25.01.2022 Some clinicians recommend antibiotic prophylaxis before dental procedures for patients with breast implants. 25.01.2022 According to a study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, brushing teeth frequently is linked with lower risks of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. While the study did not investigate mechanisms, one for the decreased risk is the possibility that frequent tooth brushing reduces bacteria in the subgingival biofilm, thereby preventing translocation to the bloodstream. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/2047487319886018

25.01.2022 Cancers in the back of the mouth and upper throat are often not diagnosed until they become advanced; partly because their location makes them difficult to see during routine clinical exams. A recent report published in the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics, describes the use of acoustofluidics, which is a new non-invasive method that analyzes saliva for the presence of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) -16, the pathogenic strain associated with oropharyngeal cancers (OPCs). This new technique successfully detected OPC in whole saliva in 40 percent of patients tested and 80 percent of confirmed OPC patients. https://www.sciencedirect.com//arti/pii/S1525157819303952

17.01.2022 Clinicians are often faced with challenging caries treatment, management, and prevention cases. In the case study provided in this article a glass inomer was utilised to achieve treatment objectives. Using a fast-setting, optically aesthetic, fluoride-releasing glass ionomer material is significant in providing treatments to dental patients who have extensive caries due to a history of poor oral hygiene. Due to their mineral-releasing effects, glass ionomers are effective in remineralizing and preventing caries on adjacent tooth surfaces, on cavosurface margins, and interproximally. https://dentistrytoday.com//10618-streamlining-extensive-c

15.01.2022 At a prehistoric archaeological site in Turkey, researchers have discovered two 8,500-year-old human teeth, which had been used as pendants in a necklace or bracelet. Researchers have previously found human teeth used for ornamental purposes at European sites from the Upper Palaeolithic and the Neolithic, but this practice has never been documented before in the Near East. This makes these finds extremely rare and surprising. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2019//191213115408.htm

10.01.2022 Reading this article increases appreciation for the Australian Governments decision to provide an early intervention vaccination program for the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). HPV vaccination for girls was first included in the Australian National Immunisation Program (NIP) in 2007, with vaccination for boys added in 2013. Whilst the focus in Australia is on prevention of cervical cancer, this news article highlights links to oral cancer including oropharyngeal cancer which is linked to HPV. https://dentistrytoday.com//5695-how-the-ada-oral-cancer-p

Aesthetics and occlusion play an important role in any restorative dentistry case, regardless of preparation type. Based on occlusal stresses, strength of materials used, and adhesion or cementation techniques, a number of variables are associated with how to restore teeth, as well as the success one is able to achieve. This case report may offer some guidelines that might be of some assistance on your cases. https://dentistrytoday.com//10626-complex-cosmetics-and-oc

02.01.2022 A recent study by the University of Toronto of complaints made to the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario is yielding new insights into perceptions surrounding oral healthcare professionals and their standard of care. The study found that there were as many complaints about patient interaction and interpersonal skills as there were about clinical outcomes, errors, and safety. The fewest complaints were focused on areas like management and access to care. This reinforces the view that a practitioners chair-side manner matters just as much as their clinical skills when treating patients. http://az184419.vo.msecnd.net//RCDSO_Analyzing%20Complaint
