26.04.2022 https://vimeo.com/666171621, This is an odd video about one of the Gunks (Shawangunks, NY, USA) route developers. They make a big deal about not inspecting or placing bolts, but no-one does there. A cranky throwback to the Barber era (1970s) wearing only a swami belt and no cams. He did a bunch of hard things with all the other locals. In the old videos he runs up things he's done a hundred times with minimal gear for bragging rights. The rock is like Arapiles, but seems muc...h, much stronger and has megajugs in most horizontals. There's a little interview while he belays a second (talking about being fined for parking below Millbrook), the downwards ATC belay is variable for belaying seconds, most people these days would use a Grigri, Reverso, or re-belaly the rope to go through a runner above. On the plus siude, double ropes give you a lot more friction to hold a fall like this.

20.04.2022 Big donation to the library from Mark Squires (Qld). WIthin NSW there are 10 guides which which are still useful and current, and about 20 old guides which are of historical interest (a few of them published by the SRC). There are another 12 guides to out of state areas, many of them with current guides available.

19.01.2022 Hi members, let’s give a hand to look after our crags. Numbers limited.

16.01.2022 Controversy corner:- I'd heard about this when I was little, but came across this in old SRC newsletters. September 1967

11.01.2022 Guys please write your objections to this overpass ASAP. What a joke.

10.01.2022 The library is still open for borrowing. Also, I'm passing on a big collection of old Thrutch mags to the library, from mid 60s to early70s. For the true history buffs. Lots on first and early ascents of big classics by Ewbank and others.

02.01.2022 Dear Sydney Rockclimbing Club Members, It has been a challenging time in the last couple months when outdoor activities have been put into hibernation due to the bushfires and COVID-19 situation. With recent easing on social distancing measures, I was glad to see climbers are out on the rock walls, walkers are out in the bush, and bikes are mounted on the roof racks in my local area - Blackheath, Blue Mountains. My colleagues and I are working on an Adventure Tourism Study to... provide insights to local tourism authorities to improve tourism infrastructure and adventure visitor experience. I appreciate your input in this visitor survey that will provide valuable insights for tourism infrastructure planning and improved visitor experience, and I look forward to seeing you all when we are all back in actions after the Pandemic. https://think.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_23Qr7WDyjxB2bIN Sincerely, Stephan Tseng Secretary, Blue Mountains Tourism Email: [email protected] | Website: www.visitbluemountains.com.au
