25.01.2022 APRIL - CLUB CLOSURE The Board has made the difficult decision to close the Club to the public throughout the month of April, although this period may need to be extended in accordance with the escalation of COVID-19 and Government regulations. The Board will monitor the situation and keep members informed of any changes. During this time, TALKA office will also be closed. Any enquiries may be directed to the TALKA head office, telephone 03 9328 3466.... Our newspaper Ms Pastog will continue publication as usual. 20.01.2022 Musical afternoon with a jazz vocalist and composer Simona Smirnova February 23rd, 2020, Sydney We are pleased to present Simona Smirnova in a special one-off concert and meeting. As a part of her month - tour in Australia and New Zealand, Simona will be making a quick stop in Sydney.... Simona is a jazz vocalist, composer and kankls player originally from Lithuania. Soon after her studies at The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater in Vilnius, she received the European Touring Scholarship and moved to Boston to study at the prestigious school Berklee College of Music. After graduation with composition and production degree she moved to New York City, where Simona works as a full time musician and composer. Simona is returning to Sydney for the second time now. This year Simona is performing in Honolulu, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. During the performance we will listen Simona playing Lithuanian traditional zither kankls, learn sutartins (Lithuanian folk canons) and will have an opportunity to have a nice afternoon of conversation and a glass of wine. Obviously, everyone seems to be missing the cepelinai, and we are already fully booked. So, please do not come to the Club tomorrow unless you have already booked a table (includes Bakž), as unfortunately we may have to turn you away. However, please do come the following week and in future weeks, as we ...have full availability at this stage. Due to the capacity restrictions, it is necessary to book in advance. And if you want cepelinai, please tell us at the time of booking, to avoid disappointment! Please be assured that we are observing COVID-19 regulations for your wellbeing and ours. We have a COVID-19 SAFETY PLAN in place, as required by the NSW Government. This includes: Exclusion of staff & patrons who are unwell from the premises; Signage; Social Distancing; Alcohol & Food to be served at tables - no standing & mingling; Hand sanitisation; Enhanced cleaning measures; Registration on arrival/depature (for contact tracing purposes); Encouragement of the download of the COVIDSafe App. To assist us, Ms @Birute Aleknaité has kindly volunteered to be our COVIDSAFE Marshal and will greet patrons on entry to the Club and oversee the above measures. We shall be observing COVID protocols. Whilst food platters are permitted on each table, hands should be sanitised before sharing of the plotkele (wafer) and the sharing of food. 13.01.2022 Dear Members and Friends, On monday we farewelled yet another prominent member of the community in a relatively short space of time. Romas (Ray) Kaleda was a very significant figure in the life of the Lithuanian Club: a long time director and benefactor, who volunteered not only his time but also donated equipment and provided financial support to the Club.... Once again, our deepest condolences to his devoted wife, Irena, sons, family and friends.

13.01.2022 Menus for Mass and Sunday lunch. This will be the last Sunday that the restaurant will be open before we close for Christmas vacation. Club will re-open on Saturday 23 January 2021 for Mass and dinner. Sunday 24 January will be open for lunch.... 12.01.2022 SALE OF THE CLUB The Board will endeavour to keep members fully informed of details of the sale process. Regular updates eill be provuded in order to keep it transparent and open with information released by the Board. We know this is a very sensitive and emotive issue for Sydney Lithuanians and it will be difficult to satisfy everyone’s wishes ... Hence, a sub-committee will be formed to assist the Board in choosing a new location and whether we shall buy our own premises or combine with another Club. As Club President, Romas Cibas, concluded in his report the time had come for us to reimagine the future of our club. Meanwhile, the Board has engaged Colliers International ( Mr John McCann, National Director, Sydney Metro Sales Investment Services based in Parramatta) as agents for the sale by auction. It is proposed that the marketing campaign will commence on 02 November and the auction will be conducted by Cooley Auctions in Sydney CBD on Thursday 03 December 2020. To make the process completely transparent, we are planning to have the auction live-streamed. Mr Chris Finn of Finn Roache Lawyers based in Sydney CBD has been engaged for professional advice and to handle conveyancing for the sale. The firm also has offices in Parramatta & Bankstown.

10.01.2022 A G M Last Sunday was quite a historic day in the life of the Club. There were 47 members present as well as 1 visitor and our auditor Peter Krupski and accountant Joel Wolf in attendance. The meeting procedures were cordial throughout. Briefly, the following is a summary of the outcomes: The Annual Report including the Financial Report, the Directors' Report and the Report of the Auditor was carried unanimously;... Our auditors, PA Tax & Accounting Pty Ltd, were reappointed unanimously; The previous Board members were the only ones who had agreed to nominate for re-election to the new Board and hence were declared as duly elected by the Returning Officer, Mr Dan Bieri. All were present. The Ordinary Resolution was carried unanimously. The Special Resolution to authorise the sale of the Club was carried 44 votes for / 3 votes against. General Discussions followed about the future of the Club. Written submissions received from members Algis Kapoius, Maud Kaljot, George Morrison and El Kains were read to the meeting.

06.01.2022 CHANGES TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS WHICH AFFECT US Table bookings have now been increased from 10 persons to 30 persons. However, activity is still required to be seated and subject to the 4 sq m density rule for indoor dining... Registration on entry must now be done electronically by scanning our QR Code. Pen and paper is no longer acceptable. Therefore, you’ll need to have your mobile phones ready to scan on entry.

