25.01.2022 If you have money invested, is it invested in a way that is consistent with your personal values?

24.01.2022 If you *really* need to get some new swimmers this summer then here's some brands that are going the extra mile to make their products more sustainable.

24.01.2022 Australian Circular Economy Hub Launch 24th November

20.01.2022 This is a great pivot away from simply being an energy provider and it helps move AGL into an energy related company for the future, including potentially being able to utilise electric vehicle battery storage for decentralised grid connected storage. I think, ultimately, options like this will prove to be hugely popular although it may be more in the share model to keep ongoing costs down that it will be more popular. For example, in an apartment building you would not need ...a fast charger for every electric vehicle and that efficiency for shared infrastructure will make a huge difference in pricing. I'm curious: 1. would you consider putting up your hand for a deal like this at approx $15,000 per year? 2. If not, how cheap would it have to come down to before you'd get rid of your car and sign up to an electric vehicle deal like this? 3. If you were keen at whatever level it might settle at, would that be enough for you to lock yourself in as a customer of AGL given its overall position on fossil fuels and climate and a complete transition to clean renewable energy? 20.01.2022 This looks like being an interesting and impressive lineup. If you have the time to attend it's a free event! If you can attend I'd love you to share a summary here for us as I don't think that I will be able to make it myself.

20.01.2022 It's nice to be able to share a positive development from 2020!

16.01.2022 Garage Sale Trail is coming!

15.01.2022 CO2 levels in the atmosphere Weekly averages 5 September 2020: 411.59 ppm This time last year: 408.82 ppm... 10 years ago: 387.59 ppm Pre-industrial base: 280 Safe level: 350 Atmospheric CO2 reading from Mauna Loa, Hawaii (part per million). Source: NOAA-ESRL Scientists have warned for more than a decade that concentrations of more than 450ppm risk triggering extreme weather events and temperature rises as high as 2C, beyond which the effects of global heating are likely to become catastrophic and irreversible. 15.01.2022 A great new reason to go to the Post Office!

11.01.2022 This 'Urban Carbon Sink Pilot Project' is something that I believe we should be duplicating in some way in our local communities here in Sydney. Can you think of something similar to this near you? I'd love to hear about it!

10.01.2022 "Every 10,000 tonnes of waste that is recovered, reused, repurposed or recycled creates 9.2 jobs, compared with just 2.4 jobs if that material is sent to landfill or exported."

10.01.2022 What a horrific statistic! We have to do better! Classic not plastic!

09.01.2022 There's been a commonly held understanding for some time that the younger generations in the workforce highly value being engaged in work for an employer that has genuine sustainability concerns within the core values of the organisation. The write up from this survey has reinforced that, but what I found particularly interesting was how widely distributed this preference was spread across all ages in the workforce. Businesses that want to attract and retain the best workers really need to ensure that they are taking every step to optimise their environmental management and their corporate social responsibility programs. If you need assistance with this please contact Sydney Sustainability Centre and we can certainly help!

09.01.2022 This will be great to see. There can be so many environmental and health benefits to this.

06.01.2022 There are some great tips here from Josh Byrne. Most of these have been around for a long time but it's always worth revisiting them and considering whether any of them that you haven't yet carried out are now within the realms of possibility. I like how he has broken them down into cost brackets which also can help to show which actions are relevant for renters too.

05.01.2022 This is atrocious news to have confirmed, although most people would have already expected that it was the case. We need to get ourselves more involved people! We need to be able to rely on the advice from scientists and they need us to stand up for them to ensure that their work isn't manipulated to suit the political agenda of the government of the day, regardless of what flavour that government is. "a Deakin University associate professor in wildlife ecology and co-author on the paper, described the study as pretty clear evidence the democratic process, which is based on having an informed public, is being interfered with.

05.01.2022 "A total of 28 trillion tonnes of ice have disappeared from the surface of the Earth since 1994. That is stunning conclusion of UK scientists who have analysed satellite surveys of the planet’s poles, mountains and glaciers to measure how much ice coverage lost because of global heating triggered by rising greenhouse gas emissions."

05.01.2022 It's going to be interesting to see what the uptake of this new vegan, plant-based tuna alternative will be. We badly need to reduce the overfishing pressures that humans are putting on our oceans for our collective chase for edible proteins.

02.01.2022 If you missed Episode 2 then here's a link to watch it. It's a great way to spend a little time and get yourself thinking about what else you can do to reduce your impacts. If you find yourself inspired to do something on any of these topics but don't know where to start, please don't hesitate to contact us here at Sydney Sustainability Centre. We'll either help you directly or introduce you to your local Transition Sydney group and you'll be able to plug yourself into our upcoming Transition Streets Program!

02.01.2022 This is great news indeed. The retailers complaining about not having enough time to prepare need to suck it up and just get on with it. The speed of change demonstrated with COVID shows that change can and must happen much faster than the laggards trying to avoid getting with the program have expressed as being possible in the past. Given that it's mid-September now, "early 2021" isn't that far away and I say it can't come quick enough when it comes to important changes like getting rid of single-use plastic cutlery and straws.
