19.01.2022 Can anyone shed some light on these two photos, apparently of an early SES SAR training activity...a few familiar, but younger looking faces!

19.01.2022 Another quiz for our current members. I'm sure the older members will be familiar with this piece of old equipment

12.01.2022 Stumbled across an old article from the Advocate (Tue 19 August 1941) with an interesting quote from the Director of Civil Defence, Mr G.A. Walch (who happens to be the great uncle of the current Director SES): "I wish to impress upon you that you owe to yourself, your family and your country to be prepared for an emergency. All the work the Civil Defence Legion has accomplished, all the plans that have been made, will prove of little avail if the ordinary citizen should fai...l to play his part... The head of every household has a serious duty devolving to protect his family along the lines recommended by the Civil Defence Legion. There must be no ignorance on the part of any citizen of what is being done and of what is to be done when the time comes, if it should come." While the focus at the time was on the threat of aerial bombing, I can't help seeing some similarities with more modern messages linked with the current National Strategy for Disaster Resilence: "Disaster resilience is based on individuals taking their share of responsibility for preventing, preparing for, responding to and recovering from disasters. They can do this by drawing on guidance, resources and policies of government and other sources..."

11.01.2022 Does anyone know the history of this old truck? I believe it was with us when the Civil Defence and Emergency Services organisation became SES in 1976, where it then served the Clarence SES Unit.

04.01.2022 Tasmania SES has embarked on an exciting history project. We hark back to 1939 when we were the Civil Defense Organisation. In 1976, we became the State Emergency Service. Through our project, we welcome past and present volunteers and staff to contribute stories/anecdotes, trinkets, pictures, facts and figures. We also ask family members of members of the public who have had experience with SES to contribute. but we would welcome any information from others who can contrib...ute, eg, family members, or members of the public who have had experiences with SES. All historic information provided on this site will be used to support the research and writing of the history of the SES and the Civil Defence Organisation. If you or anyone you know can contribute, we would love to hear from you! https://www.facebook.com/tasseshistory/
