16.01.2022 Lets talk about this article. You dont even have to go past the heading to see what the agenda is here. Vaginal birth is the DEVIL and the cause of birth tra...uma, didnt you know?? Women need be to WARNED about the RISKS of pushing a baby out of their vagina. Oh, and doctors provide much better care than midwives Give me a fucking break. Perhaps if those women who experienced traumatic vaginal births did so in a safe and supportive environment with no unnecessary interventions, they would not have been traumatised? If they had continuity of care with someone who respected and advocated for their wishes, they could have a medicalised birth and not be traumatised. Women who report feeling supported, properly informed and in control of their births suffer less trauma than those who feel like things werent explained properly to them, or done without their consent, or if they were treated appallingly by their care providers - REGARDLESS OF THE MODE OF BIRTH. This article is so flawed - it completely disregards all the existing research that says continuity of care with a known midwife provides better outcomes for women. It is thinly veiled patriarchal BULLSHIT and is dismissive of womens choice. Also - doctors arent the only ones who intervene, midwives do too. In fact, it is often built into hospital policy that they do so. Dont even get me started on this part "Dr Beale said natural birth was a lovely philosophy" Well hes right about one thing - if there was a different philosophy to birthing, less people would be damaged. But the answer is NOT more interventions across the board. This whole system needs to be burned down and built again, to be TRULY woman centred. Belittling womens choice, ignoring the evidence and towing the line that obstetricians are the experts in whats best for birthing women... Its just another day in our broken maternity system.

15.01.2022 Last night, as I sat at my computer editing a birth film, listening to Wren and Bryant play lego, I heard Wren talk about how she is lonely. > She said that Mum...my never plays with her and is always working on her computer or looking after Clover. > Lonely. She is 4. > I know and expect that at this age they are starting to put names to their feelings but my heart cant stand that a tiny 4 year old soul can comprehend and grasp such a complex feeling. Loneliness. > And loneliness at my hands no less. > Then tonight, as I went to put Clover to bed, I told Wren that I would play with her when I got back. Clover took time to go to sleep, she was overtired and fussing on the breast. I was gone 45 minutes. > I came out to this. Wren was asleep, peacefully snoring away in front of the heater, laying next to her doll who she had tenderly and lovingly put to bed. > I wonder when she will start to comprehend the feeling that now plagues me; guilt. > I work harder and longer now than I have in a busy demanding government job. I sacrifice more. I expect more of myself. I have no one else to pick up the slack if I need a mental health day or a break. > And at what cost? I do it for the absolute joy of being able to work for myself and to provide amazing imagery for families Sydney wide. I take such great pride in my work, i pore over each and every image and film. > But just know, it does come at a cost. And the price I am paying right now is time with my eldest. She will be in primary school next year and I wont get these days with her again. > I can feel a shift coming. Tomorrow I strive for more balance. 04.01.2022 Sometimes, all thats needed is a position change for baby to shift into a better spot for birth... . This mum laboured on the bed and then in the bath, when she went to get out and step over the bath babys head popped out! . If your labour is stalling and your care provider doesnt suggest a position or scenery change BEFORE they suggest medical intervention then theyre providing sub-par care .... . 03.01.2022 Feel free to share your thoughts and feelings on the archaic new rules for visitation rights for birth support people after birth. Partners are only allowed to visit for 2 HOURS A DAY after the birth. But you can go and get a hair cut any day of the week....
02.01.2022 Today I’m sharing a series from a beautiful and seriously powerful homebirth I attended recently. . This Mumma was set to birth at her local hospital, though she knew it didn’t feel right. She tried to get into the local Midwifery group practice program at the hospital but they turned her down. . Then COVID hit and that was enough for her to find a beautiful birth keeper in a local private midwife.... . This birth humbled me. I rocked up to their home after a night of early labouring, only for things to die down as the sun rose - as we all expected it might and as often happens. It’s instinct. . Our bodies need calm, quiet and dark and a toddler and life duties on the mind is not conducive to this for a mama on the precipice of a long journey to the birth realm. . So home I went. Another 12 ish hours went by and I got the call to return to the birth space. . I arrived and the birth team were there. Waiting, encouraging, giving space, holding space, sleeping in between. . I joined this rhythm of documenting, holding back and sleeping when I could. . The midwife draped a blanket over me at once stage and told me to rest. We both knew it would be a while. . Mumma was fighting a war, this birth demanded everything of her. We slept through her roars in the other room, she needed to work through it herself at that stage. . I woke to a change in tone, I got goosebumps when I heard the familiar low guttural and primal moans coming from the birth pool. . Nothing means more to me than sound in birth. Tell me your contraction timings, how long you’ve been labouring, how you’re handling the pain and your dilation til the cows come home - nothing signals birth is imminent like this sound. . I positioned myself by the pool and waited. . Mumma wasn’t here anymore, she was traveling dimensions, a pilgrimage to being her baby down to earth. . Baby was born into her hands. Shock, awe and disbelief soon followed. . These are the bits and pieces I observed along the way. . Births like this, women like this, they change you. . 01.01.2022 A cause I know yall can get behind. STILL in NSW women are being made to choose between their support staff to adhere to NSW regulations of only ONE support person at each birth. Not only this, but this one support person has to have their temperature checked upon entry and if its raised even slightly, they arent granted permission to stay.... Women, birthing ON THEIR OWN. This is so wrong on so many levels. Please sign this petition!

You can bring your partner to the shoot! Its up to you/them whether theyre involved in the shoot but theyre welcome either way!... . There is a cap of 4 people in the shoot and additional people incur a small fee. The studio isnt huge! . NO, you do not have to get naked or show lots of skin! What you wear or dont wear is totally up to you! . YES! I have dresses and gowns that you are more than welcome to borrow for your shoot! . NO, you do NOT have to be breastfeeding your baby to come along! (I do get asked this sadly ) . YES! These shoots can be used as maternity or family shoots! .
