21.01.2022 GUNIDA GUNYAH YOUTH PROGRAM HORSE RIDING Gunida Gunyah delivers a program for male Aboriginal youth as an extension of services of the Warranggal Dhiyan progr...am. The program is specifically for vulnerable youth including disengaged youth and/or youth who may be at risk of coming into contact with the justice system. Youth participants are supported through case management, peer group and positive social experiences and activities that provide opportunities for personal growth and development. Gunida Gunyah has recently engaged the services of Tamworth and Kootingal Horse Riding Adventures TKHRA to deliver an Agriculture & Equine Development Program to the youth participants one day a week for the duration of a school term. TKHRA’s goal for the program is to connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and disengaged youth using their horses to empower and inspire youth to connect with their emotions. During their time spent with TKHRA the youth will have an opportunity to have fun, challenge themselves, build skills to carry into the future, connect with peers, develop positive social skills, develop self-respect and respect for others, boost confidence and increase self-esteem, make mistakes and learn from them and understand the impact they have on people around them. The Agriculture & Equine Development Program has been well received by the youth who attend each week. We have had a lot of interest in the Agriculture & Equine Development Program but it is important to note that youth who participate in that particular program are required to commit to the Warranggal Dhiyan Youth program in its entirety and are not able to select portions of the program to participate in. Youth participants can be referred to the program by schools, services providers or by the family themselves. It is important to note that a referral to the program does not guarantee placement. Applications for entry into the program will be assessed by authorised staff at Gunida Gunyah. Any youth participants who are successfully accepted into the program will be notified in writing prior to placement. Placements are strictly limited and we do currently have a wait list. This program is being delivered by Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation directly. 06.01.2022 Week 5 of the Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation boy's coming out today we worked on team building completing saddling there own horse to obstacles on the horse setting up panel's mossie domes & lighting a fire with a fire flint boiling a billy. School attendance up 100% Confidence up 100% Horsemanship up 100% Respect for self and others up 100% Working as a team up 100% from week one to week five the changes we have seen in the boy's have been incredible we are extremely proud of you all.
