21.01.2022 Big ups to City of Belmont, WA for putting on an excellent Avon Descent Family Fun Day yesterday. It was exciting to see our landscape architecture and foreshore restoration works as the setting for so many of the days events!

20.01.2022 A little look back at our 2015 project for Murdoch University. We were engaged to provide Environmental Sustainability Design (ESD) and Landscape Design for the unis Production Animal and Multipurpose Teaching Facilities at Whitby Falls. Our proposed landscape response integrated site wide ESD opportunities. These included immediate solutions such as stormwater swales, solar arbors and on-site garden biofilters for wastewater treatment to offset irrigation requirements and enable higher water use species (like citrus trees) to be incorporated into the landscape without adding a water demand burden.

20.01.2022 Two snaps of our Victoria Gardens Reserve project for the City of Perth. Were lucky to have worked on so many beautiful sites along the Derbarl Yerrigan / Swan River over the years!

18.01.2022 Thomas Schwarten, one of Syrinx’s Associate Directors, gave a presentation a couple of weeks ago as part of the Australian Regional Development Conference #ARDC17 in Coffs Harbour. The presentation focused on the Lake Bolac Sewage Treatment Wetland and the multiple ways the project can be considered a success story for passive and sustainable waste water treatment and reuse. Read more about the project - including details of its 'treatment train', as well as its broader relevance to remote communities here: https://www.syrinx.net.au/lakebolac-ardc/

17.01.2022 One of Syrinxs Associate Directors - Thomas Schwarten - will be giving a presentation tomorrow as part of the #ARDC17 Australian Regional Development Conference. 15.01.2022 Day 3 of our week-long focus on WSUD projects features the #bioretention swales at #ElizabethQuay. Syrinx was engaged by the project engineers Wood and Grieve to investigate opportunities for incorporating #WSUD into the projects public realm. Well be at Elizabeth Quay later today as part of a walking tour that were co-hosting with the City of Perth for the 3rd #WaterSensitiveCities Conference.

14.01.2022 Burnie City Council has developed a state-of-the-art treatment wetland at the Burnie Waste Management Centre. Constructed on top of a rehabilitated landfill cell, the wetland treats the groundwater that seeps from the landfill, improving the quality of the water so that it can be safely released to the surrounding environment. The wetland comprises 14 treatment wetland ponds, a large infiltration wet forest and a total of 40,000 native plants, many of which were planted by members of the Burnie community. This aerial shot was taken back in April, a couple of months after commissioning. Stay tuned for more photos over the coming months!

14.01.2022 Despite the drizzling sky, we were delighted to join students of UWAs 3rd Year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Plants and Landscape Systems Unit on a wander around Wharf Street yesterday. Syrinx staff Rada and Kerry and the units coordinator Christina Nicholson took students on a tour of the project, paying particular attention to its vegetation. The project, which was completed in 2008, integrates best practice stormwater treatment with a broader understanding of the foreshore to create recreational and ecological links between the Canning River and the City of Canning. #wailafresh #landscapearchitecture #uwastudents #landarchau #landscapearchitecturestudent #australiannativeplants #stormwatertreatment

13.01.2022 The City of Canning is considering a proposal to put in a road through the Wharf Street wetlands. Heres a short article outlining our thoughts on this proposal - https://www.syrinx.net.au/wharf-street-wetlands-should-not/

11.01.2022 Heres the proposed Urban Stream running through Stirling City Centre for day 2 of our week-long feature on WSUD projects. Syrinx, in collaboration with PLACE Laboratory, prepared the Urban Design and Landscape Strategy for the future Stirling City Centre. A key focus was Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) to merge the built and natural environments.

09.01.2022 All this week, in the lead up to the 3rd Water Sensitive Cities Conference in Perth (18-20 July), were going to be posting photos of our WSUD projects. Heres Zone 1 of the Wetland at Point Fraser; a permanent pond with densely planted area that is one part of a three-part passive remediation system for urban stormwater. Located on the edge of the Swan River, at the south-eastern edge of the Perth CBD, the site is at the receiving point for stormwater runoff from an 18ha catchment. In addition to a myriad of recreational and educational elements, the design incorporates a series of innovative wetlands, vegetated swales and pervious pavements and walling to treat off-site and on-site stormwater before discharge to the Swan River.

08.01.2022 In just 4 weeks time, Syrinx will be co-hosting a walking tour of Water Sensitive Urban Designs in Perth as part of the 3rd Water Sensitive Cities Conference. The City of Perth is joining us as co-host. Running from July 18-20, the three-day conference will celebrate how water shapes our cities and towns into places that are more liveable, resilient, and sustainable. The walking tour focusing on water sensitive solutions in action is part of the conference program for Wednesday July 19. More details about both the conference and the walking tour can be found on the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities website: https://watersensitivecities.org.au/co/wsc-conference-2017/

07.01.2022 Coffee Creek, one of Syrinxs Tasmanian projects for Kingborough Council, benefited from National Tree Day late in July. Massive ups to all the green thumbs who helped out, and cheers to The Mercury Newspaper for capturing the day.

06.01.2022 An overview of sorts of some of our Perth Swan River projects. We've said it before and we'll probably say it again, but we're so chuffed to have had the opportunity to work on so many spectacular river sites over the years.

05.01.2022 Syrinx team members Mitch and Sue conducting monitoring of treated leachate at our Burnie Waste Management Centre Leachate Treatment project late last month. Constructed on top of a rehabilitated landfill cell, the wetland system treats an average of 490kL of landfill leachate per day. : Erica.

03.01.2022 New aerial shots of our Burnie Remediation project for the Burnie City Council. Photography by Evolution RPA - Remote Piloted Aircraft. The wetland system, infiltration forest and waterway now have over 70 locally endemic species, which has increased biodiversity values and created new fauna habitats. More details about the project can be read here: https://www.syrinx.net.au/portfolio/burnie/
