25.01.2022 A big freaking hallelujah from the beach! Never in my entire life have I needed a holiday as much as Ive needed this one. Cheers to all the unsung heroes of CoVID - the kick-arse accountants + bean counters who are out there giving a shit about their clients! The ones who have kept this economy running at the expense of their own practices and who have worked 7 days a week since whenever the heck this all started. For keeping food on the tables for the employees of their b...Continue reading

23.01.2022 Asking for a friend....but are we able to blame online shopping on Covid too? But seriously [and we are finding ourselves guilty of this too] the online shopping biz is getting a bit out of control here so it might be the same for you aswell! We find that shopping + spending is all in a mindset. If you can train your brain to always say "Do I actually need it" then you will find that 9 times out of 10, the answer is probably no. Weve had clients tell us that they call i...t the Taxchic Effect when they go shopping after seeing me for financial planning....because all they can hear when looking at new and shiny things is "Do you REALLY need that"??? As far as Im concerned - my work here is done! *dusts off hands!* Spending and online shopping is a habit that takes time to break but you will find that your spending will change for the better and your bank balance will thank you for it! Remember this mind map when you are next shopping online and ask yourself if you REALLY need it. Youve got this!!

21.01.2022 If you have a bit of spare time on your hands at the moment, its a great time to really dissect your finances and stop any payments or fees that are unnecessary. Here are a few tips for you - 1. ATM fees can cost you up to $50 per year if you dont really keep an eye on it. Best bet - sign up with a bank that doesnt even charge you ATM fees no matter where you withdraw your money. Also, withdraw your cash from supermarkets or petrol stations without worrying about gett...ing whacked with a fee from your bank. 2. If you are paying for extra data because you go over every month - ring your phone company NOW (I know, its a pain in the arse!) and change your plan! The cost of a new plan versus the cost of paying a small fortune per gig is well worth it! 3. Check your bank fees - and close any accounts that you actually arent using! You dont need 42 accounts for each and every possible saving that you are doing. Better yet, sign up with a bank that has ZERO fees, it can save you hundreds a year.

21.01.2022 Youre welcome! #getgoodadvice #teamtaxchic

21.01.2022 WHAT ON EARTH IS LOSS CARRY-BACK TAX OFFSET? That is exactly what I said as I filled up my glass so let me break it down for you. It is great news for businesses as ScoMo allows companies to offset current losses incurred due to COVID downturn or investment in assets against prior year profits! What, clear as mud?! Okay, I’m refilling my glass again and will have another crack at putting that into plain English... Take two Losses incurred in the 2020FY, 2021FY and/or 2022FY can be used to carry back against previous profits made in the 2019FY or after. Still not following? Okay, let me try an example: - Let’s say in 2019FY you make a profit and paid tax of $60k. - In the 2020FY, due to COVID you run your business at a loss of $110k. Naturally you didn’t have a tax bill. - In the 2021FY, you make another loss of $90k. - When we lodge your 2021FY tax return, we will be able to claim the $200k of losses which would result in a refund of $60k in tax previously paid. Righteo, I really did have a good red hot go at explaining what this is and what it means financially it but this might be the point that I suggest you make sure you have a bloody good Accountant in your corner who is all over all this stuff. If you need a hand, give us a yell. x #Budget2020

20.01.2022 The downwards slope to 30 June is fast approaching [is it really only 20 days away?] and we are all about the little guys here at Taxchic HQ. The team are madly working + strategising to achieve fantastic results for our small business clients for their tax planning ensuring they keep every last of their hard earned cash! We believe that a tax saving for a small business is a huge win in any given year...but this year, when it feels like we are in Level 7 of a cruel game of... Jumanji, its absolutely crucial. "How much can a small business actually save in Tax Planning" you ask? Results we have seen for our clients this year are varying anywhere from $4,000 to between $13 - $25,000 and some businesses are even achieving $67,000 and more in tax savings. #nopethatsnotatypo So, please dont ever think just because you are a small business that you cant benefit from tax planning or decent advice from your accountant. You, your family and your business deserves it. #taxplanningseason #thecountdownto30June #taxchicHQ

