25.01.2022 Charging bull #3 If you move off the line of the attack at exactly the right time, you will be safe. This is a key component of most Kokikai Aikido techniques.

25.01.2022 When you drive past someone you know it's nice to wave, right? Even if it happens too quickly for them to notice?

20.01.2022 I'm in the process of getting classes up and running again. Not long now...

19.01.2022 If you put your hand out when falling backwards, you could easily break your wrist or arm. In Aikido we learn how to fall gracefully and without injury.

15.01.2022 Aikido. The noble art of falling over without spilling your drink.

15.01.2022 Adults class prices: Annual registration cost has been reduced for our dojo to $70 for 2020-21. Training cost is $15 per class or $30 per month. Active Kids vouchers can be used to pay for registration and a month of classes.

14.01.2022 In case you ever visit Berlin...

14.01.2022 When falling forwards (e.g. coming off a bike) a 'forwards roll' will protect your hands and head. In our classes we start small and gradually do higher and longer rolls.

09.01.2022 Keep one point to develop calmness.

05.01.2022 Charging bull #1 If you move off the line of attack too early, the charging bull still gets you.

03.01.2022 The only way to make sure a technique works... is by resisting it without everything you've got.

02.01.2022 Charging bull #2 If you move off the line too late, the bull will get you.

02.01.2022 An incomplete list of reasons to do aikido: - ability to defend yourself against stronger opponents - ability to defend yourself without hurting your attacker (and getting into trouble yourself) - ability to defend yourself without escalating the conflict - ability to prevent fights by detecting potential attackers early... - ability to prevent fights by not being a target - ability to handle non-violent conflicts more effectively and more calmly - physical health - mental health - good posture (good for staying healthy as we get older, also makes you more attractive) - confidence - better leadership skills - better productivity at work - enjoyment of learning something new - enjoyment of learning something challenging - enjoyment of continual growth regardless of age - consistent enjoyment from every class (you never lose) - positive physical contact (https://greatergood.berkeley.edu//why_physical_touch_matte) - regular positive social interactions - long-lasting friendships Personally my #1 reason is the great feeling I have after each class. Whatever the reason is, I feel good. When I went without training for a couple of years I just wasn't as content, which led to irritability. Aikido makes me a more positive person.

01.01.2022 Next week we will train on Monday at the usual time (kids 6pm, adults 7pm), rather than on Thursday. So our school holiday classes will be: Mon 28th Sep, Thu 8th Oct.
