25.01.2022 I'm committed to ensuring the health and safety of participants, their families and the wider community during this lockdown phase in SA. Over the next 6 days, services will be available online via zoom Although many were tentative (including me) last time, we had some surprisingly great outcomes through teletherapy!... Please contact me and I can send you some more information on how it all works! Stay safe everyone!

23.01.2022 Developing beat and rhythm is an important part of music therapy sessions particularly for children needing support with speech / language development! It also helps builds neural pathways necessary for learning to read! Isn't music amazing? :)

21.01.2022 July marks 30 Years of the Australian Journal of Music Therapy! Celebrating the inaugural edition of AJMT we take a look back to articles published in 1990 wit...h Dorothea Turnbull, Ellis Robinson's article into 'Music and movement as therapy for primary language and learning disordered children'. "If one subscribes to the view that development is an on-going interaction of interdependent functioning then music and movement therapy can be seen to have a very important contribution to make to intervention with these children." 16.01.2022 One unexpected outcome from COVID is discovering that tele-health can be a fantastic platform for music therapy for children who have challenges with focus / attention and engagement. By reducing the distraction of a music 'space', the online format increased interaction and engagement during sessions! Although not for everyone, for some, it proved so effective that online sessions have been incorporated into their music therapy program on an ongoing basis. Music Therapists work flexibly to create the best outcome for your child :)

14.01.2022 There just so many benefits to kids participating in music-making regardless of ability!

11.01.2022 "learning to play an instrument may be good for the brain. Musically trained children perform better at attention and memory recall and have greater activation in brain regions related to attention control and auditory encoding, executive functions known to be associated with improved reading, higher resilience, greater creativity, and a better quality of life."

08.01.2022 We often use the garage band app with older children / young people when working on social & communication skills. By writing songs collaboratively, we are engaging in a shared experience that helps young people learn that working ‘together’ can be fun and sometimes result in a better outcome than just working alone. Having said that, here is a great tutorial on using garage band @home.

02.01.2022 Please be aware of the new ‘independent’ assessments for NDIS participants. There will be nothing ‘independent’ about the person who replaces you in making decisions regarding you or your child’s disability. There will be nothing ‘independent’ about the person who sits in an office and decides what supports you or your child need instead of the therapists who actually know you. This will further shift the power from those with disabilities (and their carers) who have a human right to choice and control...back to a government body defined by its own (financial) interests. If anyone has ever had negative experiences with planners with NO background / experience in disability this will be significantly worse.

01.01.2022 This isn’t just cardio desk drumming! It’s motor planning, body / spatial awareness, coordination, auditory and visual processing with some sequential processing thrown in....Not to mention that rhythm is awesome for self-regulation!
