25.01.2022 Cheltenham Early Education Centre is open today! We were excited to welcome our children and families through our doors today. Cousins Arlo and Lachlan were the first to arrive. #firstdayofchildcare #earlyeducation #sydenyearlyeducationcentres #cheltenhamearlyeducationcentre

25.01.2022 Sustainability We are living in a world where our resources are quickly becoming finite. The most successful way to improve the current forecast and create a new way of thinking about recycling and reusing is encouraging the future leaders of tomorrow to carry out sustainable practices. This includes caring for environment by watering our garden, taking care of our worms, using our food waste for composting and of course reusing any refuse such as cardboard and paper product...s. Today became an adventure in the creation of a magical rainbow using an old cardboard box cut into squares for our collage art. We are wondering what else we can do with a cardboard box as we seem to have a few extra laying around? Any suggestions would be much appreciated and we say again thank you for the old cot as it is still In constant use and is currently converted into a puppet space recreating the story "Wombat Stew". 23.01.2022 A huge thank you to our wonderful SEEC staff who are dedicated to educating and caring for our children and families during this difficult time, as always, with positivity. We appreciate all that you do! Have a great well-deserved weekend.

23.01.2022 Farewell and best wishes to our lovely preschool teacher, Joanne. Joanne has worked with WEEC for the past 6 years. Anyone who has met Joanne will know what a talented and inspiring early childhood teacher she is, and how much she cares about children. SEEC really appreciates Joanne s time, dedication and contributions. On behalf of everyone at SEEC, good luck with the next stage of your journey in Wollongong. Wishing you and and your husband Lake a happy married life.

22.01.2022 Yesterday was National Tree Day and as a centre we incorporated a variety of experiences throughout our educational program this week with the help of our Sustainability Officer, Alice. Here is a little bit about National Tree Day: National Tree Day, proudly sponsored by Toyota Australia, was co-founded in 1996 by Planet Ark and Olivia Newton-John. It has now grown in to Australias largest community tree planting and nature protection event. Planet Ark is asking Australians... to help us plant one million new native trees and shrubs across the country. National Tree Day is a call to action for all Australians to put their hands in the earth and give back to their community. Each year, about 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate individuals about the world around them. Its a day to venture outdoors and get to know your community, and most importantly, to have fun! The children took part in planting some new trees in our gardens and also created a beautiful tree display in our foyer for all to see. Keep an eye out for some tree planting days in our community this weekend.

22.01.2022 Yesterday was Lunar New Year, its the year of the pig. Yi our mandarin educators at NEEC introduced the year of the pig to the children. The children in the Senior Preschool talked about how people celebrate Lunar New Year with traditional foods, family gatherings and Yi explained that the children get a red envelope which has money in it for them to buy pencils and pens, on the street their is lion dancing celebrating and they may see celebrations happening throughout the week and over the weekend at china town in the City and locally in Parramatta, information can be found at festival.https://www.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au//lunar-new-year-20 Zhu Nian Da Ji (Happy Pigs of the year)

21.01.2022 Were very excited to introduce you to our new mural in the Cheltenham centre. Our aim was to create a beautiful, abstract tapestry of the flora and fauna found within the Cheltenham local community and the nearby Lane Cove National Park. We wanted the children to explore and find the surreal in the familiar. We hold dear our focus on exceptional care and education for every child. So weve intertwined the SEECs logo throughout the mural; to symbolise the inherent connections of CEECs educators, management, families and the community - in partnership always.