19.01.2022 And exhale.....The ATO have extended the $150,000 asset write off for another 6 months. What does this mean? You dont have to go crazy purchasing your assets before 30 June especially after a rough few months. As always, if you have any questions - just shout out! We are here to help! ... #teamtaxchic #30Junemadness

18.01.2022 It’s been a bit quiet from Taxchic HQ over the last few months as we tackle huge workloads and focus on providing all of our incredible clients with great results and outcomes with their tax positions. While we love to share our weird sense of humour [yes people, accountants can be funny ] and wisdom on the socials, we have been focusing our energy on getting all our work done prior to the Christmas break! So many of you have noticed our absence but we’re here and hiding b...ehind our calculators! 2020 has been....without sounding cliche....there are just simply no words. Our team has worked harder than ever before, adapting to WFH [can we never do that again please!], constantly evolving with the thousand changes with JobKeeper and welcoming so many new clients to the Taxchic family. We are thrilled to announce that we are at full capacity and while it’s sad, it’s also exciting to announce that we can’t take on any new clients for the next few months. This ensures that our current clients receive the very best from us and we are always doing what we preach which is providing supreme service and advice. So a huge thank you from us all here for your incredible support during 2020! We can’t wait to continue to provide you with more advice, tips, tricks and a rogue joke here or there in 2021 after a well-deserved break! Cheers, Vanessa + Kym x PS. Here is the team celebrating surviving 2020 at Greca last week! It’s the first time in over a year that all the teams got to see each other without a Zoom and it was superb to spoil our great team that we love so much. X

18.01.2022 Clients are loving the online tax returns and how easy it is to do over the phone, so if youve been nervous about not sitting in front of us, please be assured we are still giving you the love and attention, and well just pick up the phone to make sure weve explored every option for you. If its a strategy session with Vanessa and she really wants to see you face to face because its tricky, just book your phone meeting online and well be in touch to change it and make a...rrangements that meet social distancing guidelines. So even though we have COVID numbers under control here in Qld, given the ongoing risk and NSW cases starting to creep closer to the border, wed love to encourage our clients for phone meetings or zooms, if we can. If youve already got a face to face appointment booked, were happy to honour it of course. We also really appreciate the flexibility from everyone who has been happy to just drop all their stuff off to one of our offices, leaving it with us too. Its new this online world for many, I know some of you have loved not having to attend an appointment but for those a little more nervous, give it a whirl, were here to help you through it and together well get the job done. A huge thanks to all our clients for your endless support and understanding with this! Zoom and phone meetings are our preference for now but we sure hope in 2021 to never see a zoom session EVER again....like ever. #newunifromuggs #bitfresh #thanksteam

17.01.2022 One lesson we should all take from this COVID thing is that we can and should be way more frugal with our money. You and I both know that most are living beyond their means on a day to day basis. Financial security is not to be taken for granted and will actually help you sleep at night. Never has that ever been more evident. Dont let these lessons be lost on you. #supportsmallbusiness #frugalAF #sleeplikeababy

17.01.2022 Following up from my shop small post the other day, I have to share this FREAKING AMAZING CAKE that Narelle from Batsys made for Mias birthday. We are Bluey mad here and Mia went nuts for this gorgeous cake made with so much love. The talented and gorgeous business owners here in Gundi never cease to amaze me and the way you have all tackled the past few months is to be commended. Heres to brighter days ahead with the reopening of the economy and on the bad days, always remember to eat the cake.

17.01.2022 EMAIL IS DOWN! We have broken our server with the EOFY madness and your incredible response to our Fast + Furious tax returns for 2020. Our email has been down and we are waiting for our computer gurus to let us know today when it will all be back up. So bear with us and we will be in contact soon!

16.01.2022 Its official - our clients are better than yours! Especially when they leave packages of goodness at your front door like this. #theydidntlastmorethan5minutes We bloody love our clients, their families and we especially love working with them to achieve some massive life goals in their business [thats our favourite bit!] so the choc-dipped strawberries [and lasagna, salad, homemade jam!] are just the icing on the cake! #ourclientsarethebest

16.01.2022 You, Me + The Budget! See you here at 7.30pm for rolling updates on what I *really* think of the Budget and exactly what was hiding in Frydenberg's Budget Briefcase. With Australia in a recession and the budget being delayed from May...this might be one you don't wanna miss.

