25.01.2022 Youtube Video: https://youtu.be/6ZyoxMfh_BE Nice little session today on the Nerang River @ Benowra on the Gold Coast. Initially the plan was to go kayak Port o...f Brisbane. Willys weather said the conditions was good....10knot winds it had predicted. Indeed it was when I arrived there at 8:30am however after a short paddle I realised wind was getting stronger. It reached what I believed was around 20-25knots. I gave up a few moments struggling and pulled the pin. Reloaded the kayak and took to the M1 for an hour drive south to Benowra - Gold Coast. Wind was beautiful; 5-10 knots as I launched my kayak yet again at Benowra. Time was 10:30am. I knew this area well and was confident with my new found ability with SP I would do really well. I caught a lot of fish this session so wont go into detail but first to hit the deck was a large trev. It fell to a trolled gold berley flicker shad. Next fish was a large 56cm flattie; fell to a Zman 2.5in motor oil grub. The next hour or so resulted in multiple flatheads landed with only one more coming in just legal at 40cm. I did however almost landed a 60+ specimen which followed my lure on the surface all the way to the kayak then took off!! The first half of the session was mainly flatties. No bream could be found! However the mid to tail end of the session was all bream. Around 8 of them in total with 4 legals, largest came in at 32cm. I did however hook onto a 2nd trev towards the end, again on the Zman grub. Finished the session with legal bream and a tiny flattie at launch spot. Awesome lil session. Glad I made to move.

20.01.2022 Youtube Clip : https://youtu.be/y5dB5A7ygOE Late write up today for yesterdays trip. Got too tired yesterday. My apologies. I had been unable to fish for the l...ast week, seeing a glimpse of opportunity yesterday I grabbed it with both hands. Weather was looking awesome! I had a big dilemma at 4:30am. Which vessel to take out! Id wanted to go offshore in the jetski but still had cold feet from last trip where Id almost capsized Made the choice to take the kayak out instead and tried a spot Id always fished with bait years ago: Sanctuary Cove. Arrived at Tallawood Rd Boat ramp shortly after 7am. Tide had just started to move in from low. The plan was to fish across the river for a bit before drifting in with tide and peppering the jetties for bream and flathead. My tactic paid off with a few small breams and a little flattie on the drift in. Next bit of the trip was to do a loop behind a small estuary island. The area was well known to me. This little creek had a submerged pipeline which spans half way across the creek. I knew I would pick up a flattie either near the mouth or within the creek itself. I was spot on; landing the first legal flathead at 41cm in less than a meter of water. This creek produced a few more tiny breams and a tiny flathead. Last leg of the trip was the paddle back to launch spot with the outgoing tide. I picked up a few more breams on the way back including a trev which I pulled out from under a large boat. Wow it pulled hard! Finished the trip shortly after as the fish had stopped biting. Came home with a single flattie and a trev after releasing the other legal bream from the livewell. 8 breams, 3 flatties and two trev on the tally board for the day .

18.01.2022 Shane McAndrew was fishing the tweed this week with a well worked soft plastic and his reel spooled with new 10lb braid. When he hooked into something serious. ...Shane was in his boardies and thongs running around the oysters with his line peeling down the river. after a long fight he finally got the fish up and it ended up been this cracking golden trevally! Yeew such an epic fish legend . Well done mate and thanks for sharing if you have been catching like Shane send in your pics today via message. JackFFGC See more

11.01.2022 Mayday - Were Sinking This was the first call picked up by our Radio Operators yesterday afternoon. On replying and asking for a position, all the vessel was ...able to say was 26 degrees 39 minutes, before the radio went dead. Our Blue Sunday Crew was at the Base and so were directed to get underway ASAP and head out on that Latitude to search for survivors. After heading out past Pt Cartwright the crew, with skippers Ray Rahn and Steve Doulgeris aboard, received a call from the Water Police that an EPIRB had been activated and so the full position was now known. We had a vessel on our Radio Log that had indicated they were going to approximately the EPIRB position to fish and so it was possible that this vessel was the one that had sunk. On arriving at the location, a search was commenced and the two men, wearing inflatable lifejackets and clinging to an esky, were spotted by the crew and retrieved from the water. They were given dry clothes and blankets and brought back to Mooloolaba and checked by the paramedics. As it turned out, this was the boat that we had on our Log and he had actually joined as a Marine Assist Supporter and logged on that morning, so now we knew there were only two people on board. As far as we know, both are feeling better today and appreciated our help so much that the skipper came in this afternoon and made a donation to QF6 and left some beer for the crew. Its great to be appreciated, so thanks a lot. A great result for everyone involved and a fantastic effort by our crew.

01.01.2022 This turtle, affectionately named Alf by our crew, needed some assistance on Tuesday. Alf was found by a member of the public, and our guess is that he had po...ssibly had a run in with a boat.. He was brought to our base, and our duty crew contacted the Sea World Research, Rescue & Conservation Foundation who came down and collected Alf with haste. We all have our fingers crossed for Alf! Sea World did say they would keep us updated on his condition, so we will aim to provide a follow up if we can! Alfs case is a timely reminder to slow down and keep a proper lookout, not just for other vessels and people, but our precious marine life that share our waterways with us. If you do see a marine animal in distress, contact the base and our duty crew will be able to put you in touch with the right people to assist. Thanks to Josie and the other members of Purple A crew for the photos, and for their excellent response!
