With this type of fraud, the scammer will pose as a legitimate supplier and request payment of invoices to a bank account they control. In order to make the invoice look legitimate, the scammer may have hacked your email or your supplier’s systems. ... The invoice may even come from a supplier’s email address (if that’s been hacked) or more likely from some slight variation of it, which makes it difficult to identify the scammer’s email from a legitimate address. Most of the time, you won’t detect the scam until your supplier contacts you for the payment they haven’t received. To protect yourself: Double check email addresses - scammers can create a new account which is very close to the real one; if you look closely you can usually spot the fake. If you think a request is suspicious, telephone the business to seek verification of the email’s authenticity (do not seek verification via email) Do not call any telephone number listed in the email; instead, use contact details that you already have on file for the business, or that you have sourced independently.

20.01.2022 RBA Official Cash Rate Decision - Member Update On Tuesday 3 March the Reserve Bank of Australia announced a 0.25% cut to the official target cash rate which is now at a historic low of 0.50%. There has been an increase in scams reported during tax time such as text messages claiming to be from myGov or from agencies claiming to help victims gain early access to their superannuation. If you’re not sure if an email or SMS you received is legitimate, contact the ATO using details you’ve sourced yourself. 15.01.2022 The First Home Loan Deposit Scheme Trends & Insights report, released by the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC) revealed that first home buyers are now able to enter the market four years earlier than previously planned. Under the Scheme, eligible first home buyers on low and middle incomes are able to purchase a home with a deposit of as little as 5 per cent. 20,000 Scheme places were released to participating lenders, including Sydney Mutual Bank an...d Endeavour Mutual Bank. According to the Trends & Insights report, essential workers secured one in six of the scheme's guarantees and half of Scheme guarantees were issued to single buyers with taxable incomes of $60,000 to $80,000. 11.01.2022 To help reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission via POS devices, the Australian Payments Network (AusPayNet), the self-regulatory body for the payments industry, has decided to increase contactless card transactions from $100 to $200 without requiring a PIN. This is a temporary measure, which will initially be in place for a period of 3 months. Please note that not all merchants will enable the changes on Day 1 but the large supermarkets are likely to be first to launch.

To better organise and identify your accounts you can give them simple names, such as 'Bills', 'Groceries' or 'Rent', or you can name them after your specific goals like 'House Deposit' or 'Wedding'. To personalise an account name: 1. Log into internet banking... 2. Click 'Account Options' in the top menu, and choose ‘Personalise Account Names’. 3. Highlight an account in the list by clicking on the round button that’s in line with the account you want to rename, and then enter a new name in the input box underneath labelled 'Enter your Personalised Account Name'. Do not enter the word "account" in your new account name as it is not needed and will be automatically removed. Maximum length of the account name is 22 characters. 4. After entering the new name, simply click on Save and then Finish to exit the menu. Please note, the bank’s official records for the name of the account will not change. For payment purposes use the official name of your membership.

02.01.2022 Please be aware that an email scam leveraging on fears around coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, is doing the rounds. The email captured by MailGuard informs the recipient that a ‘file of victims and predicted victims of corona Virus as at 22/02/2020’ is attached, and that it contains ‘pictures, countries, names and companies affected’. The email body ends with the address and website for ‘The Central Hospital of Wuhan’.... The ‘attached file of victims and predicted victims’ is actually a malicious file designed to infect users’ systems. We strongly advise all recipients to delete these emails immediately without opening any attachments and clicking on any links.

01.01.2022 SCAM ALERT A number of members have reported receiving calls falsely purporting to be from Amazon, where the caller is trying to get account or card details. This is a common phishing scam across the UK and US and is now targeting Australians. If you receive a suspicious call, email or text claiming to be from Amazon which asks for personal information, a payment, or offers a refund you don’t expect, please do not share any personal information and hang up immediately.

This requires your member number, internet banking pass code and phone number.
