22.01.2022 How to Survive a Tax Office Audit: Ensure that your process for keeping records will help (not hurt) you in the event of an audit. An audit strikes terror into the hearts of many small business owners. The current economic climate has increased your chances of being audited. Audits can significantly drain business time and resources. If you take the time now to review your process for keeping records, it will go a long way towards minimizing your costs in the event of an au...dit (and it will help you sleep better, too). When you review your process for keeping sales records, look for the following: 1. Clear and complete information. Ledgers that the auditor might want to review include: Cash Books, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, paid bills, invoices, contracts and bank statements. 2. Easily accessible documentation. If you have the above documentation available or if it can be easily obtained upon request, the auditor will appreciate the cooperation and will require less of your and your staffs time. 3. Show the flow of each transaction. An auditor must be able to follow the trail of each transaction and match up all of the documents pertaining to each transaction. Watch for items like charge-backs or returns that you may not have adequately documented. First impressions matter! If the auditor sees that you can effectively show what they ask for, you will save money from penalties you might have otherwise incurred for incomplete or incorrect documentation. See more

The company had no income and he as an individual had 40,000 invoices issued he hadnt paid tax on yet. Long story short we him $9,500 in tax by buying the car in the right entity. A near miss there!
