16.01.2022 More great stretches from Equestricare Equine Sports Therapy Today we have some stretches for the hind leg. These are especially good for balance and proprioception as well as stretching the muscles used in protraction and retraction.
15.01.2022 It’s going to be a very hot weekend here in Sydney It’s a good idea to check the temperature of your horses’ water throughout the day, if possible. On really hot days, the trough water temperature ideally should be cool, however in this heat the water temperature can rise, making it undrinkable for our horses. Running the tap for a few minutes and adding cold water to the trough can lower the temperature and ensure our horses are staying hydrated
14.01.2022 A great video showing what fascia actually looks like. Fascia is connective tissue that connects all parts of the body, wrapping around muscles and holding organs in place. Addressing issues in the fascia can reduce pain, increase range of motion, and help nourish muscles and nerves.
13.01.2022 Stretching is such an important inclusion in your horses fitness program. Always perform stretches when the muscles are warm - either after your horse has been worked or after a massage. This prevents muscle strain and tears. #equinesportsmassagetherapist
13.01.2022 What to expect during your treatment? An initial sports massage treatment (where I havent treated your horse before), usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours. This allows me to obtain a full history from you which includes past injuries or issues both in hand and under saddle youve experienced with your horse. I will also assess your horse both standing still, and walking/trotting out to see if there are any noticeable areas that appear stiff, or inhibited in their motion. The treatm...ent itself involves sports massage, red light therapy if applicable, stretching, as well as focal point work on stress and trigger points. These are all combined where necessary to provide optimal support for your horse. PLUS expect lots of yawns and droopy lips - and theyre just from me LOL (just kidding )
12.01.2022 Nettles are one of my favourite herbs a small handful of dried nettles fed in Spring can help shift the winter woollies.
12.01.2022 Happy New Year to all of my friends and clients. Special mention goes out to my friend and sponsored horse and rider combo Sal Scott and Mighty Flying Major NZ (Arty). What a special duo As a volunteer firefighter, Sal has spent the last 6 weeks fighting in and around the Gosper Mountain Fire, spending days and nights working to protect people and properties. Such an amazing, caring person.... Today, Arty was announced as the Standardbred Dressage Horse of the Year by Sydney Dressage Inc. Not bad for a horse who has only been under saddle for a little over 12 months Cant wait to see where 2020 takes this incredible team
12.01.2022 $18.00 for 100g tub. Great for rainscald, itch and greasy heal
11.01.2022 The skin and coat of our horses can sometimes be the first subtle sign that something isnt quite right beneath the surface.
11.01.2022 A great day for good friend and Sponsored Horse & Rider duo Sal Scott and Mighty Flying Major NZ. Castle Hill Twilight Show 2019 1st Open Ridden Standardbred ... CHAMPION Ridden Standardbred 2nd Newcomer Hunter 2nd Open Hunter 15.2 - 16hh Arty was turned out impeccably as usual thanks to Sals talent
11.01.2022 This is a long read but a very good one. Its very rare for a horse to have behavioural issues because they are a naughty horse. I personally dont believe horses are bad by nature, there is always a reason whether through pain, mistreatment, diet or ill-fitting tack.
10.01.2022 Improve your horses health, wellbeing and performance with the inclusion of herbs to the diet Herbs help support & enhance the physical and emotional development of horses. They can help offer resistance to common ailments, by offering immune support and helping the body eliminate toxins. Herbs can help maximize your horses performance, by supporting all the internal organs, including the heart, lungs, digestive system etc.... Herbs are loaded with antioxidants which are extremely useful in strengthening the immune system and aiding performance in the horse.
10.01.2022 How often should my horse receive a massage? On a daily basis you can massage your horse through grooming. If your horse is recovering from injury (depending on the type of injury, rehabilitation plan and any drugs/medication your horse is receiving), a massage routine weekly is beneficial.... Every 6-8 weeks is great for general maintenance and keeping muscles soft and supple.
08.01.2022 Such beautiful words from Rubenesque Rider
08.01.2022 Rainy day appointments can still go ahead if you have somewhere dry for me to treat your horse
07.01.2022 The last chart in the series
07.01.2022 Why Equine Sports Massage? Massage is the therapeutic application of particular techniques that address the whole body using palpation methods to assess soft tissue and the symmetry and function of muscles. Sports massage works to increase circulation and range of motion, which in turn improves the horses stamina and overall performance. It also relieves muscle spasms and tension and enhances muscle tone.
06.01.2022 Great, sensible advice
05.01.2022 2020 has been a strange year with equestrian events being cancelled then going ahead only to be cancelled again (thanks to COVID19). This is great advice from Dr Hilary Clayton on conditioning your horse to bring them back into work
05.01.2022 Following on from yesterdays post, Jess from Equestricare has provided a chart of foreleg stretches you can do with your horse. Dont forget to always do stretches only when your horses muscles are warmed up

03.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? A horses skin is super sensitive; deriving from the same embryonic tissue during gestation, as the nervous system. Its important to realise that horses can be over-stimulated to a state of physical and/or mental distress with over-grooming/ massage etc. ... Listen to your horse, and learn to read his/her body signals It isnt always ulcers ;)
02.01.2022 Its going to be a very hot weekend here in Sydney Its a good idea to check the temperature of your horses water. On really hot days, the trough water temperature ideally should be cool, however in this heat the water temperature can rise, making it undrinkable for our horses....