05.01.2022 Dear Members & Friends, It was only on the 7th July that I lamented we had lost another member within such a short space of time (a.a Ray Kaleda following a.a. Darius Gakas). However, the unthinkable has happened and we lost two more members last week, within a matter of days. In fact , for the first time ever, we had two wakes on two consecutive days - a.a. Kstas Ankus on Friday 17th and a.a. Aistis Bieri on the 18th. It was quite a challenge for us to manage but we w...ere fortunate to have Jurat Rimšien prepare the food for the Saturday wake, so that Svetlana would be able to have a rest between the Friday wake and Sunday lunch. Both occasions went very smoothly, thanks to our hardworking team: Mariana - our pocket rocket; Amy - fresh from maternity leave; Aida, Trent and Vaida. It was an irony that Fr Deveikis from Melbourne could not officiate at a.a. Kstas Ankus funeral due to COVID-19 shutdown of borders, especially since Kstas together with his devoted wife, Danut, faithfully prepared the Club auditorium for Mass every month. However, our "honorary Lithuanian priest, Fr. Joseph Kolodziej, stood in. For a.a. Aistis Bieri's wake, the tables were decked with purple flowers and purple napkins. For those of you who knew Aistis, he was always dressed in purple, right down to his socks. Flowers were beautifully arranged and donated by Gita Gilvydis, who worked closely with Aistis’ wife Jurgita, on the SAV and the mokyll at the Club. Despite COVID restrictions, wakes at the Club have proceeded well, affording families and friends the opportunity to reminisce and celebrate the lives of those loses. Now as I write this post, we have been advised of the passing of Robbie Liniauskas, a long time member of the Club and well known in sporting circles. Our sincere condolences to Robbie’s big brother, Romas and wife Maryt, as well as family and close friends. Robbie’s funeral will be held next Wednesday 29th July at 11.30 am at the South Chapel Crematorium, Rookwood Gardens. The wake will be at the Club thereafter. Stay safe everyone. 03.01.2022 World Cepelinai Day - Sunday 7th February Due to COVID 4 sqm density rule restrictions, we have structured lunch over 3 sittings: 12.00 noon; 1.30pm and 3.00pm. Patrons will be seated both in the front lounge area and the auditorium. Chef Ausra Mazeikaite, formerly from Melbourne and now relocated in Sydney, will be responsible for all restaurant operations on Cepelinai Day. She has run Cepelinai Day this way at the Melbourne Lithuanian Club and has been cooking there for... the last 8 years. The Club will be responsible for bar operations. 150 people already booked and numbers are increasing daily. In addition to the traditional meat filling, Ausra will also prepare cheese or mushroom fillings for vegetarians or vegans. However, these must be booked in advance. Please note that the menu will be limited to Cepelinai, koldunai and garlic bread (kepta duona) only. Bookings are essential and close on Thursday 4th Feb. They can be made directly with the Club or through Facebook/Messenger.

02.01.2022 Sale We’d like to clarify that the Club is still OPEN during this sale period. The Club is not being sold - only the premises. ... We will be relocating to smaller and more affordable premises but this will not happen until the new year and of course it will depend if we have a buyer at the Auction on Dec 03. There may be some disruption to services during the relocation, however, you will be informed and kept abreast of developments, as they transpire. On Monday the photographers were in, taking shots of the internal areas, upstairs and down and even managed some shots of the street frontage, despite the wet weather. However, the drone photography has been delayed, due to weather. So, we still need your support! Please do renew your membership or join if you are not already a member. Do come for Sunday lunch and buy your bread, small goods and drinks. Bags of Svetlana’s frozen koldnai (dumplings - meat or mushroom) are still available. We have Šakotis (tree cakes) on sale as well. Remember, IT'S BUSINESS AS (COVID) USUAL AT THE SYDNEY LITHUANIAN CLUB!

01.01.2022 Dear Members & Friends, We trust you all had an enjoyable Fathers’ Day. At the Club, several families celebrated Father’s Day with their friends, most of whom feasted on Svetlana's cepelinai and the tiai" enjoyed their complimentary drink on arrival. The Fathers’ Day raffle was drawn and the winners were: Michael Vainauskas (6 bottles Švyturys), Juozas Gudaitis (Starka), Dana Ankus (Cognac), and Riardas Bukis (Krupnikas). However, the day ended on a less happy note -... Svetlana informed us that she was experiencing problems with her heart and that she would not be able to work next week and possibly beyond. We are not sure if this will develop to be a permanent situation. Svetlana is well known to all and has been cooking traditional Lithuanian food, especially cepelinai, in the Club’s restaurant every Sunday, as well as preparing the tables for Šermenys for many years. We wish her a speedy recovery. In the meantime, due to the short notice, we shall have a limited menu next Sunday 13th August. Mariana will take charge of the kitchen and prepare the following meals: HERRINGS with VINIGRETAS, KOLDNAI (meat or mushroom); LIETINAI (cottage cheese pancakes); FISH AND CHIPS with salad; KEPTA DUONA (garlic bread with cheese & mayo). We seek your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment. As soon as the situation becomes clearer, we shall assess whether we need to engage a new cook to take over the kitchen temporarily or permanently. We’ll keep you informed of any developments.