16.01.2022 GIVE US YOUR OPINION! 2020 Tax Season is shaping up to be massive and you are all very eager to get your appointments booked with us for July! With everything that has happened over the past few months, the real question we are asking you is...."Do you actually wanna SEE us this year?" or would you prefer to embrace this wild + wonderful virtual world? ... We are finalising a new virtual online tax experience where you book your appointment, upload your documents, chat to us [via phone, telephone or zoom!] and even sign your tax return virtually without actually having to get out of your PJs. #isolife Or....would you prefer to have a good ol fashioned "face-to-face" meeting with one of the team? So PLEASE VOTE! We would love to know your opinion so let us know your thoughts in our fancy poll below!

16.01.2022 Kids and Parents are fragile. Teachers, health workers, police - everyone on the frontline is exhausted. International relations are delicate. Businesses are really struggling at present. Our global community is beyond fragile. ... The economy is currently broken and everyone is feeling the pressure. CoVID is taking its toll. Kindness, compassion and the courage to speak is what is needed right now I think. Are you okay? Love, Taxchic. x

15.01.2022 INSTANT ASSET WRITE OFF Under normal business conditions, this would be something to write home about but this year is anything but normal. ANY ASSET purchased from 7.30pm tonight 6th October until 30 June 2022 can be written off IN FULL. ... No longer is there a $150k cap and you can now depreciate the entire amount instantly. That equals some massive and huge tax deductions for many businesses but especially our big businesses and farmers who need to and are in a position to update their gear and equipment. The problem with this measure is that you have to spend money to benefit from the tax savings. Yes there will be a lot of tax saved but for many of our farmers who could benefit from this, there simply isn’t the funds to invest in big ticket items after enduring years of drought. #Budget2020

14.01.2022 Is 2020 over yet?

14.01.2022 TAX CUTS TAX CUTS TAX CUTS Who doesn’t love tax cuts but to be honest this measure is a bit weird ‘cause the people who are getting the biggest tax cuts likely aren’t going to put the money back into the economy, they’re going to bank it. But anyway, let me give you some examples of the tax savings you can expect: Jane earns $50k and will save $2160 = $83.07 per fortnight... Jo earns $80k and will save $2160 = $83.07 per fortnight John earns $100k and will save $2445 = $94.08 per fortnight Billy earns $120k and will save $2745 = $105.57 per fortnight Bob earns $150k, and will save $2565 = $98.65 per fortnight Gertrude earns $180k, and will save $2565 = $98.65 per fortnight PLUS - The Current Low Income Offsets will continue too (that the $1080 offset thingo) and our mate Josh and his Bestie ScoMo are backdating these tax cuts to 1st July, aren’t they kind! #Budget2020

13.01.2022 The question on everyones lips this season is "Will I get the $1,080 tax offset?". Maybe. Maybe Not. This offset is for any low + middle income earners who have an income between $37,001 and $126k. You will receive some or all of this $1,080 depending on your income with the minimum offset payment being $255. Nothing special needs to be done to receive this payment and it will be automatically calculated with your return! Any questions - leave them in the comments below and we will be happy to help! x

