23.01.2022 Kooloola Station Homestead, Swan Reach. 1940 Kooloola Station used to be over 10,000 acres and was a Crown Lease, The property was subdivided at one stage, and... Kooloola now consists of 720 acres, with 3.2 kilometres of riverfront, the original 1904 homestead, 1908-1914 Shearers Quarters and Shearing / Woolshed. Also located on the property is the remains of the original Swan Reach Sandstone School, a small shack which is built into the sandstone cliffs. Many Southern Hairy Nosed Wombats also reside on the land comprising Kooloola, which the Adelaide Zoological Society Researchers come to stay in the Woolshed and study often. Kooloola Station was at one time owned by Terry Tinney, and before that, John and Joan McAuley. SLSA See more

23.01.2022 Swan Reach, River Murray, South Australia. The township of Swan Reach is located on the banks of the River Murray 153 miles upstream from its mouth at Goolwa. O...ur image provides us with a momentary snap shot at a frontier town. (Left to Right) on hill. Hotel; Home of (town founder) Paul Hasse; and Pug & Pine Cottage (known as the white house.) Left to Right (foreground.) Paul Zimmermann's - General Store; and J.H. Prosser's - General Store. Mountains of bagged wheat stacked on the River bank annually, represented pay - day for the district farmers. Purchases of wheat were made by local agent buyers. The income earned from grain sales resulted in greater prosperity and growth in this town and many other river sidings along the Murray All manner of vessels called at Swan Reach: Work boats with their barges, pleasure boats and traders. Goods were dispatched and landed, passengers boarded and alighted. During the 1910s farmers dispatching grain were supported by frequent visits from P.S. Tarella, P.S. Mundoo and P.S. Federal. Locals would have to wait until July 1914 before the Government wharf had been completed. From my collection and dated c1909.
