Check out sisters Angel and Ekam completing an example of a water safety sequence Older sister Angel is demonstrating a safe entry via sliding in and taking an aid with her to rescue her sister Ekam. 24.01.2022 PARALYMPIC MEDALIST| This month it has been 20 years since our very own Stacey won the Bronze medal for the 100m Breast Stroke at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. Stacey competed in multiple swimming events and managed to claim her spot on the podium. Following the Sydney Paralympics, Stacey went on to win Bronze again at the Argentinian World Championships in 2002 and also competed in the 2004 Paralympics at Athens, Greece.... Stacey started swimming when she was a baby as a form of therapy after she was diagnosed with Congenital Cerebellar Hypoplasia. After many years of swimming and other forms of therapy, Stacey was able to walk at the age of 10. It wasn't long before Stacey developed a passion for swimming and soon started training with the Swan Hills Swimming Club in our very own 25m pool. She started getting serious about her swimming and soon started training twice a day, six times a week. Stacey also became a lifeguard here before hanging up her goggles at the age of 24. She now is a wonderful employee in our creche . What a story , we are so are so proud of you Stacey

24.01.2022 SWIMMING LESSONS ARE BACK| We are so excited to welcome our swim school students back from today, especially these two superstar twins- Harrison and Charlie! Their mum shared their story with us: Harrison and Charlie have been completing swimming lessons at Swan Active Midland for a little over a year and are progressing really well. They love swimming and they love all of the instructors that they have met so far. ... Their journey is a little different than most because the boys have Williams Syndrome. This is caused by a deletion of genes on the 7th chromosome which can contribute to, among other things, some learning and development delays. They are two of the brightest, happiest kids you could ever meet! The boys started off in group lessons, which they absolutely loved however it was realised by everyone that the boys were not always aware of risk. They have absolutely no fear of the water, which is great but also a little scary. They dont see that walking straight into the deep end is not the best idea for kids who cannot swim yet. So, understanding how vital it is that the boys can follow instruction and have the basics of swimming in their tool kit, we got them into private lessons, with Jemima and Mel. The boys love Jemima and Mel! They have really tried to get to know the boys and understand them and have a really nice relationship with them. Watching the boys progression in their swimming skills, due to the private lessons, has been amazing. I think without the immediate distraction of watching what other children are doing has really helped with their learning. They have now progressed to a semi-private lesson, where Jemima will teach both boys on her own and eventually we will be able to get the boys back into group lessons. Swimming is a vital skill (which we all know) but watching the boys learn something, that is perhaps a little harder for them, in such a supportive environment is amazing. The team at Swan Active always go above and beyond to help us, the instructors always fuss over the boys and it is just a really positive experience every Saturday. Thank you for sharing your story, we love having you here at Swan Active!

20.01.2022 WHAT HAS ONLINE FITNESS GOT TO DO WITH IT?| During the shut down of 2020, Your Swan Active team, got creative to try and inspire as many people as possible to stay active during lock down. We are the first to admit we are not experts in the online world. However we played online games, blogged, created virtual challenges, and joined the new worlds of TikTok and Youtube. Although this wasnt for everyone, we are so proud to hear stories from members who participated with u...s online. Here is one of our pool members Glenys talking about her experiences. Glenys has being using the pool for 10 years, and although fitness is her priority the fringe benefits of making friends and having a chat keeps her motivated. Although the new restrictions have been a pain and the technology a challenge Glenys has been able to conquer all this & is back in the pool. I enjoyed participating in the online Swan Walking Challenge as found it an excellent incentive to put on the walking shoes each day and tramp the pavement and/or the bush tracks. It became an obsession and I would feel guilty if for a moment I contemplated giving it a miss. For myself the Seniors YouTube exercise programs were fun and it was amazing how many presentations there were across the board something for everyone. Mind you, perhaps I should send the City of Swan the bill for the new Smart TV I needed to purchase to drag me into new (to me) technology!!!! The programs certainly were a shining light as one by one all my normal activities came to a grinding halt. Thank you to Glenys & to everyone who has provided feedback over the last few weeks, it really does make the team feel proud

Being able to be a part of others healing journey is very rewarding. 19.01.2022 MEET NAOMI| Naomi is a married twenty-eight year-old mother with three kids. She has been a regular member at Swan Active since 2018, facing both mental and physical challenges along the way. Naomi has committed herself to improving her quality of life through a balanced diet, exercise regime and lifestyle, and we are proud to be able to provide her with resources to smash her goals. After Naomi’s third child, she was sitting at 114 kilograms through a rollercoaster of progr...ess and plateaus. I tried many methods to lose weight, but I couldn’t find anything sustainable she said. In 2018, Naomi took the plunge and committed to improve, creating an Instagram account dedicated to her journey. I deleted the apps on my phone that were consuming too much time, and joined Swan Active with a gym membership Naomi stated. This was the start of her exciting journey. When Naomi joined Swan Active, she was assessed by one of our friendly staff. We provided her with measurements and an extensive exercise program aligned with helping her achieve her personal goals. She is in regular contact with our team and is assessed every 2 months to track her progression. Each assessment, we discussed the goals that we were aiming to achieve by the next session. And I say we, because it feels like a team effort. I felt like my trainer wanted me to succeed and was always helping me to achieve my goals She said. During the Covid-19 lockdown, Naomi adapted to the home workout life, but found it wasn’t sustainable long term. She struggled to stay motivated and accountable for her personal goals. She developed a new way of thinking about achieving these goals. For me, exercise is not only about the calories burned, but the mental and social aspect of it. I need the social side of the gym, the support and accountability Swan Active provides. Let's not forget the crèche; even the ladies in the crèche give me huge support on seeing me achieve my goals she said. Naomi is now back in the gym with more drive than ever and crushing her goals. She is sitting at 80 kilograms, and continuing to improve. Naomi said It has been nice to see members and staff again while meeting new people. It will be great when more people return and I start to see some of the regular faces from pre-lockdown. Naomi’s efforts a more than commendable, and really speak volumes of the Swan Active culture and services we provide. Thank you for sharing your story Naomi, we love having you a part of our family

