18.01.2022 Today we bid farewell as Evie flys home to her family and her fur bubbas 15 weeks ago Evie jumped on a plane at the drop of a hat to ensure Weipa had a Vet in town whilst the lockdowns were in place . Evie we will miss you, you have definatlely become a part of the Weipa Community and we will be seeing you back soon enough Thank you Thank you

16.01.2022 To all our valued Weipa clients, We know just how stressful it is being so remote and unable to seek veterinary care for your animals at the best of times, let alone during a pandemic, where there is so much uncertainty and fear. We are delighted to inform you that our amazing vet, Evie, will be making Weipa home for the next few weeks (minimum). She has been in hiding up there in isolation this week and will be ready to provide care to your pets next week. ... Some of you already know that we have been actively advertising for a full time vet to be based in Weipa for over 2 years, with no suitable candidate to date. For over 30 years our vets have left their family’s, their own animals and their homes to come up and help take care of your animals. Watching the situation evolved with COVID-19, and seeing the risk that was there for an isolated community like Weipa (both in terms of vet needs and the health of the people), we were very worried about how we could get a vet to the clinic. We cannot thank Evie enough for stepping up and taking this role on, all while the world is in so much turmoil. A big thank you to Maz, Kerri, the Weipa community, Rio and WTA for working with us to ensure your animals will continue to receive Veterinary care during this time of crisis. Veterinary clinics have been deemed an ESSENTIAL SERVICE by our government. It is imperative that animals continue to receive veterinary care. We have stringent hygiene practices in place and we are structuring the appointments to minimise unnecessary contact between people. Thank you to everyone for taking this so seriously and helping us keep everyone safe.

11.01.2022 PPE! It won't come as any great surprise to you that there is a global shortage of PPE. In our every day life as vets and nurses, we use PPE for cases like Lepto in dogs, Parvo in dogs, and unwell horses that are not vaccinated against Hendra virus. ... Unlike COVID-19, we actually have vaccinations to help prevent these diseases in the first place. We have very limited stocks of PPE remaining, which means we are begging people to check where their animals are at with regards to the above vaccinations. In the coming days we could be faced with a situation where we have to stop treating some of these animals if it cannot be done in a safe manner for our staff and other patients. PLEASE, if your dog is due for its lepto or Parvo vaccination, or your horses is not yet vaccinated for Hendra, be mindful of what that could mean for your animal with regards to receiving optimal Veterinary care, should it get sick in the coming weeks. Thank you to everyone for being so understanding
