18.01.2022 UPPER NATONE TRIAL - 16 August. Here are some photos of the terrain we will be riding at Upper Natone in the next trial. The section setting will be on Saturday 15 Aug (the day before). The rocks are quite grippy and the soil around the also initially grippy, but it could change with many bikes riding the same line...... The pits will be on the side road, plenty of room to park there on the side of the road. ... There is a map in the newsletter and also on the tastrials.org.au website calendar. Ps it is close to the Secret Beta Testing Facility ssssssh dont tell anyone. See you there!

07.01.2022 TMTC TRAINING DAY - Mt Joy A lot of coaching and learning happened during our training day at Mt Joy today. Thanks to the Bayles family for making their property available for this training. We kicked off at 11:00am with the basics of bike setup and training on slow tight corners. This led to learning how to slip the clutch and control the speed of the bike with the back brake. The Juniors did circles and then a slalom around 4 blocks of wood spaced in a line, with a 180 d...egree turn at the end. This taught them to lift up thrir eyes and to look where they wanted the bike to go towards. Some Fredo Frogs were distributed for good work and improvement. We then had a BBQ lunch on Chris Bayles front porch. After lunch we went to a rocky bank to practice using our improved turning skills to get our bikes around a section, line up a rock and then attempt to ride over it from a good take off point that our good turning skills now allowed. Other tips passed on were - having a finger on the clutch and front brake at ALL times. It gives you full control and makes it possible to stop the bike careering out of control. All you need to do to stop any unintended bike movements is pull the clutch in ........ it is your final control, if you start to get out of control. - having your feet 3 to 4cm away from the side of the bike, to allow you yo lean the bike into the corners. Also allows the bike to move under the rider without changing the riders centre of balance. - lead the bike into corners to make a tighter turn. Always stand upright in slow turns. Dont lean into the corner yourself, if either wheel slips you will have to dab a foot. If you stay upright and only lean the bike, the tyes are less likely to slip and even if they do, you have a good chance of staying feet up. - figure 8s are a good way of practicing all these new skills. On the flat and once mastered, put yhe figure 8 on a slope. All those who attended improved noticeably during the day, if they keep practicing these skills they will be onesctonwatch at the next trial. We

05.01.2022 A successful return to Trials in Tassie on the weekend in this Covid-19 period. Thanks to everyone for following the social distancing / parking / hand hygiene / self scrutinizing / self scrutineering. Tas Police dropped in and were happy with our setup and compliance to our Covid Safe Plan. This is important for our future permit applications!... It was a little different to our old setup - but it worked well and is now the new normal. It did not stop us having a good ride and a successful event. Congrats to Ken Hosking and his section setting team on a well run trial. See you all at Upper Natone! Ian Pickering
