24.01.2022 Bushfire and road update: The Great Alpine Road is now CLOSED between Harrietville and Omeo, in addition to the closure at Bruthen/Ensay. Hotham resort is also ...CLOSED - there is no access for residents, visitors or the general public. Anyone stranded at Mount Hotham and able to safely do so, should take shelter at the Mount Hotham CFA at Big D. 23.01.2022 At Hotham, visitor safety is our top priority. Please read the messages below and share as appropriate. There is currently a Watch and Act notice in place for H...otham Heights. Emergency Services have advised us that due to fire activity in the vicinity, people planning to visit Mt Hotham over the next 48 hours should reconsider their plans due to poor air quality, the risk of increased fire activity, and the possibility of the Great Alpine Road closing. If you are at Mt Hotham, you should consider leaving now unless you have an urgent requirement to be here. Your safest point of departure is the Great Alpine Road down to Harrietville. Cyclists planning to ride from Harrietville to Hotham should reschedule their plans based on current conditions, given the poor air quality and also the potential for emergency services vehicles to need to use the road. Friday’s free guided bushwalk at Mt Hotham has been cancelled. DELWP have closed the Alpine National Park until further notice so no camping or hiking is permitted. 07.01.2022 UPCOMING ROAD CLOSURE: Regional Roads Victoria will be conducting road sealing works on a 1.4km section of the Great Alpine Road on Tuesday, March 17 and Tuesd...ay, March 24. The road between Hotham and Dinner Plain will be closed from 7am to 5pm on both days while these works are completed. If you planned on travelling between Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain on these dates, please plan around this closure, or perhaps stop and spend the night here. If you are coming from the Harrietville approach, check with The General for accommodation (03 5759 3523) or search summer accommodation on the Hotham website (https://www.mthotham.com.au//acc/accommodation/search-book) If you’re coming from the Omeo side, check the Omeo Region visitor information website or the Dinner Plain visitor information website for places to stay. Alternatively, motorists can use the Bogong High Plains Road through Falls Creek when the Great Alpine Road is closed. This is a significant detour and motorists should allow an extra 90 minutes travel time. These closures are weather dependent and could change without notice for up to the minute traffic information download the VicTraffic app or visit the VicTraffic website.
