22.01.2022 HE PITO MATA You know what e te whnau, we’ve had this waiata under our hat for a little while now. But the time never felt right to release it. But we’re hopin...g some good vibes might help in this crazy situation we’re all in. To celebrate five years of the iwi’s flagship cultural initiative for youth, Mana Rangatahi, a new waiata was composed by the man himself Tawaroa Kawana. We were so honoured to host Tawaroa here in Te Tauihu and have the chance to work with him. Here are some of our rangatahi singing HE PITO MATA. As well as celebrating the Mana Rangatahi wnanga, the song is all about encouraging our rangatahi to learn about their cultural identity and stand proud. Big ups to Kiley Nepia aka Papa K, Tawaroa Kawana, Matt Sadgrove, Keelan Walker at Loud Noise Media and Billy Wilson for helping this to become a reality. And also to the talented rangatahi, the next gen - they’ve got this! Jump in, have a jam and sing it out loud whnau!
