23.01.2022 Working from Home? Stay secure! When you allow remote access into business systems you are increasing your risk of being hacked or infected with ransomware. DO:... *Ensure your backup solution is current, tested and able to cope with ransomware which will destroy your files and any backups connected to the system. *Make sure any remote access solution you implement is consulted with your IT provider to ensure you understand the risks and limitations of different solutions. *Remove any remote solutions that were installed specifically for this short term event as soon as you no longer need them. *Have regular checks to ensure your security is maintained and perform regular Windows Updates *Use 2FA (Multi Factor Authentication) for all services that support it (emails, banking, facebook, CRM software etc) DON'T: *Don't use unprotected home computers to log in to work networks as any security risks or ransomware can transfer through work VPN's. All home computers should be up to date with quality antivirus programs and have been checked for any malware that was missed by your antivirus program before setting up work from home. *Don't save passwords for remote connections (e.g. VPN) to allow for quicker access as this also allows for unauthorised access if your computer gets stolen or used by someone who shouldn't have access to your work files. *Don't use the same password for everything. You can use a secure password manager like LastPass to generate and store random passwords for all your services. *Don't allow children to play on computers that you use for work. They can accidentally delete files or download ransomware. *Don't leave any work connections (e.g. VPN) open when you leave your computer unattended. Always lock your computer with a password when leaving the room.
