25.01.2022 This client supplied Ultimatum U300 has been setup with a Lothar Walther Medium Sporter Varmint contour stainless barrel in 300 Blackout, 1:7" twist. She's been finished at 16" breechface to crown and had the muzzle threaded for a 5/8*24 device and supplied with a knurled aluminium thread protector. Finish is a bright linish. This one has come up as one would hope with all threads at the top end of the spec, the chamber finish is about perfect with next to no runout and headspace is close to zero.... Now to bwast some waskwy wabbits...

24.01.2022 This SMLE was rebuilt as a Tanker configured .22 Hornet. I’d picked up a shagged out Lithgow Hornet to rob for parts for the job, but I’d run it without the donor rifle next time and fabricate the mag adapter, ejector and spring. It’s been setup with a new Lothar Walther, .224 cal carrel with a 1:14 twist, and it’s been manually profiled to approximate the standard SMLE Knox detail. The rear sight base needed to be modified and it’s been fitted to the barrel contour and drilled and tapped and soldered in situ. The forend and top guard have been shortened, the rifles been bedded and the trigger worked. Timber was thoroughly cleaned up, stained and oiled and the rifle was tested at 50m with excellent results. I couldn’t be happier with how it performs and how it presents.

22.01.2022 This SMLE has been rebarrelled with a Lothar Walther H profile .303 Barrel, traditionally bedded, had the sights fitted and the trigger tuned. Blued, refinished and basically the works. We wanted to keep it military but tidy and clean and setup to perform. Just needs a test run but I’ve no doubt it’ll be just what the Doctor ordered.

21.01.2022 This Parker Hale, Safari Delux has been rebarrelled with a Lothar Walther, #2300 stainless blank, chambering in .243 Win, 1:8 twist. It’s been finished at 26 with a recessed target crown, and bright linished. Chamber is visually perfect with nil runout, threads are on the money, minimal headspace and she’s out the door for the client to stock up.

19.01.2022 This Ruger M77 has been rebarrelled with a Lothar Walther, Stainless, .243" cal, 1:8" twist, light weight varmint barrel blank, finished at 24" and chambered in .243 for use with some heavy pills for some long range target shooting and varminting. Again, the job went well and the fit an finish of the barrelling was as good as you could hope for. Flat out on the money. We opened out the barrel channel and left it on the previously setup bedding and it won't be long before there's some feedback on this one.

17.01.2022 The Lothar Walther #2260-26 Remington varmint stainless blank has been setup for a second barrel on a clients Ultimatum Deadline action at 20, in .338 Federal, with a 5/8*24 muzzle thread with protector. The client wanted some stopped thread protectors for the tendon threads, which I’ve done in aluminium. Though not for this job, I’ve got Terminator T2 and T3 brakes in stock now. The T3’s are ideal for this and similar contours.

16.01.2022 Ultimatum Deadline Short Action Repeaters Back in Stock Hi Guys, we've got a few Deadline Short Action Repeaters back in stock an a pile of barrel blanks to get you up and running fast. All bolthead options are on the shelf and we'll be doing a larger reorder later this month with pre orders for the Deuce. The action prices on the products in hand are as they were but there will be an increase on the next order due to all the usual stuff. I'll run the numbers and post a revis...ed price list when I've got a solid ETA on the Deuce. There's an unalocated Ultimatum Deadline Long Action, barrelled action in .338 Lapua Mag awaiting collection from Borderforce so if you have a dire need or a raging mongrel for that sort of hardware, you can have your hands around it in the next week or 2.

15.01.2022 This Remington 700 has been fitted with a side bolt stop/release. The scope mount holes have also been opened out to #8-40 as they were a bit butchered and somehow not exactly straight. The bolt release has been moved to about 10 oclock to avoid having to remove material from the stock, and while on the surface of it you'd think you could go higher, the present location is about as high as possible. In considering the holding for the job, I couldn't see any other option than a close fitting threaded mandrel in the dividing head, as the job needed to be accurately indexed 3 times in alignment with the boltway axis and all offsets were off the centreline. The pictured setup worked very well and there was no vibration or question as to the positioning... and the mandrel will be there for next time.

15.01.2022 Lothar Walther Order Hi gents, I'll be finalising another Lothar Walther https://www.lothar-walther.de/ in Early January for delivery in February or March 2021. Use the Lothar Walther (Germany) custom barrel specifier, email, or message me to get onto it and I'll shoot you a quote for supply ex Sydney. There's also several reamers being ordered that will be required for this batch of barrels so if you require a reamer not in stock we can get that in too within the same timef...rame. If you have an order in that was due in December, that order was received last week and they will be dispatched next week or fitted ASAP. There was quite a bit of stock in that order too, so we are flush with all the usual offerings. 1:9" and 1:12" twist .224 stainless remington varmint blanks are back on the shelf as well as all the Lee Enfield options, standard .303 SMLE, "H" profile SMLE, No4 .303 and No4 .308. The listings here https://www.usedguns.com.au/Dealer.aspx are pretty current. Anything on the shelf can be out the door next week before Christmas, any custom order and we'll get the on the list. 15.01.2022 This Rough-as-Guts No5 has been setup with a SIA .45ACP kit, fitted with a No4 foresight block and protector and a SIA pic rail scope mount. It’s been bead blasted and reblued and had the sight scale and bolt body polished, numbers re-engraved. Striker has been straightened and the sears stoned and polished. It’ll run as happily as a pretty one. Sayonara!!!

