23.01.2022 Anecdotally all divers will tell you about the amazing marine life found on wrecks and this study provides evidence that artificial reefs, placed on bare sand like our proposed site, are good for fishing stocks in the area! Prof Iain Suthers is an scientific adviser to the Sydney Dive Wreck committee and ensures our proposal is scientifically and environmentally sound. 21.01.2022 The advantage of a purpose sunk wreck is it can be cleaned and made safe for divers first. This means that wildlife are safe to use the artificial reef from the beginning.
20.01.2022 Another example of how artificial reefs can be used for both a tourist attraction and to provide habitats for marine life. Selecting a barren area, such as our proposed site off Coogee, provides new colonisation areas and nurseries for local species.

As they say "A ship sold for scrap will yield a one-time, short-term dividend, a ship sunk as an artificial reef will provide dividends for over 100 years as an abundant fishing ground and also give back millions of dollars in foreign revenue to the country from the tourist divers who come to visit the wreck"

06.01.2022 After 32 years of service, this was the ignoble end of HMAS Sydney. We think continued use as a dive wreck and artificial reef is a far better option for such retired warriors.
06.01.2022 Our proposal for a dive wreck off Sydney has environmental, financial and recreational benefits. The proposed site has a bare sandy bottom and this would provide new habitats for local species. 04.01.2022 Having spent the weekend at a dive expo and boat show we have seen first hand just how many people are passionate about these interests. Our proposal for a Sydney Dive Wreck forecasts revenue over five years of $12.4M (low) and $48.6M (high) at a one off cost of $6M-$10M, with government cuts to Destination NSW this could be the perfect boost for the region. 02.01.2022 Ecological monitoring on the HMAS Adelaide showed that diversity of fish species increased from 3 to 17 in the first six months after scuttling. Now over 5 years later you can see the sheer quantity of life living on its surface in this gorgeous photo by Rising Tide Lab. Our proposal for a dive wreck off Sydney will have the same ecological benefits and provide an amazing opportunity for research by Sydney universities.
