22.01.2022 Hi Everyone! Weve all been working from home and it occurred to me that with all the time spent staring at the computer, were potentially doing more damage to... our eyes than usual. (By the way, I think there is something wrong with my computer because every year the font seems to get smaller!) Anyway, your computer, like your cell phone, emits a lot of blue light. This is the higher energy, shorter wavelength light in the visible spectrum. Because blue light is higher energy, it can damage the cells in your eyes, particularly the cells that make up the part of your retina called the macula. The macula is responsible for your central (as opposed to peripheral) vision as well as your color vision, so its very important. Luckily for us, we have pigment (cleverly named macular pigment) that helps absorb the damaging blue light and protects our macula. This macular pigment is composed of 3 compounds: lutein and 2 types of zeaxanthin. Our bodies dont make these compounds but we can get them from green, leafy vegetables. Unfortunately, many of us just dont eat enough of these. But we have a wonderful supplement that provides the recommended levels of lutein and both forms of zeaxanthin. 16.01.2022 I spent some time relaxing in the garden outside our global headquarters building, where we grow many aromatic plants. This time of year one of the most beauti...ful flowering plants is Salvia sclarea. The essential oil we distill from this plant is complex. Linalool contributes floral and woody notes and linalyl acetate is sweet and somewhat fruity. One of the most unique compounds found in the essential from this plant is (1R,2R,4aS,8aS)-1-[(3R)-3-Hydroxy-3-methyl-4-penten-1-yl]-2,5,5,8a-tetramethyldecahydro-2-naphthalenol. OK, I just thought I’d write that to impress you! The common name is sclareol. Compounds like sclareol are rarely found in essential oils because they are too heavy to be distilled. Sclareol contains 20 carbon atoms, while most compounds found in essential oils have 15 or less carbon atoms. But sclareol can be distilled because it is an alcohol, which has a chemical affinity for water, which, in turn, allows it to be distilled with water. Actually, sclareol is classified as an alcohol diterpene, and has a structure similar to that of human estrogen. Ok, enough of the chemistry lesson. You’ll find a lot of information about this oil on the internet. In the meantime, you can see for yourself how beautiful this plant is by watching my short video. 07.01.2022 You are BEARY special to us! Here is a Healthy, Fun, and Easy to make Homemade NingXia Red Gummy Bear Recipe to try this weekend! Ingredients:... - 1/2 Cup of Organic Cherry Juice - 1/2 Cup of NingXia Red - 2 Tbsp. of Gelatin - 5-6 Drops of Lime Vitality Essential Oil - 1/4 Tsp. of Honey (This is optional, but does make for a sweeter treat) - Silicone Molds Directions: 1. Place your mold/s on cookie sheet that will fit in your refrigerator (or freezer for faster setting). 2. Add the Organic Cherry Juice and the NingXia Red to a small saucepan and bring to a slight boil. 3. Remove from heat and slowly add in the Gelatin 1 Tbsp. at a time. 06.01.2022 Child dies from influenza after mother chooses not to administer Tamiflu. There has been a week of online vitriol aimed at a woman who chose to use natural meth...ods with fever-reducing medications to treat her childs flu infection. Much of the hatred stems from the fact that the mother never filled a prescription for Tamiflu. Heres the problem with that: there is no data to suggest that Tamiflu reduces the risk of death from influenza. It is labeled only to shorten the duration of the flu when taken at the first sign of influenza. Considering that this medicine was not given early in the course of infection, it may have not given any benefit to the child. So the premise of this article, the assertion that the mother did not do everything in her power to treat the flu is false and misleading. This drug has never been shown to help reduce the risk of death. Another problem: media reporting. The index article focused heavily on the childs high fever and febrile seizures but failed to mention that the mom was treating them with cyclic acetaminophen and ibuprofen. The article also asserts that using elderberry syrup is an absurd and meaningless approach to treating the flu. This is also false. Elderberry has been shown to effective kill influenza A and B. And in a randomized, placebo controlled trial, patients who received elderberry had relief from flu symptoms an average of 4 days earlier than patients receiving placebo. Same goes for Vitamin C. It is neither woo woo nor novel to use high dose vitamin c to treat the flu. It not only equips the immune system with key nutrition needed to fight the flu, but has been shown to decrease cold and flu symptoms by 85%. Then people lit into this mother for not providing the child with a flu vaccine. The flu vaccine is also not indicated to reduce the risk of death from flu. In fairness, there is one study that shows unvaccinated children are more likely to die from complications of the flu, but the vaccine itself is only labeled to prevent the flu. Additionally, the child had onset of febrile seizures with a temperature of 102 degrees. Certain flu vaccines have been shown to cause serious adverse effects INCLUDING fevers over 102 degrees. And I didnt just say thatit is right in the package insert. May I say something that may sound cold and callus and will make you want to hug your children just a little but tighter? Every year, children die from the flu. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated. Both treated with medications and those treated only with natural remedies. It is a harsh, yet unavoidable, fact of life. There is no need to make a media frenzy and embarrass and bully this mom. My heart aches for this mom, who was doing her best to care for her child, chose treatments that were right for her at the time, and already must be experiencing extreme sorrow, guilt and questioning of Could I have done more? I am lifting her up, and empowering all you mamas out there to train your children on ways to prevent viral infection: washing hands, avoiding exposure to infected people, vaccinating if you choose, cough into elbows, disinfect surfaces, and drink plenty of water. If anyone knows her, please tag her and lets all show her love and kindness. I know people get spirited about these kinds of topics. Oils used in this recipe: -Peppermint: Is known to open and clear the sinus. Contains a cooling and soothing effect for the skin, and may help with lessening aches. -Eucalyptus: Is a great expectorant, and naturally helps open airways. -Lemon: Contains an aroma that is invigorating, enhancing, and warming. May also help with opening airways. -Lavender: Is calming, relaxing, and balancing both physically and emotionally. A soothing oil that can help promote deep sleep. -Tea Tree: Promotes cleansing and purity. Directions: 1. On a double boiler melt the Beeswax stirring occasionally as it melts. 2. Add the Coconut Oil. Keep stirring occasionally until completely melted. There should be no clumps. 3. Once completely melted remove from heat and allow to cool for a couple of minutes. 4.
