Please direct calls to me. There are so many scammers out there at the moment. 23.01.2022 The ATO is getting more active in the space of "other" work-related deductions. Sometimes new clients are surprised that I am not claiming as much as the previous accountant did. Quite often this is because their past claims have been a little too much of a stretch.... See article for more details.

17.01.2022 So Sunday and Public Holiday penalty rates have been reduced. I can understand both sides to this decision. Employers are struggling to make a decent profit (in certain industries) and for the employees, the cost of living is so high. I cant help but think this may backfire for employers and that it will be harder to get staff! It will be interesting to see the consequences of this decision.

14.01.2022 Single Touch Payroll (STP) - Reminder to all businesses with staff to count the number of workers on their payroll as of 1 April to determine if they need to report through Single Touch Payroll this year. The ATOs mandatory reporting system, which comes into effect on 1 July 2018 for organisations with 20 or more employees, requires them to report payments, PAYG withholding and super information in real time directly from their payroll system to the ATO. STP compliant accounting software is a must if you dont already have it!

14.01.2022 Underpayments are very common in the hospitality industry..... this is because there are small margins and huge overheads. I do feel sorry for the cafe owner but at the same time they should follow the rules. Lesson - always check with Fair Work that you are paying correctly. In the age of the internet, most people know their pay rates! Dont assume you wont get caught underpaying employees.

03.01.2022 The ATO plans to expand the taxable payments reporting system to contractors in the courier and cleaning industries starting 1 July 2018. What does this mean for small business? Businesses will need to track and report certain information about contractors used in their businesses each year to the ATO, much like the way the building and construction industry already reports. The ATO is widening the net on capturing anomalies in the declaration of income.