11.01.2022 Let's talk STD's.....now don't choke on your coffee. *There will be no bees or birds in this conversation* What needs to be discussed here is sexually transmitted DEBT and how you can avoid it. Let's set out the scene here....so you are in a new relationship, have had a few dates, a smooch or two, and decide to take the next step.yet you don’t really know this person or their history..so you decide to protect yourself. *Insert Home Alone OMG face here* Yep, we said it -... PROTECT YOURSELF. It’s not rocket science and it’s something that has been drilled into us since the days of the awkward Sex Ed high school classes. The thing that we didn’t get taught in high-school is how to prevent another kind of STD - Sexually Transmitted DEBT..and how this is crippling way too many people in our society. Now I'm not saying that because your partner has a dismal credit rating and comes with a little baggage and perhaps a personal loan that he isn't a catch BUT trust me when I tell you that you need to hold onto your finances and your credit rating like your life depends on it (well it kinda does). Don't let go until you can confidently say that you have completed the top 5 tips with absolute confidence. The horror stories are true and even though you think this person is the love of your life with all the heart eye emojis, you need to ensure you're both on the same page when it comes to cash. Just like you would with kids and well, everything else that you vett them for in the first little bit to ensure that your hard earned cash, credit reputation and assets are protected! until you have given this person the full scan of nastieshold onto your finances tight.....just like you would with an actual STD. I'm not saying they aren't the one [we are all believers in love here at Taxchic HQ!] but let's go in with our eyes open! Like WIDE open. I provide one-on-one confidential advice for any kind of situation like this where you need a professional opinion before you open that joint account and end up with a debt that actually wasn’t yours in the first place! Protect yourself! x

Kym + Vanessa are the powerhouse duo behind Taxchic and proud work-wives and business partners. A mum to 2 gorgeous kiddos, Kym is an adrenalin junkie by the weekend and typical bean counter by weekday with a love of excel spreadsheets that has no healthy boundaries whatsoever! Fun fact is that while Kym is a city slicker who has actually never visited Vanessa in the wild-west of Gundi...she grew up in FN Qld on a sugar cane farm. Who woulda thought right! So here is the face to the name of our incredible Kym - the person who is the glue that keeps this rockshow together! Everyone say hiiiiiiii

09.01.2022 CRAZY IDEAS FOR THE WIN! We absolutely love our clients - especially when they love our crazy and sometimes left-fielded ideas that will help them achieve financial freedom. They came to us a few years ago for business accounting, got more than they bargained for with Vanessa AND now they have just paid off their mortgage and are owners to an incredibly successful business. Sometimes we feel like we should be the ones saying Thank You for trusting us on this journey as w...e absolutely love watching our clients succeed! We cant wait to see what the next 5 years has waiting for you! #financialfreedom #ourclientsarebetterthanyours #teamtaxchic #financialplanning

08.01.2022 Lets talk straight business here and admit that this covid rockshow doesnt appear to be going anywhere soon. So...the big question is....are your finances covid-safe too in the event that this virus comes knocking on your door in the form of being made redundant or being laid off. The way to answer that is just a simple yes or no. It cant be the answer "yep - if we sell the boat + re-mortgage the home". It has to be lockdown safe and here are a few ways you can make s...ure that you are ready. 1. CREATE A SHITSTORM BANK ACCOUNT The correct word for this bank account should be "Contingency" but *shitstorm* just has a way better ring to it we feel. [hello 2020]. This bank account should have between 3-6 months worth of your wages stored safely. Yep - its a lot of money - but in the event that you find yourself unemployed, it will give you a bit of breathing space to pay your bills while you find a new job. Yes, it can and should be sitting in your offset account on your mortgage but only if you dont touch it. No mortgage yet, no problems - this account is probably called your house deposit account. 2. GIVE YOUR BUDGET A MAKEOVER I think we all agree here that this pandemic is no normal situation so we need to prepare for it and better late than never. Your main financial goal in this whole shizzo is to be able to confidently cover your essential expenses [without your credit card - you dont need any more debt!] and this is your top priority. If you find yourself not being able to do that, you need to give your budget a shakeup. Re-evaluate and find new ways to conserve cash. Working from home? Put your fuel money in your shitstorm account. Not drinking a coffee a day? Save that money. Not going on your annual trip away? Save it. Not paying a small fortune on your kids sports? You guessed it - save those dollars. You wouldnt have found that money to pay for those things, so give your savings the same priority. Just these few things will give you so much peace of mind in an otherwise really stressful world we live in at the moment. Trust us and go and get your finances sorted.

