25.01.2022 Today is Mates in Construction Fly the Flag Day, RUOK day and World Suicide Prevention Day. These days are worthwhile because they raise awareness of the massive pain families feel when a loved one takes there own life. Its also a great conversation starter with your children, having these conversations are difficult enough so we need all the help available so tomorrow night when you're having the family meal bring up RUOK day and get your family talking about. For anyone re...ading this who is not in a good place there are many places you can go for help and starting with a PM to me is a way to start getting some help. I am not an expert but I am someone to talk to. Remember to Talk to someone, Talk out Loud See more

21.01.2022 Awesome night last night at the Banksia Park High Trivia Night. Cannot thank Megan and Taylor enough for all of their hard work despite the pressures of year 12 and the global pandemic. The TOL Volunteers even beat the Board of Directors by 3 points to rank third overall! Thank you again for a valiant effort and for choosing Talk Out Loud as your preferred charity and thank you also to everyone in attendance. We're in this together

17.01.2022 RIP BRIDGETTE She taught me to keep my head, heels and standards high. She was the best confidant, foodie and always looked like she could step onto a catwalk. I am grateful for the time we were able to share together but I would give anything to annoy her for one more Christmas with too many decorations. We were on opposite ends of the Christmas spectrum - she was the Grinch and I was Buddy the Elf. It was our little thing that made the months leading up to Christmas that much more special and one of the things that always remind me of her. #RUOK - not just today We need to normalise speaking about, and getting help, for mental health. Just like you would go to the doctor for your physical health, make sure you go for mental health too! Remember, its ok not to be ok and to make sure you Talk Out Loud

13.01.2022 Absolutely inspiring! Thank you so much Emmah for talking to us last night despite everything going on at the moment. It was so empowering and I know your story touched everyone there. Thank you

12.01.2022 Steps 3 and 4 are crucial. It's what we do best here at TOL. It's not enough to ask the question. Let's become a society that truly cares about eachother

12.01.2022 That's a wrap for SING OUT LOUD for the year after the pandemic forced us to think of creative ways to change or initiate new activities with a focus on mental health. What started as a handful of people online under trying circumstances because, let's face it, how can you sing in unison online, has developed into a group of people united in song with new friendships forged. Thank you so much to Nina Vee for being such an amazing teacher and to everyone who attended over the past six months. Until next year

11.01.2022 My brother David took his life February 1st 2000. He's now been gone longer than we had him, but it still hurts everyday. He loved cars, was the joker of the family and we shared a love of rock music. I wish no one had to feel the only way out is to end their life. TALK OUT LOUD

11.01.2022 The TOL MIXED NETBALL team is ready to take on its opponents at Golden Grove after a month of training! Never too late to register your interest if you'd like to join at any stage. 09.01.2022 Please join us in wishing these amazing young humans well as they prepare for an action-packed weekend away at our first Youth Empowerment Camp for 2020. What a roller coaster ride it's been with the pandemic yet despite our disappointments over having to cancel all of our scheduled events, we've emerged stronger than ever and ready to tackle the next phase of our 'new normal'. The van is packed and in the morning these young lives will change other young lives for the better. All the best team, we know you're going to make a huge impact. See you soon!

06.01.2022 Hey guys, how are you? Nature is great, isn't it? The sound of birds chirping, the colour of the vibrant green leaves & the ducks waddling. Nature is a tool for the senses. 05.01.2022 I love how many life lessons are in kids movies. Here is a great video montage from @knowledge_media that really resonated with me. We hope you like it too

05.01.2022 Which one resonates with you the most?

04.01.2022 Ecstatic to announce that Emmah Money will be our extra special guest speaker at this weekend's Youth Empowerment Camp. 2020 Australian of the year, SA Local Hero, Emmah Money is an author, mother, motivational speaker and Cystic Fibrosis Advocate. Emmah lives with the life-threatening lung disease Cystic Fibrosis and knows firsthand the challenges that come with this debilitating invisible disease. We know you are going to be an inspirational role model to many young people on camp Emmah. You can find her on her social pages as CF MUMMY. Thank you Emmah

03.01.2022 Would LOVE to hear from a gym who'd like to help us run a 24hour mental health fundraising marathon with a twist. Spread the word!

03.01.2022 Due to a busy camp schedule Chat 'N' Chill will be cancelled this week but please ensure you book in for next week as usual

02.01.2022 When all the unpacking is done I promise to upload more photos and videos from our camp over the weekend. So grateful for any feedback but it's always a huge relief when that feedback is overwhelmingly positive so thank you. I did however want to acknowledge Jock from the City of Onkaparinga Pipe Band for surprising the campers on Sunday as they were preparing to say farewell. 'You're the Voice' by John Farnham perfectly encapsulates every Empowerment Camp that we run so wha...t better way to end the camp than to have the song performed live by someone whose heart is as big as the sound of the bagpipes! Unknown to any of the campers, Jock had been practising for weeks and even dropped in secretly the day before so we could rehearse the format in the carpark while our drumming session was in progress in the main hall so they couldn't hear him. I can't express in words how emotional the moment was for everyone when Jock walked into the room. The look on the young faces will be firmly imprinted in my memory forever. Jock also performed a selection of his favourite songs immediately afterwards and even shared his own story to a captivated audience. This moment was one of the highlights of the camp for me. My brother was going to become a music teacher and had played keyboard in his school band for years before he took his own life in yr 12. Music was and always will be a huge part of our message. This was not only for my brother but for every young person on camp - sing your song, make your voice be heard, find your purpose, be your authentic self and above all else never ever give up Our next camp won't be until early 2021 but message us here if you'd like more information Mary Founder/Director

02.01.2022 My little brother, how I miss you so. This photo was taken 6 months before he took his own life at the age of 16 just over 30 years ago. The unbearable pain he had been hiding became too much for him but the pain he left behind has never waned. You just learn to live with it and you vow to honour their death by helping others in the same situation. Love you, miss you Reach out if you're struggling. We're here and we care

01.01.2022 FOR KEALAN I try to not to let cynicism govern my soul. What I believe is that the taboo, the silence and the "oh this is too depressing so I'm turning away" is exactly what prevents broader understanding and education about the signs. To be open about this, I was ignorant. I had never heard of the Suicide Trance. To simplify, it's the subconscious resignation and decision that the person themself may not be able to articulate or even to understand and which is a massive re...d flag. There is often a voice inside telling them they need to die. I took his resignation to be increasing maturity. He had stopped hitting out and kicking back. I was blinded by ignorance. I look back and see he was making his apologies, his out-of-the-blue visits to relatives, tying up his loose ends. I didn't see that. I grabbed it as a sign we were finally getting somewhere. The self-harm. I never understood what it really meant until he told me at the end. I now think that his opening up about that was a "please help me mum" and I failed him. So tightly intertwined with suicidal risk is self-harm. That's the issue. We lack knowledge. Knowledge is power. Our services are being lavishly funded, yet they are failing in this. And what says it all is that almost every time I make a post about suicide or my son, my friends list numbers go down. We can't rely on services and "R U Ok?" sloganism. We, the everyday people are the ones who need to be there meaningfully. See more
