11.05.2022 Loving that nice couple of hours afternoon supplementary sunshine.

13.04.2022 This Goniopora has been captive grown in Shane’s old tank for around 5 years prior to coming up to Cairns to be grown at the farm here. Its always been this two tone pink and blue type colouration that is completely random in what ratio of colour mixing happens as it grows. We can’t wait to drop this on your guys when its done cooking and we have enough to go around.

04.04.2022 A photographic stage by stage showing one of the ways we propagate Acanthastrea pachysepta (commonly and incorrectly called Lobophyllia). The corals are obviously different pieces and not a progressive growth series of the same original frag, but the methodology is the same. This method involves removing the buds that form on the side of the main animal. These buds can either grow up to be in your aquarium or we can hold them back as a mother to produce more buds or simply be fragged in 1/2 or in 1/4 segments if it doesn’t produce a bud. #sustainablereefs #coralessentials #coralfarm #reeftank #allmymoneygoestocoral

25.01.2022 The new Acro and Monti only system is well underway. The algae cycle looking horrid as usual

24.01.2022 You’re all being spoiled today! It’s been a long time off the list but we are glad to say that BLUE LIGHTNING STAG (A. horrida) is back on the list! Oh so juicy

22.01.2022 Coral of the day! Here at SR we have few types of Leptoseris growing... Including this new one that’s a combination of orange, yellow/gold & green. These corals are great low light space fillers but they make incredible looking feature colonies if you let them run where they want. ... We bet there’s a few types we still need to Aquire for the farm though, show us your favourites below.

21.01.2022 Happy hump day everyone! Some juicy goodness to start your day Which one is your favourite?

21.01.2022 Plenty of tank bred turbos available again if you’d like a bulk amount (wholesale enquires only).

20.01.2022 Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! The Team at Sustainable Reefs would like to thank everyone for their support over the last crazy year... the time has come again to be with friends & family if you’re able to and bring in a new year. 2020 has brought us an opportunity to do some upgrades to the facility so we can grow even more corals than before and have the capacity to test even more new products for Coral Essentials. So in 2021 we hope to show you these upgrades and brin...g you even more home grown 100% sustainable corals for your reef. Thanks for the year and let’s make 2021 full of sustainably grown, vibrant & colourful corals! Happy Reefing from the Sustainable Reefs team.

18.01.2022 Sump is in place. Now for hard plumbing.

17.01.2022 Some interesting aquacultured stuff heading to A1 Aquarium World for FRG SHO!

16.01.2022 The never ending battle with the calcium thief!

15.01.2022 Favourite Frags! Here’s 3 favourites from the whole facility at the moment. The chalice frag has since gone to a store in Sydney, it was tough to let it go, just a fantastic shape and colour. ... The second one is a red Cynarina frag, you can see the tallest part was the original piece of coral and the new lower section is just encrusting the plug beautifully. The third is a random frag that Christian found in the system that doesn’t appear to have a mother colony any longer... it’s developed some nice colours and become a favourite to watch and see what coral it might belong to. What are your current favourite frags?

15.01.2022 Single and double septa orange hammer frags are a pleasure to watch grow. They are healed, feeding and growing nicely with new heads (buds) forming at the base. Around 2 months from fragging to now.

10.01.2022 Hard to believe that only 6 months ago these were the size of a pin head.

09.01.2022 To make up for no coral of the day yesterday... We offer you coral porn in its most pure form! Behold the red Acropora granulosa! ... Which organ or limb would give up for it?

08.01.2022 Something hard, something with a branching shape, something that doesn’t just encrust & something that’s NOT Acropora.... Porites cylindrica. Uncommonly kept for what reason? We don’t know but maybe it might make its way into your reef after it gets a little highlight here.

05.01.2022 Another 5 meters of grow space about to get wet and wild.

05.01.2022 Here’s a weird one... This Cynarina seems to have an air bubble trapped inside every day. This has been the case for months. The weird part is that I have removed the bubble almost every day only to have it come back the next day. Methods of removal include using a scalpel to slice the pocket open underwater and see the bubble/s escape, a day or two later the slice heals and the bubble is back. ... I’ve used a hypodermic needle underwater and seen the bubbles escape through the needle hub (similar to how you’d needle the swim bladder of a fish). I’ve also taken the coral out of the water and done similar procedures, and tried to inspect the skeleton as best can be done without too much disturbance of the coral tissue. There are micro bubbles in the water but not many of them, and besides I don’t think they can be absorbed by this coral and not others. The bubble always forms in the exact same point/area. The coral markings are like a fingerprint and the bubble site never changes. So this leaves me to wonder, is there an organism that produces gas that may be living in the skeleton? Has anyone had this occur? *video in comments*

04.01.2022 If you want to squeeze an extra 100L or so in your IBC, just get a good strong petrol pump to fill it and watch TikTok while you wait for the IBC to over expand and stretch. Follow us for more tips and tricks.

04.01.2022 New Acro for the stocklist... does anyone want to give it a fun name? Unsure of the species because it’s now about 4th or 5th generation and doesn’t exactly resemble anything these days. Frag pic under 50/50 and colour balanced (blue reduced). Mother colony under 10k halide.

03.01.2022 Coral of the day! Dragon soul Favia This one has been around the hobby for such a long time it would be surprising if you hadn’t seen one before. But just like bread and butter, it’s one of those corals that stands the test of time. The colours on them are always so vivid. ... Great in all areas of the aquarium since they are tolerant of different lighting and flow conditions but as always you’ll see the best in a coral with great water chemistry. Who else loves Favia and other corals similar to this?

03.01.2022 These Bernardpora are straight fire!

03.01.2022 These Montipora danae have us really excited! they just keep on getting better! There is a type of yellow that’s incredibly hard to capture, but under blue LED it just pops like nothing else and the frag in the second pic has a beautiful golden edge and pink to almost red base. They are still cooking away here so don’t get too excited for release yet... or maybe we should let a few go early

02.01.2022 Growth rings on this Acanthophyllia deshayesiana are visible when a cross section cut is made for fragging the solitary polyp.

02.01.2022 Its always a good day when one your fungia factories drops off the next one. This one is such a nice aqua marine colour!