13.01.2022 Ultimatum Precision .338 Lapua Magnum Hey Gents, Just cleared the balance of the recent Ultimatum Precision order which is a .338 LM barrelled action, 26" IBI, 1:9", 5R, threaded for 3/4*24. Serial number: UP00671 There's just the one in this order though there will be more in the next shipment. Ready to go @ $3400

13.01.2022 This Sako S20 was rebarrelled with a client supplied IBI carbon wrapped blank. It’s been chambered in 28 Nosler and the job went great. Next to no runout on the chamber, excellent thread fit, excellent internal finish and very little headspace. This required a new wrench head to clear the integrated pic rail which fitted fine with a paper card to protect the finish. A couple of dummy rounds were loaded long to check for adequate throat length, which this reamer had, so no independent throating required. Engraved for calibre, paperwork submitted and out the door on Monday.

12.01.2022 This Lothar Walther .30 cal, 1:10 twist #2100-26 light weight varmint blank has been setup for an Ultimatum Deadline action running as a pistol. In 300 RUM you’d want to hold onto your tits! The job was on the money, nil runout on the chamber, top of the chart fit on the threads, everything straight.

11.01.2022 This batch of .45ACP, No4 Carbines will dispatch to Claremont Firearms on Tuesday. They've been rebuilt from Claremont Firearms donor No4 rifles and I'm very happy with them. They've been fitted with SIA .45ACP conversion kits, had the foresight block taper bored to suit the new profile and fitted, stocked up in the modified original woods in L42 configuration, refinished, reblued, bolts fitted and numbered, bolt bodies polished, made to feed, extract and eject, strikers stra...ightened, sears stoned flat, triggers setup and fitted with SIA pic rails. One thing that crops up quite a bit with this model and the No1 Mk111 is the safety lug on the bolt body sheering. In this lot of rifles there were 2 with this issue. The problem is that with that lug missing everything will seem fine, but the rifle has the capacity to discharge out of battery. These bolt bodies were replaced and fitted up properly. Another part that had been replaced was the butt plates. Usually these are reusable and fine, but these were all pretty crook, one was a casting with no trap and one was flat out broken. All in all what you'd expect of 80 year old service rifles, now thoroughly worked over and rebuilt to do another solid innings. Get in touch with the great guys at Claremont Firearms if you want one. 10.01.2022 This little job was just to convert this old Stevens Favourite to .25ACP... No doubt it's a conversion that's been done a bit back in the day but really it's no cake-walk. The breechblock needed to be modified to centrefire for a start and the firing pin replaced, then the new chamber is a lot shorter than the old one so most of the tennon needed to go as well as the old chamber being a larger diameter. The chambering and headspace is pretty conventional but the barrel locki...ng grub screw is a 55 tapered counterbore and that required a custom ground tool to get the right feature. The case head diameter on this is also smaller than the original, being semi-rimless and while the original extractor sometimes extracted the case it was too short for reliable extraction and needed to be extended and reshaped and fitted. The rear scope dovetail was simply soldered in situ and therefore the relocated base couldn't take hot blue so it just had to be done neatly and touched up. All good, but a good illustration of how sometimes a simple job really isn't that simple or rather is fraught with pitfalls See more

10.01.2022 This Lothar Walther Light Sporter Varmint, stainless, .243 calibre, 1:8 twist blank has been chambered in 6mm Dasher and setup to suit a clients Ultimatum Deadline short action as a second barrel. It’s a 320grit bright linish finish. It’s been done off measurements and it’s come up ideally. Everything is on the numbers, straight and concentric. I’ve got no doubt she’ll do the business.

