13.01.2022 Talami, 240 Blackburn Rd, Glen Waverley (ex Nyonya Hut or Smiles). Thanks to Elfrem Chan who introduced to me chef Tony Ngo (Vietnamese Chinese) who today intro...duced to me his better half, Li, from KL. So, there you go. Talami serves both Vietnamese cuisines and Malaysia tai chau (Stir fried noodles dishes). So, we ordered Pho. Our benchmark is Dzung at Springvale. It passed the test. Talami's broth has all the depth, fragrance and savoriness of a good Pho, imho, but it's a tad sweeter. Next, we ordered Pork Chop Broken Rice. Again, our benchmark is a few Vietnamese restaurants in Springvale, Richmond and Footscray. Again, it passed the test! The pork chop is succulent. Overall, happy with it's presentation, taste and portion. Finally, we ordered the irresistible - wat tan hor. When it came, we were delighted with it's presentation - see pic. So rich in condiments, the smooth and slippery egg sauce is a delight to look at. So wat. So hor! Taste wise, it has a slight twist to the benchmarks - Straits Cafe or Grand Tofu's....it's sauce either has fish sauce or oyster sauce in it..it's sweeter than those benchmark and with a shade darker. And it has a light wok hei, not too burnt. For dessert, we tried the papaya salad with pork and prawns. It tastes fresh, slightly sourish and refreshing! Love it with crushed peanuts and sweet chili sauce. Another winner! We asked Li, coming from Malaysia, what is her fav Malaysia dish cooked by Tony. She said, "Char Kueh Teow!". So, you can guess what I am going to try in my return trip which I reckon won't be long.