19.01.2022 During the month May families and staff at NEEC participated in The May 50K and challenged themselves to complete 50km to raise funds for research into multiple sclerosis. Today is World MS Day. A global day of action to raise awareness of this cruel disease and to support people living with MS. 10 people are diagnosed with MS every week. It strikes young people in the prime of their lives.... My challenge ends TOMORROW and we really want to end on a high note to show my support for this amazing cause. Please sponsor our challenge on World MS Day today to leave MS where it belongs, behind us. Click below to view our fundraising page: https://www.themay50k.org/fundrai/NEEC-Walking-MS-Away-Team Your donation will support the work of MS Research Australia and fund research into MS to develop better treatments and find a cure for this disease. Thank you. NEEC Families and Staff

18.01.2022 Reconciliation Week- 27th May- 3rd Jun. It is important for the children to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and histories and to be able to share in the knowledge and help it grow. Today at NEEC we had a visit from Tess, Uncle Col, and the Animals of the Dreaming Zoomobile from #Tarongazoo #Zoomobile. The children and educators listened to stories and songs from the Dreaming about animals, as told by Col Hardy a highly respected Aboriginal Elder. The children and educators were able to see/touch a number of amazing native animals.

17.01.2022 WEEC held a science incursion the week. Science is about discovering the world, finding patterns and wondering why?" The immersive workshop provided our early learners a safe, exciting and wonder filled environment in which to explore, discover and be young scientists. They engaged with various scientific concepts such as volume, density, measurement, balancing and many such concepts.

17.01.2022 At NEEC we had a lovely afternoon celebrating our mums, grandmothers and all the amazing women in our lives. Thank you to all who joined us last Friday. We hope you had a lovely Mothers Day celebrating with your children and families and enjoyed your wonderful handmade gifts.

17.01.2022 Woodwork is part of our NEEC daily program, where the children under careful supervision use real tools and materials to make their own constructions. Healthy physical risky play opportunities are a critical part of a quality outdoor early childhood program as they help children learn new skills, problem-solve and develop social competence and positive dispositions. We love woodwork!

16.01.2022 Educators from both SEEC centres were inspired by the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) conference attended this week. The importance of starting STEM early in a childs life was emphasised as these skills are essential for developing critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills . At SEEC, children have ample opportunities to participate in numerous age-appropriate STEM based experiences, as we co-develop and support each childs disposition ...to carry learning throughout their life. Implementing STEM to our program creates a foundation for children to participate in observation, hypothesis, experimentation and investigation. These steps depict a gateway for problem solving, scientific and cognitive thinking which will cater to organise and process more complex information later through life. In a world thats changing faster than ever before, SEEC aims to equip the children with skills needed for their future. See more

15.01.2022 At WEEC, #Sustainability is at the core of its everyday practices. Gardening and providing a natural environment is a big part of our curriculum. As educators, we strive to include education about and for the #environment which may include engaging in discussion about #sustainable practices and participating in recycling program.

14.01.2022 Teachers in the NEEC preschool use a wide range of mathematical resources/experiences throughout the day. . One of the most important concepts young children need to grasp is 1 to 1 correspondence counting. Here you can see how a simple activity exposes children to experience early numeracy concepts. We love maths!

13.01.2022 Wishing you all a Happy and prosperous Diwali! May the festival of light brighten up you and your near and dear ones lives.

12.01.2022 WEEC held our annual transition to school forum on 12th March 2019. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for making it a successful night. A big thank you to our special guests for the night, Ms Olimpia, the Acting Principal and Ms Lauren, the Acting Deputy Principal at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Ms Netta Collins, the Deputy Principal at the Westmead Christian Grammar School, who shared a wealth of information and their expertise on ways to help our children get ready for big school. #bigschool#transition#schoolreadiness.

12.01.2022 10th October is World Mental Health Day. What is Mental Health? Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. (World Health Organisation, 2018).... Mental health is about wellness rather than illness'' (Beyond Blue, n.d.)

12.01.2022 Wishing all our SEEC Families and friends joy, peace and wonderful memories in 2020. We look forward to another fabulous year. Happy New Year from the SEEC Teams.

12.01.2022 Yesterday, WEEC had a special visit from the elderly residents of Opal Aged Care. Since not everybody has a family around, the visit provided a wonderful opportunity for all ages to interact with each other. For older participants, such a program allows them to pass on their knowledge and interact with young children in a meaningful way. Such an ongoing program allows us to see a real increase in the childrens #language, #emotional and #socialdevelopment, which obviously then rolls into academic improvement as well. It was our pleasure experiencing the #children and #elderly enjoy time with each other and sharing a laugh. We look forward to more of this enriching experience.