08.01.2022 New Ultimatum Deadline Order Hi Gents, I will be placing a reorder for Ultimatum Precision Deadline actions and parts on Monday 03 August. We have been very lucky to have pushed out the price rise for one more order, but be advised it's one order only. ETA of this order will be late September-Early October. For all Deadline Short actions we'll be able to hold the current pricing. Long actions have gone up a small amount as we were absorbing previous increases with the bolt up...grade, but these too will go up on future orders. These are the Gen 2 short actions, and upgraded bolt Long actions running up to .338 LM and they look f'ken awesome. Let me know what you want and secure the listed pricing with a 50% deposit. Note that factory barrelled actions will only be bought in on order, stock actions will be offered with locally fitted Lothar Walther options. We'll do our best to mitigate the future increase but it'll have to be around the $150-$190 mark. Save the dollars and get in on this one. See more

07.01.2022 Hey Gents, I've been offline for a bit while I setup my new workshop and got it all licenced and what-not. However the licence was issued at the new premises in Moorebank today and we're all signed off and running. If you'd been to the old Dungeon you'd know the step up this represents and you might be able to imagine how I'm enjoying the space. We've had a good guy helping out for a couple of days a week for the past 6 months or so and he's moving into a full time Fitting an...d Machining apprenticeship (here) and we're looking for a qualified guy for a start in the new year. It's been nice warming up over the past couple of weeks and it'll be great to hit it hard from today. No doubt the place will develop from here in terms of layout and machinery, but it's doing what it needs to, and I'm really looking forward to posting some jobs as they move through. See more

06.01.2022 This No4 has been setup with a SIA .45 ACP kit, fitted with a NOS No5 micrometer rear sight, had the bolt fitted and numbered to match, the extractor cut made, the extractor modified and the system made to run. The foresight block needs to be taper bored to suit the barrel contour and then driven onto the taper securing with locktite, then the barrel machined for relief of the foresight protector screw. Bolts are numbered to match when fitted not to fool anyone, but simply to clearly identify the bolt to that rifle. There's been no refinishing as the customer wanted to keep the cost down and put it in a stock himself and refinish later if he felt like it. After an ultrasonic clean most of these action look respectable enough for a banger and a reblue or Cerakote at any stage down the track is no big deal.

04.01.2022 Lothar Walther Barrels Reorder Hi Gents, we've got a pretty solid shipment of Lothar Walther Barrel blanks landing today including a new batch of Standard Contour (normal light No1Mk3) SLME prefits, Remington Varmint .204 stainless blanks, 1:7.5" twist 6mm stainless blanks, Remington Varmint .224 stainless blanks in 1:9 and 1:12" plus all the usual culprits and some other bits and pieces. The next order into which we can get custom orders is landing in September and closing early-mid August. If you've got something in mind that's not on the shelf give us a shout, we'll price it up and get it in on your approval. https://www.lothar-walther.de/ We've got an ever growing reamer bank and will do our best to get you barrel in and your job out on spec, on time and on budget.

04.01.2022 This M96 Swedish Mauser has been rebarrelled with a Lothar Walther M96 prefit, the sights have been moved to the new barrel, it's been reblued with the bolt polished and a crack behind the tang has been fixed. The crack behind the tang is common with these type of tangs where the bedding has failed and/or there has been insufficient clearance on the tang. In this case there was just insufficient clearance and the bedding looked fine. So I cut out the crack and filled it with a new timber biscuit and milled it out for appropriate clearance on the tang. Timber has just been washed and oiled.

04.01.2022 Hey Guys, we're wrapping it up for the year and back on the 11th of January. This year has really been a good one from our perspective. We've got into new, quality commercial premises, started a good apprentice and a fitter/machinist. These guys and the new facility will provide a platform for greatly improved output over the next serveral years. Already with the additional space and labour jobs have been moving through much more efficiently and at the required quality level.... We still have a way to go and early next year we're receiving substantial machinery to aid productivity and we'll keep working on organisation and processes to better serve customers, better do the job and deliver on schedule. If you have an outstanding job here, and there are a few remaining that are too long here, those will be the first cabs off the rank in 2021 and we'll have them out and back you ASAP. We've just recently received a bunch more barrel blanks from Lothar Walther and the listing are current on Usedguns: https://www.usedguns.com.au/Dealer.aspx for any orders on any of the listed products placed from now and paid for before 11 January I'll offer 10% off the listed price and free postage within Australia. Items to be posted out week starting 11 January. Thanks for support over the year and all the best for Christmas and 2021. See more

03.01.2022 A couple of jobs needed doing that required machining the boltface. I knew a fixture would be required but when it came to doing it I didn’t want something so specific that it would only do the jobs in hand. So I found some pictures of a universal bolt and action truing fixture that I thought would be good.... but not 5 minutes work. It took about a day to make but did the first of the 2 jobs today in about half an hour. I’ve got no doubt I will use it all the time. The runout at the end when clocked up in the 4 jaw is about 0.001 and it’s pretty well balanced.

01.01.2022 This Howa was rebarrelled a while ago and shot well but was blanking primers. The firing pin hole has been laser welded and drilled to 0.060", then faced off and polished with a cratex stick. Headspace was not measurably impacted. The firing pin was ground to a very close fit and the tip rounded and polished. I'd initially set this up to finish off last week but couldn't touch the boltface or the weld with high speed steel, and need to order some solid carbide shoulder drills and grind a stub boring/facing tool from an old carbide end mill. The jig made for this runs very true and bolts can be dialled in pretty quickly, very precisely and very securely. It was happy as Larry running at 600RPM and it'd handle faster if needed.
