09.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK WEAVING WORKSHOP On Thursday 12th November students from SSC Leichhardt participated in a weaving workshop for NAIDOC Week. We used traditional Aboriginal techniques to create temporary designs with recycled materials. Students from all years across Leichhardt campus came together to learn from Aunty Karleen, a renowned Aboriginal artist, who taught us the basics of Aboriginal weaving. Using old fan faces, CD’s, DVD’s and multi-coloured wool we created a multi-faceted artwork to represent the school and its community. The largest fan, woven in red black and yellow represents the school, the smaller fans symbolise the teachers and the individual CD’s and DVD’s are representative of the students. Thank you so much to Aunty Karleen Green, who taught us how to bring together the new and the old of Aboriginal culture.
