25.01.2022 The collection of essays in the book, Justice, Mercy and Well-Being: Interdisciplinary Perspectives, examines how God’s justice and mercy intersect in the lives of individuals and their communities, with a view to the establishment of personal and social well-being in the world. The practical outcome of these studies has wide-ranging relevance for our attitudes toward indigenous peoples, the well-being of single and married people, healthcare throughout the ages, the spiritual care of people (including those suffering dementia), the personal experience of trauma, issues of moral judgement, and the abiding value of the creative arts. A must have book, edited by Peter & Jim #SCD

23.01.2022 In an eschatological view of history the vulnerable are highlighted by the cross of Jesus and from them we respond to the question ‘Where is God in our fragile world?’ Dr Rocio Figueroa is a Lecturer in Systematic Theology at the Catholic Theological College in New Zealand. 19.01.2022 Register for the 2020 #SCD Annual Lecture to be held online on 21 October. The Lecture opens with Dr Michael Jensen’s most recent research which explores what story and in what kind of story one is caught up: comedy or tragedy, to name but two examples. Christian theology maintains that we are caught up in gospel: the story of God’s self-communication to a lost world. In his lecture Michael presents the gospel not only as a great, indeed unique, literary genre but as an existential game-changer for the ages. Dr Xavier Lakshmanan will launch Michael’s new book, Theological Anthropologies and the Great Literary Genres: Understanding the Human during the Annual #Lecture,

05.01.2022 ‘Who cares in a world where justice and mercy seldom meet?’ This timeless and challenging question opens this book. This important interdisciplinary volume probes the relationship between justice and mercy from various perspectives resulting in a thought-provoking, challenging, and even convicting message. Our world is broken and desperately needs direction. In a time when society at large is grappling (often unsuccessfully) with justice and mercy, these essays will shine light from a Christian perspective on these topics. Joseph D. Fantin, Professor of New Testament, Dallas Theological Seminary Get your ebook or paperback copy #SCD

03.01.2022 The #seminar offers an opportunity to reflect theologically on our global situation and to bring the resources of our faith traditions to bear, not to provide definitive answers but to explore these resources and share them both within our churches and with the larger society. Join us for the free online #SCD seminar Affirming Creation's Goodness in a Time of Pandemic: Patristic Insights. We, modern Christians, are often both unrealistic and unreasonable. We expect only good things to happen. But not so in the natural world, as the present pandemic demonstrates. The early Christians were more realistic than this. They knew that the world, while good, is imperfect. Dr Doru Costache considers several witnesses of the ancient Christian wisdom, seeking clues for a realistic appraisal of the natural world.

02.01.2022 Late registrations for the online #SCD seminar on 28 May are available. 01.01.2022 #CallforPapers closing date 16 November 2020. Don't miss out. #SCD invites scholars, doctoral candidates, and others working in the theological and wider academic community to propose a paper for the SCD 2021 Learning & Teaching Conference, Assessment in Theological Education. Although #assessment might be onerous to student, faculty, and the institution, it is an essential part of the student learning experience and ought to be integral to it. While theological students are ...being tested by their academic program, they are also testing God’s calling for their lives. How does best-practice assessment help to shape the theological graduate for their future vocation? Papers addressing any aspect of this theme are now called for.