07.01.2022 Changes to Job Keeper are coming in fast and we are already up to version 3.0 without even being able to process 2.0! We have created this great resource for all of our Keeper clients to keep a finger on the pulse with all the latest changes coming out from the ATO. In a nutshell, heres the top three (hopefully in plain english as best we can)... 1. Job Keeper will cease in September unless businesses re-test and meets eligibility. Generally this means you will need to show a 30% downturn in actuals for the September Quarter measured against same time previous year. So, yes you need to re-test to keep getting Job Keeper and youll need to re-test and qualify to keep getting it the following quarter too. Figures are based on actuals now, so no more guessing! 2. The payments will reduce from $1500 a fortnight and will depend on the number of hours your employees work. So, for most it will drop from $1500 down to $1200 then to $1000 if working over 20 hours per week. Working under 20 hours per week, it will go from $1500 down to $750 and then to $650. See below for dates and deets. We actually think these measures are spot on and will prevent the windfall factor saving many business owners a lot of grief. TAXCHIC reckons that is still a bucket load of money for so many businesses that Scomo is handing out and we should all be doubling down on our planning now to make sure our business is viable and in the best possible position when the tap is turned off. 3. You can now register new staff from 1 July 2020 so if you had a staff member start just after 1 March and miss out, they may now be eligible. Laymans terms, new employees may now be eligible. We anticipate there to be a gazillion changes just like JobKeeper 1.0 so we will keep you up to date as they come out! For all our Taxchic Job Keeper clients, well get in touch in October to see how everything is going and to discuss your eligibility and whats next. Yes, all this stuff can be tricky and we know sometimes its not that simple so please reach out, were only too happy to help. #jobkeeper #taxchic #covid19 #corona

07.01.2022 Are you the Minister of War + Finance in your relationship? So much though that your partner doesnt even know how to make a simple transfer between accounts? Well, you need to stop. Studies [before Covid19] are showing that couples who dont work together as a team for their financial portfolio are at risk of experiencing trouble in paradise. Sadly, it is something I see it often in my job as a financial planner and something that I am extremely passionate to stomp out... before the scratch becomes a wound. *Enter Covid* and everything is magnified. The stress is through the roof, the dollars are more precious than anything and financial stability is like winning the lotto. When a couple come to see me for a Financial Planning Pow-Wow, I never agree to see one without the other. I have a strict rule of full transparency as there is absolutely no way you are going to smash goals without both of you wanting to smash those goals together. Now dont get me wrong, I fully appreciate that one of you is in charge of paying the bills and making sure there is enough money for food.but Im talking more about when only one of you have access to accounts, or there are hidden credit cards or worst yet, there is debt that your partner doesnt know about. If you are wanting to live your best life and achieve financial freedom, you NEED to do these few steps TOGETHER to get started on the right path! Financial Planning is ALWAYS important but so is being on the SAME team. Trust me - you wont ever regret smashing life TOGETHER.

07.01.2022 Interrupting our radio silence to say a quick hello! Today is the last day for Job Keeper Applications *hallelujah* and we are deep into Tax Planning for our clients. Even with being incredibly busy (and maybe totally sleep deprived!), there is nothing better than achieving incredible results for our clients on the back of a really tough year with both the drought and covid19. So here is a massive virtual high five to the team behind Taxchic that have smashed some massiv...e goals over the past few months. The hard work we have put it has truly changed the lives of so many people, businesses and families - when they thought all hope was lost. Happy Weekend Yall!

07.01.2022 When you’re all set to watch the budget, only to quickly realise that daylight savings has kicked in and I bloody missed it! This whole Budget in Spring thing is messing with me. Sooo I’ve currently got my nose buried deep in the re-run of watching a very sombre Josh announce his budget. I will translate all the announcements into plain English for you and the good news is that I reckon this budget is built for businesses! After a year like 2020, even with the huge debt, some wins for businesses is definitely welcome. Watch this space....

