25.01.2022 One of my favourite temperaments (or personality type) is the Koala Temperament. You need lots of time and patience to build a trusting relationship with a Koala, but often their calming influence is just what the other temperaments need in life. I LOVE my Koala-husband, he is the best thing that happened to me!

24.01.2022 One of my favourite temperaments (or personality types) is the Meerkat Temperament. We have to handle them with extra special care and tenderness, especially important for the Lion Temperament parents to know. It is often these people we have to thank for the beauty in the world in the form of art, poetry and music. ... Their other strong point is their attention to detail and ability to handle lots of data, analyse it and put it into a format that the rest of us can understand. Life will be a lot more chaotic without Meerkats!

24.01.2022 Today we celebrated the youngest member of this zoo's birthday. She didn't want anything elaborate, especially NO singing, NO birthday candles, NO fuss. Just a day out with a small group of friends. We had a lovely picnic in Kings Park, including treasure hunts, ball games and exploring. I'm sooooo glad I know enough about her temperament to know that I shouldn't insist on the elaborate, fancy birthday parties with lots of people, noise and attention. ... After all, it is her party, not mine. :-) Happy birthday, baby Meerkat!

22.01.2022 This is not always true in our household. I've had a few times waiting patiently to pick up my eldest from somewhere, just to be greeted with 'Where's Dad?'

22.01.2022 One of my favourite temperaments (or personality type) is the Lion Temperament. Parents of strong lion cubs don't have to guess their child's temperament - they just know!

17.01.2022 Some culture with my girls. WA Orchestra production 'The Nightingale'. Excited!

15.01.2022 So many possibilities when we read. I've tried to instil a love for reading in my girls since they were babies.

15.01.2022 Happy birthday, Queen Elizabeth Rex II How convenient that she always has her birthday on a Monday here in WA! :-) And with Spring, it is the ideal opportunity to start camping again. An opportunity to build strong family ties as we explore the bush in our own backyard this year. ... Yeah to camping! Yeah to family time! Yeah to kids running around in the Australian bush! Yeah to wildflower season! Yeah to the privilege of being a mum!

13.01.2022 This is my favourite, favourite part of this new adventure! If you want to find out more, I have a workshop on 24 Oct. Here is the link for more info: https://www.trybooking.com/BLKLZ

13.01.2022 According to https://www.brainpickings.org/20//14/einstein-fairy-tales/ the full story was published in November 1958: In the current New Mexico Library Bulletin, Elizabeth Margulis tells a story of a woman who was a personal friend of the late dean of scientists, Dr. Albert Einstein. Motivated partly by her admiration for him, she held hopes that her son might become a scientist. One day she asked Dr. Einstein’s advice about the kind of reading that would best prepare the ...child for this career. To her surprise, the scientist recommended ‘Fairy tales and more fairy tales.’ The mother protested that she was really serious about this and she wanted a serious answer; but Dr. Einstein persisted, adding that creative imagination is the essential element in the intellectual equipment of the true scientist, and that fairy tales are the childhood stimulus to this quality. So, let’s keep reading those fairy tales to the kids and let’s give them opportunity in their schedules to keep reading them as they get older. I’ll definitely make some reading time for the whole family in the upcoming summer holidays. What about you?

11.01.2022 Wow! Already showing so much character at such a young age. Imagine him as an adult.

10.01.2022 One of my favourite temperaments (or personality styles) is the Monkey Temperament. They are the talkers, the creative and innovative ones who can come up with the most amazing (and often outrageous) ideas and inventions. We have one in our zoo, and one is more than enough! :-)

09.01.2022 We are speeding towards the end of the year and with it comes so many extra stuff to do! Year-end-functions and concerts, Teachers Gifts, Christmas preparations and vacation planning. So, this is a timely reminder that you don’t have to do it all. Take a deep breath, decide what works for you and your family and say NO to everything else. It’s OK to say NO!... What are you saying NO to this Christmas season?

08.01.2022 The truth is, we can equip our children to become more mature and conscientious adults by teaching them to recognise and describe their own feelings, but also be able to recognise and describe the feelings of those around them. But how do we do that? And what does this picture have to do with it? Here is my take on it: https://tameyourzoo.com.au/how-to-teach-your-child-emotion/