18.01.2022 WINNER WINNER| Back in May members and the local community had the opportunity to have their say on the redevelopment of Swan Active Midland. The refurbishment aims to improve the functionality, accessibility, operation and safety of the facility, with construction proposed to commence in 2021. Jen is the lucky winner of the $200 voucher to spend at a local business and she chose a $100 Mago Coffee voucher and a $100 All Aboard Seafoods voucher. ... Jen used to use the pool regularly as she had 2 knee replacements and suffered from back pain. However she started to find it difficult to get to the walking lane due the pool layout requiring her to use the steps or walk across lessons and under pool ropes. This was not ideal for Jen so she has stopped attending. When she discovered she was able to have her say in the redevelopment of Swan Active she jumped at the opportunity. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback, and Jen we hope you enjoy your seafood & coffee.

Along with encouragement from her late teacher Coral and following a 2-year formal certification, her teaching journey began and is still going strong today. From covering a couple of classes at Swan Aquatic (Active) in 2012 to many... years later teaching at a full-time capacity, each class, each lesson has been a great learning curve, both on and off the mat. She loves the big family environment at Swan Active and the way that staff and members have been a great support through the amazing and at times very difficult journey of life. Yoga is Jody’s grounding force one that she will share with anyone that is keen to listen, learn and experience but at times there is nothing more exhilarating than jumping on her 883 Harley Davidson! So, if you are too busy to get to a yoga class with Jody then she says you should be doing it twice as often!

13.01.2022 WATCH AROUND WATER| Did you know that children under 5 are required to wear 'under 5' yellow wrist bands when swimming at our centre? The purpose of the wrist bands is to remind parents/guardians to be within arms reach at all times. Even though lifeguards are on duty at public pools, parents still have a crucial role to play in the supervision of children while visiting these facilities. It’s not about shifting responsibility, it’s about having both parents and lifeguards ...working together to keep children safe. Parents supervise, lifeguards save lives This is a friendly reminder for all families this summer, around all public and backyard pools, beaches, rivers and bath tubs. Keep safe everyone

13.01.2022 MEET MEMBER CHARMAINE| I started my journey about 10 years ago when I injured my back. I started in the pool as part of my rehabilitation. It has improved my lifestyle and has become part of my pain managements. Ive gained knowledge in understanding of how my body moves, modifying how I do things and my limitations in what I can and cant do. At first the physical side played a big role for me, but I also realised how important the social interaction is. I have been able to ...talk to other people and formed friendships. This has helped my mental health and well-being. Late last year when I was dealing with mental health issues, Swan Active became a safe place for me to go. My daily routine normally starts with walking Archer and Bandit to Swan Active. Archer loves getting his pats and cuddles (hes got a soft spot for Cheryl). The boys get picked up and if they had their way, theyd be joining in, I then go and do my classes there are times when it is an effort to go to my class when I havent really wanted to. I feel better afterwards and glad I made the effort to go. During the COVID lockdown, I dont know who missed it more, me or Archer. I really missed being able to go to Swan Active, but I loved it more when I was able to return. I have achieved so much in the past few years and I dont want to lose that. This is where group fitness classes have helped me with my daily routine. Archer also helps in that part, he demands his walk. Swan Active plays such an important role in my life, whether it be my mental well-being or keeping me physically active. Thank you Charmaine for sharing your journey, its a great reminder to be kind to one another and how lucky we are to have amazing welcoming members.

Working in the airline industry I have been stood down from work and i am missing it. So coming in fills that void. ... Its great to interact with people and it keeps my mind healthy too. Im all about feeling good! When I do return to work and commence working shift work, it may be a challenge to fit classes in but I will make sure it happens! 05.01.2022 HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO OUR SWAN ACTIVE DADS| We have some inspirational dads who visit Swan Active none more so then, team Townsend dad Owen. As a family we face unique challenges, with two very energetic special needs children and myself working away in the Pilbara. We live an abnormally full on life, this said returning after all the COVID closures, injuries and break in routine have presented the greatest challenges for us but as a team we are getting back into the... swing of things. We first joined to improve our fitness and afford ourselves a break from our boys while we could focus on our physical and mental well-being. Fast forward a few years to Christy running a city to surf and joining a grid iron team and myself being the fittest I have been since I joined the Navy when I was 18 (just a couple of years ago lol) We usually come in first thing after the school drop off, walk through the door to the gym, and with the support we get this allows Christy and I the opportunity to activate our inner beast mode, do a class, smash some weights or jump into the pool before relaxing in the spa and maybe indulging in a quick coffee before heading off to our hectic life, this sets a good positive vibe for the rest of our day. I love the family friendly atmosphere , and this motivates myself to show my face , say gday and enjoy myself while my sons and Christy can be themselves, this in turn has helped me in my goals to be a better role model, and strive to be the best version of myself. Thank you to Owen & Christy for letting us share their story.