06.01.2022 JOB SAY WHAT NOW?! Scotty from Marketing is at it again. Anyone else feel like it’s time for these guys to take a break? JOBMAKER is an incentive to hire employees aged 16-35 year currently on JobSeeker. They won’t be hard to find either ‘cause it feels like every man and his dog seems to be on Job Seeker at the moment and our business clients can’t get staff to come to work! ... The job must be an ‘EXTRA’ position so businesses need to increase the size of their team to benefit. No idea how they will monitor the compliance on this one but here’s the basics: - $200 per week for those aged 16-29 years - $100 per week for those aged 30-35 years - Minimum 20 hours per week - Payment is made for up to 12 months - Job must have been created after 7th October 2020 Yes this is great for businesses, still not sure how to get staff to go back to work though in the first place but that’s a whole other discussion for another day and I get the feeling this will be a fierce debate in the coming months to December. This means, it's about $10k per new position for a youngster and about $5k for someone with a little more apparent maturity and wisdom. #Budget2020

06.01.2022 It blows my mind that this time last year I did an RUOK post because 2019 was shaping up to be bloody tough for a lot of people. The drought was relentless. We were all choking on the dust from the storms. The cloud, while empty of rain, was full of sadness and it was getting darker by the day - and as an accountant and a financial adviser - I could see the toll it was taking on absolutely everyone. Then enters 2020 like a smug SOB. 2020 has taught us that RUOK Day has ...taken on an even *bigger* importance [if thats even possible] - not only for one day a year but for every single minute of every single day. It has taught us that *everyone* has a job to check in on their people, to genuinely ask if they are ACTUALLY okay and most importantly, they need to listen for the answer. The world is angry + volatile at the moment. Hate is thrown around like confetti, cancel-culture is real and judgement is flourishing like mould on a banana found deep in a kids schoolbag [only my kid? ]. Between the lockdowns, politics, the borders, the recession, people losing their jobs, families struggling, businesses having to close their doors and the general fact that we are all living a *freaking global health pandemic*..life is hectic and its a wild, wild world out there. Then we add the usual every day craziness like keeping small children fed, dressed + out of jail, marriages happy, bosses satisfied, bills paid.and wow, the pressure is REAL [and exhausting]. So today on RUOK Day - make a pact with yourself that from today, you will go and check in with your people on *more* than one day a year. You will do *more* than just post a pretty RUOK pic on your socials and move on. You will call. You will text. You will send a ridiculous meme that is guaranteed to make someone laugh. You will ask people if they are okay and then ask them again and again and again - and then LISTEN for the answer. You wont judge or compare - instead you will just care and love. You will stop being too busy or overwhelmed to see who needs you and spread love. Why? Because *TOGETHER* we can keep each other living our best life and flourishing under really awful circumstances. *Together* we can keep each other alive. We all need to be in this TO-GET-HER. Always know that my door is open and my phone is always on. But most importantly, know that its okay to not be okay. Broken crayons still colour. Taxchic.

06.01.2022 Have you organised your tax planning yet?

05.01.2022 APPRENTICES Want cheap labour, better be quick - there is a limit of 100,000. Okay, the cheap labour bit is possibly a bit rough but the reality is ScoMo is footing the bill and helping our business owners train the next generation of tradies. So for any young punks (or not so young punks) who are willing to give it a good red hot go, this measure will provide plenty of opportunities. Boosting Apprenticeship Wages Subsidy:... - Any new apprentice hired after 5th October 2020 - First year or mid-way through is acceptable too - 50% of gross wages paid from 5th Oct 2020 to 30th Sept 2021 - Maximum of $7k per quarter - Paid at the end of the Qtr through your apprenticeship provider This is in addition to the Supporting Apprentices and Trainees Program that started in March 2020. So, if you had an apprentice on at 1 July who is no longer receiving Job Keeper payments, they can go back to the 50% wage subsidy up to $7k per quarter per apprentice until March 2021. I’m really excited about this one, our business clients are already exhausted from trying to do it all and this is real money in their pockets that will translate into boots on the ground. #Budget2020

Wishing everyone a bumper harvest! North Star, you're next - put the kettle on.

01.01.2022 Lets talk STDs.....now dont choke on your coffee. *There will be no bees or birds in this conversation* What needs to be discussed here is sexually transmitted DEBT and how you can avoid it. Lets set out the scene here....so you are in a new relationship, have had a few dates, a smooch or two, and decide to take the next step.yet you dont really know this person or their history..so you decide to protect yourself. *Insert Home Alone OMG face here* Yep, we said it -... PROTECT YOURSELF. Its not rocket science and its something that has been drilled into us since the days of the awkward Sex Ed high school classes.
