25.01.2022 Our body is designed for weight bearing activity - the further down the body you travel, the greater the weight it must support. This principal underlies the design & construction of all buildings & structures. Therefore the more weight the structure bears the greater the tension placed on the structure, & the greater the likelihood of structural failure. Our feet, ankles, knees, hips & lower back are structural weak points, where the tension of weight bearing activity is borne. So .... watch your weight.

21.01.2022 Your natural foot has a ‘Straight’ Last.... and wants to be in a ‘Straight’ Last shoe ... not a ‘Curved’ Last, which will twist the foot, then leg, then pelvis, then spine

18.01.2022 Your baby and toddler’s feet will continue to grow and develop until they are a teenager. In their first four years, their bones will grow faster than they ever will. The density, thickness and strength of your baby’s bones are the most delicate during this time. A baby’s bones aren’t yet fully formed. They’re malleable and vulnerable to change. The bones in your baby’s body aren’t like adult bones. They’re soft, pliable bones similar to cartilage. Throughout their body, this... cartilage-type-bone makes up their skeleton. Their tiny, delicate bones are encased in a layer of puppy fat to protect them. You may notice your baby’s feet are flat. This is because they have a layer of puppy fat surrounding and protecting their pliable bones. Between ages two and five, the shape of their feet will become clear as their puppy fat disappears. If they try to stand too early, and lots of pressure is placed on their feet, it can cause them to misalign or grow out of shape. Your baby’s bones are easily moved. If bones move out of place, they can develop in an irregular shape. It’s so important babies wear lightweight, flexible, soft-soled shoes. Our Children learn to walk by gripping their toes on the ground. They don’t need arch supports at this stage. Instead, they need protection from hot and cold surfaces and sharp objects. They also need to feel the ground beneath. See more

09.01.2022 Do you, or your child complain of pain just below the knee cap? It could be ‘Osgood Schlatters’ Disease. Symptoms occur mostly in boys between 10-15 years, and worsens with activity. A bony bump may appear below the knee cap that may be painful when pressed. Come and get it investigated, and alleviated with the correct treatment.

04.01.2022 GROWING PAINS It is a very real thing. Why? Bones grow quicker that muscles and soft tissues. Therefore when the bones get a sudden growth spurt, that puts a lot of strain on the muscles - causing them to over-stretch, thus causing pain.... Growing Pains more often: affect children between the ages of 3 and 13; affects boys more than girls; affects the legs more than other body parts; affects the child at evening and night times; affects the child after a day full of physical activities; affects the child during a growth spurt of their bones; To help alleviate the pain, a parent can: do some gently massages on the muscles; use warmth on the muscles; and in severe cases, think about giving the child a very mild pain killer: All muscles and soft tissue attaches to bones, so there can be the tendency for the tight muscles to pull the bones, and joints out of their correct alignment, thus causing diseases such as 'Osgood-Schlatters' (of the knee joint) or Sever's (of the heel bone). Here at Swift Muscle Injury Therapy; Happy Feet - Happy Body we specialise in assessing your child's 'biomechanics' alignment.
