19.01.2022 In response to the COVID 19 health emergency, Taste of the Himalayas have been looking at all options available and listening to health professionals and Government requirements as does every business at this time. We want to make sure we are doing the best we can and support your healthcare needs and that of our staff during this time of health crisis. We have remained open and put in place hand hygiene sanitisers for our guests to use including our staff and are now opting ...for EFT only to be used for payment and as always operate the highest hygiene standards that are required at this time. Under Government requirements now advised we will only operate under 25 customers and put in place the 2 metre rule for social gatherings for today Saturday 21st March and Sunday and are happy to arrange the restaurant to suit this requirement but again reviewing when new guidelines are issued. Due to not only the health crises but also lack of business which again is affecting everyone and every business throughout Australia, we are looking at continuing as Take Away only as many restaurants and cafes are considering no inside dining. Taste of the Himalayas will be looking at changing to Take Away only from Tues 24th March and will review weekly due to business needs. All functions and Himalayan Buffets will be ceased until furhter notice. Taste of the Himalayas will be back to restaurant dining as soon as everything is back to normal as we will miss not seeing you and being part of your busy and beautiful community in Brighton. Everyone is going through the same crises, sadness and worry throughout the world and we are all not alone. Taste of the Himalayas wish you all well, stay safe and come back and see us soon. From Owner/Head Chef Dharma, Restaurant Manager Swarnim and all our wonderful staff. See more

09.01.2022 Our Weekly Wednesday Fact about Nepali Cuisine Nepalese dishes are generally healthier than most other South Asian cuisine, relying less on using fats and more on chunky vegetables, lean meats, pickled ingredients and salads. The national dish is Dal-bhat-tarkari, which means dal (lentils), bhat (rice), and a tarkari (vegetable). Many Nepali families eat it daily. A typical meal could be a green salad (cucumber and carrot), rice, mustard greens, potatoes, chicken gravy, gh...ee, black lentils and mutton curry (lamb or goat). Common ingredients found across Nepalese cuisine include lentils, potatoes (which are particularly popular within the Newar communities in the Himalayas and Pahar region), tomatoes, cumin, coriander, chillies, peppers, garlic and mustard oil. Gorkhali Lamb is a must-try while you are travelling in Nepal. The slow-cooked succulent pieces of meat lamb are immersed in chunky curry alongside wedges of potatoes and roughly chopped onions. Enjoy trying our Gorkhali Lamb on our Sunday Buffet this weekend.

07.01.2022 Taste of the Himalayas shares interesting facts about Nepal. We hope you enjoy. The Himalayas are the worlds third largest depository of snow and ice (after the two polar regions), with around 15,000 glaciers containing about 3,000 cubic miles of water. The Himalayas are home to the highest lake on earth (Tilicho at 4,800 meters/3 miles) and the deepest lake on earth (Shey Phoksundo)... Nepal is geologically alive. The Indo Australian plate under Nepal is still moving and will travel 1,500 kilometers (932 miles) into Asia in the next 10 million years. In terms of biodiversity, Nepal is one of the richest countries in the world. It is rightfully called Amazon of Asia as it is a home for the variety of unique species of Flora and Fauna. Nepal has more than 900 species of birds, which accounts to 8.9% of the total species of birds all around the world. It has 4.2 % of the worlds butterfly species and 3.96 percent of the worlds mammal species. With almost 870 different species of birds, Nepal has more than the continents of North Africa and Europe combined. They are home to eight percent of the bird species of the world. Nepal is also home to over 650 different species of butterflies as well as the worlds largest moth (the Atlas moth) and some of its largest wild honeybees. The Yeti is said to live and has been spotted in the Himalayas in Nepal. It is a mysterious creature akin to North Americas Big Foot and has been reported by many who have hiked secluded paths in these mountains. Sir Edmund Hillary himself led a 1958 expedition to find the Yeti, with no success.
