19.01.2022 Dear Home educating families, Organisation of TryaSkill Tasmania 2014 is underway and we would like to invite interested home educated students in Grades 8 to 10 to register their interest in attending an activity day. These are held in Burnie - May 21; Hobart - June 11; and Launceston - June 25. TryaSkill is a career development program that provides an opportunity for students to try their hand at three skilled activities during their visit to the activity centre and to ...have the chance to talk with key individuals from business or training organisations in their interest areas. There is a fee of $5 a student to attend TryaSkilll. 18.01.2022 The Home Ed Winter Readathon is an annual readathon for home ed students and parents raising funds for aid agency TEAR Australia (tear.org.au) and is in its ninth year in 2016. Last year raised $1,332.80. Registrations for 2016 are now open! 16.01.2022 Dear Home Educators, Registrations for the ninth annual Tasmanian Premiers Reading Challenge open on 30 March 2016. The Challenge is an important Tasmanian government program that supports prep to grade six students... to develop their reading and literacy skills. In 2016 the Premiers Reading Challenge will run for 10 weeks during terms two and three, from 14 June to 23 August. This includes the July school holidays, providing students with an opportunity to maintain their reading over the winter break. Students are required to read one book each week of the Challenge. They are also encouraged to set their own personal reading goals to reach a higher level if they wish. The Premiers Reading Challenge aims to: Inspire children and young people to love books and reading Raise parent and community awareness about how important reading is as a life skill Encourage families and parents to read with their children every day Participating is easy to find out more and to register your school visit the 2016 Premiers Reading Challenge website www.premiersreadingchallenge.tas.gov.au Register by Friday 13 May.

14.01.2022 The Summer Reading Club (SRC) is an annual reading program that runs from 1 December 2014 to 31 January 2015 and aims to keep kids engaged with books and reading through the long summer break. It is run online and through libraries Australia wide, which of course includes LINCs and libraries around Tasmania. The program has a dedicated website with competitions, author blogs and games and fun rewards and prizes to win. Most LINCs and libraries will also run holiday activitie...s that tie in with the SRC. The theme for this summer is Adventure and online registrations open on 1 December 2014, kids that register online have the chance to win an iPod. The survey link has been emailed to all Tasmanian home educators and posted to those who receive correspondence by post. Please take the time to complete the survey and have your say. THEAC is seeking expressions of interest for a home educator nominated position representing the North or North East on the Tasmanian Home Education Advisory Council. This position is to commence in August 2016. Council members review HESPs, Monitoring Reports and make recommendations to the Minister regarding registration of Home Educators as well as influencing policy and standards for THEAC. 04.01.2022 The following will be advertised in The Mercury, The Examiner and The Advocate on Saturday 11 February 2017 Expression of Interest Member, Tasmanian Home Education Advisory Council The Minister for Education and Training is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who wish to be considered for appointment as a member of the Tasmanian Home Education Advisory Council.... Persons wishing to submit an expression of interest should include details of relevant personal experience or skills in home education or education generally. Applicants are encouraged to provide a short statement addressing each of the following: - Background in home education, work experience and/or interests; - Experience in home education; - Statement of beliefs regarding home education; - Views on the future of home education in Tasmania; - Statement of what you can offer as a THEAC member; and - Names and contact details of at least two referees.
