25.01.2022 SWIMMING ISNT ALWAYS EASY| We understand that swimming lessons are not always a straight line, everyone progresses, differently, this is a story of one of our young swimmers journey from baby classes to pre-school. Indiana started attended swimming lessons from 6 months of age. However at one she became difficult when attending lessons so we we decided it would be best to take a break & continue when she was older. We continued teaching her how to swim just without formal l...essons. At the start of 2019 we had a pool installed at home, Indiana became anxious when entering the pool so we decided it was time to enrol her back into classes. She commenced as a 3 year old in Angelfish with Harmony and loved the class. She was now on her own in the water and enjoyed interacting with Harmony and the other kids. The amount of progress she made in a small time was amazing. One day when Indiana and I entered the pool area at home, we were preparing to go into the water. Indiana didnt realize that she was not wearing her flotation device and dived into the deep end. I was about to jump in and save her when all of a sudden Indiana swam to the step and got herself out. As scary as those few seconds were I was so proud of her and she was so proud of herself. It reminded us both about the importance of swim lessons and how much progress she has made within a year. We are so proud of you Indiana, & we cant wait to see you back when Swim School returns on July 20.

20.01.2022 OVER COMING NERVES TO BECOME WATER SAFE | Kian (6), and twins Micah and Zeyar (4) are active and energetic brothers who love the water. At the beginning of last year the boys had quite a traumatic accident at a dam in the South West. The family were picnicking at a busy dam when, while Dad was helping Zeyar and a cousin set up a fishing line on shore, Kian and Micah got themselves into deeper water and both almost drowned. Micah needed an Ambulance ride and hospital attention... for the rest of the day after not being able to breathe and swallowing a lot of water. All three boys were enrolled into Swan Active swimming lessons immediately after the incident. Micah was understandably nervous about getting in the water and putting his head under. However today we have seen all three boys develop their confidence and swimming skills over the past year. The boys enjoy their lessons with their teachers and will continue to learn how to swim and be safe around water. A Big Thank You to the Hayter family for letting us share their story. We are so happy to see how confident the boys are now in the water.

18.01.2022 KEEP ON TRACK OVER WINTER| Believe it or not some of us find it a little harder to get out of bed and get into the pool in winter. To encourage and reward those who do we have created a keep on track annual winter challenge. Where participants record their laps with the aim of making the distance equivalent of Perth to Broome. Its not to late to join, everyone is welcome and all you need to do is swim or walk laps in the pool and record them on pool deck. If you need more encouragement to join, everyone who participates is invited to the Keep on Track breakfast .

17.01.2022 VALS 5 YEARS | Inspiration to begin his journey came from his grandchildren I wanted to set an example to them. My kids were always in swimming lessons however my wife and I couldnt swim so its something Ive always wanted to do. I have a boat and go fishing, so I have also done it for safety on the boat. During his swim school journey he has worked on his skills under the guidance of Tom, Jeannie, Linda, Chloe & Lachie. When he began lessons, Val was unable to float ...or swim, he can now swim most strokes and can even complete a distance swim. Val makes use of his swim school membership attending on non-lesson days, now that he is recently retired. Learning to swim has given an extension to my life, given me security and confidence when I am out boating, I have absolutely no regrets, I love coming swimming. Nice Work Val, we hope your story can inspire others, as it really is never too late to learn t swim.

13.01.2022 WATER SAFETY WEEK RECAP| Last week we focused on water safety and you may wonder why? Being in Australia, we are very blessed with beautiful beaches and water bodies to enjoy all around the country and for some, in our own backyards too. For this reason, we cannot emphasize enough how important it is to be safe around water. We, at Swan Active, are passionate about water safety and believe that it is an important skill to have regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or abili...ties. All our swimming classes during water safety week focused on learning how to hop into a pool safely, signalling for help while keeping a float and being able to identify someone who needs help. Education on water safety does not stop as you get older, it broadens your ability to learn and help. Having this opportunity to involve our whole swim school from baby classes to preschool, school age and adult’s means everyone is gaining vital water safety skills that could one day save a life.

12.01.2022 THE YEAR THAT WAS 2020 | We made it.. looking back at the year we realised maybe it wasn't all bad- right? Through the crazy rollercoaster ride of 2020 we saw the full closure , launch of Swan Active TV, dances on TikTok, learnt members were waaaay better than us at 'Words with Friends',painted rainbows , conquered the swan walking challenge , got excited to re-open, got disappointed that we were only partly opening , updated COVID safe plans 100 times, with some... swimming, fitness & sports sprinkled throughout In the moments of up and downs, we were able to come together as a community and share some memorable experiences. If you have had any highlights in 2020 lets us know in the comments below. Lets stumble into 2021 looking on the bright side.

12.01.2022 MEET SURFER ROCKWELL| Rockwell loves swimming lessons and is a real water baby who loves having his face in water. Rockwell has no fear, he is drawn to all water bodies and particularly likes being in deeper water. Unfortunately he has no understanding or awareness of the dangers associated with depth. Rockwell learns best through repetition and prompting,so his instructor Natasha is currently focusing on taking breaths and blowing bubbles. Rockwell is learning to sta...rt moving forward on his front and then roll over onto his back for a breath then roll back onto his front to continue moving forward. Check out Rockwell having fun in the surf with Ocean Heroes. This is a charity set up by local West Australian surfers that aims to enhance the lives of those living with autism through active involvement in surfing. Thank you to Rockwell and his family for letting us share his story. We are so proud to see his progress

12.01.2022 SASHAS STORY| Sasha joined the Swan Active family in February of this year immediately bonding with her instructor Natasha. You wouldnt know it watching Sasha in the water but she has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Though there are many benefits for Sasha to work with a physio in the water, she enjoys being part of classes. Classes allow Sasha the ability to engage in a community setting rather than attending the pool in a medical/therapy context. During our Covid suspension period Sasha spent her time practicing in her bath tub at home, not getting out until she has blown her bubbles. As soon as we reopened Sasha was asking her mum to return to swimming lessons. Sasha is always eager to learn and develop her skills, watching Sashas face light up in her lessons fills her teachers full of pride.

06.01.2022 EXERCISE FOR MENTAL HEALTH| Something we dont often talk about is how much exercise can help our mental health, for some even more than others.
