20.01.2022 Kanthi Wijesoma on Pereralage Kasade, Brisbane Show Last evening (2nd Sep 2018) we went to see a very interesting drama -'Pereralaage Kasaade'. What a great production it was. It was about a couple in mid 50s who was going through a relationship crisis not having the same connection and love as before. The best part was getting the audience involved in this crisis but at the same time passing on a powerful message to them. ... Thank you Thisara Srimal for inviting us to participate. Ramya Tennekoon, Amara Ratnayake and I enjoyed it very much. p/s: The actors were absolutely great. I have no idea how they kept a straight face through out the play when the audience was in stitches!! (Photo: Anil Fernando)

19.01.2022 It was our great pleasure and honour to have Ernest MacIntyre appear at our last show in Sydney (11 August, 2018) . MacIntyre, aged 83 now, is one of Sri Lankas leading theatre figures, particularly in English theatre in Sri Lanka. 'During the 1960s Ernest Macintyre was one of Sri Lanka's most prolific and successful playwrights in English. While he was in the Sri Lankan Air Force (1961-1967), and while Director of the drama school of Aquinas University College (1968-1969) a...nd a UNESCO project officer (1969-1973) he established a performing group, Stage and Set, which produced international plays as well as his own. His early plays included 'The Full Circle of Caucasian Chalk' (1967), 'The President of the Old Boys' Club' (1970) and 'The Education of Miss Asia' (1971; later performed at the Playbox Theatre, Melbourne, 1979). 'Treated to the sophisticated craftsmanship of his productions and provoked by the thematic relevance of his plays, the expanding English-speaking audience [of Sri Lanka] developed a taste for political and social drama'. (Quoted) Some of his notable works are Let's Give Them Curry (1985), Rasanayagam's Last Riot (1993), He Still Comes from Jaffna (2000 ), A Somewhat Mad and Grotesque (1973) and The Loneliness of the Short Distance Traveller (1971) We wish him a continuing, long life! 13.01.2022 At Sydney Colombo theatre project, we are currently working on our second theatrical production. A special rehearsal performance of this play was staged on 23 June 2019 in Kellyville. Published below are a few photographs captured at the event. This production which discusses the issues Sri Lankan migrant parents with growing up children face in Australia, also has the same "participatory theatre" structure used in our first production "Pereras' Marriage". Therefore, the spec...ial rehearsal was performed in front of an audience. However it was not a complete performance as we are still developing the detailed content of the play. Several members of Sydney Colombo Theatre Project fan club who have been supporting us closely in the past volunteered to be in the audience. The production model used by the Sydney Colombo Theatre Project includes not only the participatory theatre model in performance but also developing the play in close association with the theatre audience. Our aim is to be at par with the Australian professional standard in all our work we do. It has been more than a year since we started working on this second production and we hope to bring it to the Australian audience hopefully by the end of this year. By now we have made considerable progress in developing an entertaining and creative theatrical performance. We do hope that the audience will enjoy it and we will be able to bring a meaningful theatrical experience to you. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped us so far with this second production and all our well-wishers. (Photos by Anila Fernando and Rasika Suriyaarachchi)

05.01.2022 Audience comments on Pereralage Kasade by Lal Wickramathunga (the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney) One of the most enjoyable evenings (29th) spent by me in Sydney. The performance was from the top drawer. The two principal actors were brilliantly typecast and the Director drew on the experiences of the audience in a tactful yet spontaneous manner. The facial expressions and the nuances, tone and tenor of delivery by the performers were very emotive. The cameo roles of the young Perera's was exhilarating. A new experience altogether. A highly talented Director who drew the audience into the stage to be interactive yet coercing them to open up with suggestions as to how the players should end the performance was well received. Bravo. The camaraderie with food and drink that followed allowed further critical discussion.

04.01.2022 We are a newly established Sydney-based experimental theatre group working in Sinhalese and English. Our intention is to research and make new works about the issues of minority people in Australia. We discover new ways to relate contemporary social stories from uniquely personal perspectives. This is transformational theatre, giving minority people a voice to tell their authentic tales. In this way, we educate, entertain, empower and inform the national conscience around cur...rent Australian social issues and their impact on minority communities. At the same time, we are building a Sri Lankan diasporic theatre culture in Australia. We provide a nurturing working environment for writers and artistic collaborators through actively supporting the development of new scripts and productions. It is our vision to have entrepreneurial artists in urban areas where minority communities live who have a commitment to cultural leadership, guardianship, empowerment, self-determination, and full creative self-expression.