11.01.2022 On Friday, NEEC celebrated with Kanika on the soon to be arrival of her baby boy. We showered Kanika with lovely gifts and well wishes for the safe delivery of her baby boy and we cant wait to share the exciting news when he arrives. We will miss Kanika while she is on Maternity Leave and look forward to seeing her when she returns to NEEC. The children, staff and parents had a beautiful picnic lunch prepared by Alice our wonderful cook.

10.01.2022 Happy Educators Day

09.01.2022 At Westmead Early Education Centre we like to encourage children to learn skills that can develop confidence, persistence, problem solving and experimentation. Putting bed sheets on beds may seem like a small task, but the children are learning so much from this simple task. They are problem solving how to put the bed sheet on in the correct manner; confidence in their abilities when they finish their beds themselves; persistence if it doesnt work the first time; and, experimenting in ways to make the bedsheet fit correctly and not fall off the corners. They are also learning self-help and life-long learning skills through this simple task!

08.01.2022 We’re very excited to introduce you to our new mural in the Cheltenham centre. Our aim was to create a beautiful, abstract tapestry of the flora and fauna found within the Cheltenham local community and the nearby Lane Cove National Park. We wanted the children to explore and find the surreal in the familiar. We hold dear our focus on exceptional care and education for every child. 07.01.2022 We would like to thank all the families for attending our orientation night last week. The orientation night provided an opportunity for parents to get to know the educators, learn about our pedagogical program and help ease their childs transition at WEEC. It helped build the special relationship necessary for successful transition and adjustment for everyone involved.

07.01.2022 Derived from the childrens interests we decided to introduce STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Week via a Bridge Building Project. Before we commenced our project we explored our prior knowledge about bridge constructions and different architectural types of bridges. Our children identified the different types of the most famous bridges around the world, such as: arch bridge, truss bridge, cable stayed bridge, beam bridge, suspension bridge and cantilev...er bridge. Once the children had a basic understanding of how bridges work, they were eager to jump in and start building their own miniature versions with cups, thick cardboard paper, empty paper roll, string, paddle pop sticks and masking tape. This bridge planning, designing, and engineering experience created opportunities for the children to be creative, explore different materials, test ideas, problem solve, develop dexterity, increase concentration, build resilience and exercise fine motor skills.

05.01.2022 An artwork by Ollie and our learning for life curriculum in action. At Cheltenham Early Education Centre we value our unique environment and community and acknowledge and respect the heritage and the Original Custodians of the land, the Terramerregal people. During NAIDOC Week, our Preschool and Early Learning Communities celebrated the 2020 NAIDOC theme ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ by sharing experiences that explored traditional symbolism and culture in the art and literature of our First Nations people. Ollie’s artwork was created at home inspired by his teachers at CEEC. He speaks about them often and they have given him confidence to try new things. This was done inspired by recent NAIDOC week (quote from Ollie’s mother). Thank you for sharing this magnificent artwork.

04.01.2022 #WestmeadEarlyEducationCentre had a wonderful opportunity to invite the residents from the #CabriniNursingHome for morning tea. The children had an unforgetful experience singing, interacting and sharing a laugh and morning tea with the elderly. The program benefited both ages, helping in cognitive stimulation as well as broadening their social circle. We hope to continue to build and strengthen #IntergenerationalRelationships in the near future.

04.01.2022 Thank you to all those families that attended our #orientation night yesterday. It was a great interactive and informative night where parents and educators had a valuable opportunity to share information. We look forward to seeing them all again at our #pedagogical #practice meeting scheduled for 19th Feb 2020.

02.01.2022 It is valuable for children to feel part of our wider community that extends beyond our learning environment. Last Wednesday Senior Constable LIPLYN, from the Parramatta Police visited NEEC. He shared with the children lots of valuable information about road and carpark safety, carseat safety, safe people and places and who to call in case of emergency. The children were able to see inside the car and hear the different sirens the police car has.
