24.01.2022 Heres a couple of warm up exercises for everyone whos finding more time to run at the moment These will help to prevent injury and are especially great for people sitting at a computer all day before their run. Feel free to post any running specific questions in the comments!

23.01.2022 A study done by Schoenfeld et al. (2018), showed training just three times per week for 13 minutes may be enough to improve strength and endurance. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6303131/ Key findings showed that becoming stronger is all about INTENSITY. In other words, the exercises must be TOUGH enough so you feel fatigue at the end of each rep. So for those of us trying to get stronger, it's not necessarily all about time, it's about intensity. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like an exercise program.

21.01.2022 Have you heard of the Watson Headache Institute headache approach? Our Physiotherapist Nick is trained in this technique and has had great success treating headaches and migraines. Essentially, the approach is a method of examining the movements of and managing musculoskeletal misbehaviour of the top three spinal segments of the neck. It is a manual (non-manipulative/-cracking) cervical assessment and management approach which has now been taught internationally to manual therapists; physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths, for over 20 years.

20.01.2022 Another example of just how amazing the human body is - this guy just ran 50 marathons in 50 days With torn tendons and swollen ligaments, AND while working a full time job at the same time. What a champion, all for such a great cause for Australian Red Cross! Next time you think you can't do something, think about Nedd and how many times he must have had to overcome that mental block.

20.01.2022 Do you suffer from headaches or migraines? Our Physiotherapist Nick is trained in the Dean Watson technique which has been proven to be an extremely effective treatment, as seen recently on the Today show. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=560969054618815

19.01.2022 Thanks Signmart Australia for our great new sign! You cant miss it, give us a toot if youre driving past

18.01.2022 To ice an injury or not to ice? As we currently understand it, ice is less important than we once thought. The exception to this rule would be when injuries are severe and in circumstances where swelling will likely be the limiting factor for recovery. In these cases, ice may be beneficial in the early stages only.

18.01.2022 Thursday strength test: How many single leg calf raises can you do in a row? Can you beat the "normal" amount for your age range? Figures based on a study by Herbert-Losier et al (2017).

17.01.2022 Meet Tony The Fridge. Tony ran 40 marathons in 40 days, with a 42kg fridge on his back. Whilst this may seem crazy, this is a great example of how our bodies are able to tolerate load. Amazing what our bodies can do with the correct training. https://spikes.worldathletics.org/post/tony-the-fridge-spike

15.01.2022 Fact of the week: The oldest person to run a marathon is Fauja Singh, who at 101 completed the 2012 London Marathon in 7:49:21. Amazing what our bodies can achieve if we look after them

14.01.2022 Getting back into cycling this summer? Here's some great tips on how to avoid knee pain and injuries!

09.01.2022 Physical health and mental health are strongly connected. Taking care of your physical health is scientifically shown to improve mental wellbeing, and vice versa. If one declines, the other can be affected too. Whether it's massage, Physiotherapy or getting back into exercise safely, there are so many different ways to take care of your physical health, and we can help!

09.01.2022 Did you know that it takes more than 200 hundred muscles to support each of the steps you take on a run? Are you looking after these muscles by warming up and stretching? Our favourite running warm-up is dynamic lunges, so simple!

08.01.2022 Finding the right running shoes is so important, for so many reasons! Here are our 3 key rules for running shoe selection: 1. Don’t make big changes from your previous shoes. Big changes in shoe style or shape can alter tissue load and may result in injury. Try to gradually change your shoe type if you need to.... 2. Go lighter if possible. Running in a lighter shoe has been associated with improving running efficiency. 3. Make sure you test the shoe. Finding a comfortable shoe is down to individual feelings and preferences. If you do have a running injury try to test the shoe first to see if this changes your symptoms. Remember we can help with any running injuries, and get you back to running in no time! #physiotherapy #physiobrisbane #running

08.01.2022 Squats - is there a "right" way? Given that no two people's bodies are exactly the same, the best option is to select the squat strategy that feels right for you!

05.01.2022 A couple of quick and easy postural exercises for anyone sitting all day. Great to get your back muscles stronger and help with any stiffness!

05.01.2022 A common question I get asked as a Physiotherapist is, "What running shoes should I buy?" The current evidence and running courses I have attended, suggest to keep it simple and go for comfort when selecting a shoe. RunRepeat is a great place to research the top running shoes, with hundreds of reviews from fellow runners, and explains both the strengths and weaknesses of each shoe.

04.01.2022 Heres a good glute strength test, see how your left and right compare? The evidence suggests that there is a link between glute weakness and Achilles or heel pain, so great for anyone suffering with these.

04.01.2022 Introducing Nick, our Physiotherapist.

03.01.2022 A great little video showing the positive effects Physiotherapy is having on COVID-19 patients in the UK. Worth a watch if you have a spare 5 minutes, makes me proud to be a Physio. https://www.theguardian.com//covid-19-rehab-the-journey-fr

01.01.2022 Evidence from recent studies suggests smaller sesions of exercise, with 8 hours recovery between sessions, is a great way for bone to adapt to load and become stronger. Running longer does not necessarily make bones stronger.

01.01.2022 Happy Tuesday guys! We are open and operating as normal this week, and taking all necessary COVID precautions. Masks will be required by all patients, and we are offering TeleHealth appointments as an alternative to face to face. All appointment types can be booked online at https://www.swiftphysio.com.au/ or by phone on 0406 861 175. Stay safe everyone

01.01.2022 To flex or not to flex? A common misconception when lifting or bending is that we should keep a straight back and bend only from the hips. However, as I often tell patients, bending and flexing through your back is perfectly healthy and normal. A recent study confirms this, proving that flexing your spine when lifting doesnt put you at more risk of injury. (Saraceni et al., 2020) http://tiny.cc/4gfwqz
