05.01.2022 Deadly! Saltwater Freshwater Arts and the National Aboriginal Design Agency are very excited to share this announcement of the new artwork installed into the new Macksville Hospital. We were engaged by Health Infrastructure and Mid North Coast Health to develop a large wall artwork and the three large weaving working with the Macksville, Nambucca and Bowraville communities. WALL ARTWORK: art workshops for Aboriginal youth were held at Macksville High School, Nambucca Heads Hi...gh School and Bowraville Central School for facilitated by local Gumbaynggirr artists and supported by Gumbaynggirr Elders, a number of the artworks were selected to be included in the large wall artwork for the hospital, with the youth artists paid a license fee and the opportunity to see their work in a large scale installation in the new hospital. WEAVING ARTWORK: stage two was the weaving art, design concepts developed by weavers; Aunty Lauren Jarrett, Jasmine Stadhams and Denise BUchanan with support from Ricky Buchanan, local high schools, the Bowraville women's group, CWA Macksville branch and other community. The metal frames made by artist/sculptor/maker John Van Der Kolk. Three large artworks all inspired by the theme Juluum-nyarr gaagal-gu (from the Mountain to the Sea) - Yarriabini (Yarrahappini Mountain) and Muurrbay Bundani (tree of life); Jibaanga (waterhole) and freshwater creatures with Gawnggan (Brolga), mother of Birrugan and wife of Yuludarla; Gurruuja (whale) mother and baby. A true community project, we have loved working with community and the project team to bring this to life. Thank you to the high schools, especially Felicia Jarrett, Paul Evans and Diana Flanders for supporting our young people to be involved in the art and the weaving. Thank you to our Elders for leading the way and sharing stories for the development of these artworks. Thank you to the weavers who worked tirelessly creating these incredible woven artworks and a special thank you to Ricky Buchanan who has been across all aspects of the project as cultural advisor and community liaison. Thank you to Jay Black for your beautiful images and footage capturing the process and the final works. AND thank you to everyone that was involved along the way and to the project team for your support, particularly Sherrie Cowie and Brigette Uren, Images by And the trees photography

There have been may projects over the 10 years since we began in 2010 and so many special moments and memories to celebrate. These images are from our Yarning Culture through Film project that we ran with Simon Portus from Headline Productions and Claire Lindsay to create short films telling cultural stories from Coffs Harbour, Bowraville, Macksville, Kempsey, Bellbrook, Wauchope, Forster, Karuah, Port Macquarie and Taree. This project was delivered in 2018 and 2019 and funded by the Indigenous Languages and the Arts and supported by the Local Aboriginal Land Councils, local high schools and our Elders.
