19.01.2022 Let's take a walk down memory lane by looking at some vintage photographs from decades ago. During the 1980s and 1990s our club has been the lead performer regularly called upon by the New South Wales Multicultural Association to feature at most multicultural events all over the city. The first photo is with then Premier and Treasurer of NSW, Nick Greiner on the steps of Opera House. Some of the other photos are from one of the trips to Melbourne when we were invited to perform at Australian Chinese Community Event in Melbourne's China Town.

14.01.2022 Digging through the archives is one of our favorite things to do on the weekend (when we are not performing). These photos are from the 2006 Chinese New Year celebrations featuring the Golden Dragon Disciple, Sifu Barry William Hale.

14.01.2022 Did you know that the colours of the lions in traditional Chinese lion dance are used to signify the age and character of the lions, which translates into the lion's movement and demeanor? In Southern lion dance, the lion can take on many colours, however the most common are three canonical lions which represent the three main characters from the epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms, who were blood oath brothers sworn to restore the Han Dynasty. Based on historical sources the...se are the main characters represented by the lions: The Wise One Lau Bei: gold face, white beard, multi coloured rainbow tail. The Lau Bei lion, being the first Emperor of the Shu-han Kingdom, bears the highest rank and is the eldest of the three brothers. It has an imperial gold yellow face with white beard to denote his wisdom. This lion is usually used by schools with an established Martial Art Master. The movements of this lion are calculated and precise. This lion is brave but cautious, moves slowly, emphasising each movement, always holds the head high. The Righteous One Gwan Yu: red face, black beard, red and black tail with green underlining The Guan Yu (also commonly referred to as Gwan Gung) lion is thought to be the second brother, it has a red based face, black bristles. Guan Gung was also known as the "Duke with the Beautiful Beard", hence the long black beard on the lion. This lion has a grand demeanor and moves with pride. The Brave One Cheung Fei: black face and beard, black and white tail The Cheung Fei lion bears the third rank and has a black based face with short black beard with white trim. Being the youngest of the three brothers, Cheung Fei had a quick temper and loved to fight. The characteristics of this lion's movements are sharp and fast, with quick transitions and distinct fighting stances. Next time you are at the school or are watching a lion dance performance, take a look at the lions and see if you can recognise the characters their represent.
