There are many factors that ma...ke a good Personal Trainer. * Theyre Relatable Personal Trainers should care about their health, but that doesnt mean they have to eat steamed broccoli and rice for every meal. Everyone has a guilty pleasure or two (I personally love a Beer on the Weekend - and Lollies) and I let my clients know that the occasional indulgence wont hurt them as long as they make healthy decisions most of the time. * They Walk the Walk As a mum, if I tried to convince my kids to stop eating so much sugar with a can of Coca-Cola in my hand, how effective do you think I would be? - Not very. I cant expect people to take me seriously if I dont follow my own advice. * Theyre Easy to Understand Its important to teach my clients in a language they understand. 07.01.2022 ORTHOREXIA What is Orthorexia? Well the google description is this: an obsession with eating foods that one considers healthy.... a medical condition in which the sufferer systematically avoids specific foods that they believe to be harmful. noun: orthorexia nervosa; plural noun: orthorexia nervosa I have it - not as bad as I used to and it could be a lot worse but I have had Orthorexia for a long time - it stems back from being an overweight kid. I first went to Weightwatchers when I was 14 - that’s where I learnt that butter was really bad (it’s not really bad at all - but I still cannot put it on my bread ) I also felt ashamed every time I had to be weighed & hadn’t lost anything. My dad then joined me up to Jenny Craig when I was 16 - back then the food was in tins and was so horrible. I remember the Weightloss Consultant told me I was big boned and that was why I wasn’t losing weight (I believed her for a very long time ) I then tried the Low Carb Atkins Diet, the Low Fat Diet, the Soup Diet - in fact I’ve probably tried just about every gimmicky diet, weight loss pill or product available to me at the time between 14 & 30 years of age. Each new diet I had to cut out some foods or food groups. Did they work .... NO!!! What did I learn from these Diets? I learnt to demonise certain foods - and even now after obtaining a Diploma of Dietetics & Nutrition- and KNOWING it’s not right I still find it hard to get past things put into my head by ill informed consultants & diets. What worked??? At 30, I joined a Gym, fell in love with Group Fitness, started exercising regularly & cut out junk food & replaced it with REAL foods. Today there are So called Instagram Influencers telling you what you should & shouldn't eat & what exercises they do .... are they qualified? I doubt it - our Industry is so badly regulated that you can become a PT in a 12 Week course nowadays I wish our Industry would STOP with the drastic diets, the cutting out of certain food groups, the pills & potions, the caloric restrictions that are unsustainable. 06.01.2022 It is SO IMPORTANT for us at SMART FITNESS to still be following Government Restrictions with Social Distancing and the capping of numbers in our Group Fitness Room and PT Studio - especially now with the cluster of cases in Brisbane and restrictions coming back into play in QLD. As all of our classes need to be booked into now, once we know class numbers - we set up your steps and weights for you. To comply with the NO sharing of equipment restrictions - we have not been a...nd will not be running our circuit style classes until restrictions are fully lifted. In our SHOCKWAVE Class the rowing machines are cleaned down after each participants row. After each class using Steps/Barbells and Plates - everything is wiped down before putting away. When attending a Group Fitness Class - please do not enter the Studio earlier than 10 Minutes before the class. If there is a class on beforehand then please wait outside until the previous class has finished and the participants have left the Studio - we are only a small Studio and need to be wary of numbers inside. We ALL have to work together to STOP THE SPREAD. The last thing we want is to have to close up again :( THANK YOU ALL for your ongoing support <3
