2022 Have you seen what I'm putting up for June?

07.01.2022 Mum's & Dad's- Why does your back hurt in the morning ?? New student Madi seeking a return to doing what she loves - lacrosse.. Needing power, speed & midline derived energy transfer aren't enough, she'll need stability. First trick is to see where she's shifting her weight to, then I can fix it. Retraining her movement patterns to get her back to doing what she loves AND having better control over her movement FOR LIFE... Just like when us parents pick up the kids and move them from point A to point B. Even being slightly anterior dominant means we'll stop slower, turn with less efficiency & run a higher risk of injuries. Add to that, the hit the CNS takes everytime it's required to calm the nerves from every near miss it feels it's avoided in doing so. How does that effect you at home, picking up the kids? Simply, everytime you do so, pushing your weight onto your toes, you're shifting your centre of mass forward, adding tension to your anterior(front) chain muscles. Your posterior (back) chain muscles would normally sense this and help support you, to stay upright, with strength & confidence. But when you're not conditioned to sense this & activate, before the action of picking up all 13kg of littleTimmy, when your squat power is going through your toes, you're transferring all that weight into your quads, instead of the glutes, leaving your lower back exposed to that pain you're now feeling. Do that for long enough, it'll become chronic. You'll live with it long after little Timmy is in his teens (I hear thats where both mental & physical stress peaks!) So what can you do? 07.01.2022 A little Sang Choi Wow number from the freezer. Hoisin & fermented garlic honey pork shoulder, baby corn, sticky caramel pepper noodles & a whole truck load of umame!! The mouth feel, it was like being on a roller coaster of flavours, taking it to a whole 'nother level #masterchef ... 500g sticky Noodles Soak egg noodles in hot water and fresh ginger for 5 minutes. In a medium saucepan -30 ml fish sauce -50 ml soy sauce -1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked pepper - 20 ml rice wine vinegar - 50 ml hot water - 4 tablespoons brown sugar - 1 tablespoon fresh ginger Add noodles to saucepan, over medium heat and simmer until liquids are reduced and noodles are coated in that soy sugar caramel (watch it doesn't burn) toss fresh ginger through and serve. Fueling the system right, is where the change will begin. Getting back to basics. Fresh food cooked with minimal stuffing around. ... Garam Masala roasted cauliflower, sunflower seeds, olive oil. Easy. Add some aioli or tahini or labne. 04.01.2022 It's the pointy end of the term where students need confidence before their practical assessments. It's all too common to hear stories of students coming out of fitness courses, without their trainers ever actually exposing them to real industry experiences, programs & education. Much like when I studied, what was in the course content wouldn't have prepared me for the industry apart from some basic anatomy and programming. Luckily my trainer back then did all he could to inc...lude as much extra value as he could. The rest I've learnt on the job, and every day I realise the more I learn the less I know. 5 years in and I've barely scratched the surface. In an industry filled with tick & flick sign offs, I've begun EVERY SINGLE TERM since training students with ALG with a simple, brief, rev up: 1) There's no "participation" awards. You earn your pass and my signature. 2) There's no exercise "too hard". You just need to find the regression or version that works for you & your client 3) Know why. Every movement has a purpose, exercises for exercises sake are half the problem with the industry. It's why so many people don't find value in many PT's, they're why so many people live in pain & with imbalances. 4) You'll get out what you're willing to put in!! My GoodLife crew are always up for a challenge, so today I dusted off my VA30 program & made them sweat! Volume for endurance (between 70-100 reps of EACH base exercise ) Movements through every plane to ensure balance & improve proprioception. A base to reinforce corrective movement patterns. And no rest for 30 minutes!! They loved it. Everyone who has tested the program loves it. If you think this is the sort of thing for you, I'll be launching classes in October in Osborne Park. 02.01.2022 From the gym to the classroom. There's no greater satisfaction as a trainer than seeing simplicity done right. Students this week were nailing the brief in all areas other than creating neural plasticity - challenging the brain to operate and move the body without lag. "How often do you do these kinds of exercise with your clients"?? Every.... Single. Session. Students were surprised, until they've experienced for themselves the mental adaptation that occurs from just a few sets of bird dogs. Improved focus. Improved agility & reaction times. This is what the industry and your body needs more of.
