24.01.2022 https://www.theguardian.com//deep-literacy-technology-chil It is not impossible to practice deep thoughtful reading on screens, like this one, Wolf argues. It is just harder, because of the distractions offered by screens in a digital era. We share a piece of research like this, but you are probably better to buy her book in print or read on a dedicated e-reader, her research suggests. To skim to inform is the new norm for reading. What goes missing are deep reading proce...sses which require a quality of attention increasingly at risk in a culture and on a medium in which constant distraction bifurcates our attention. These processes include connecting background knowledge to new information, making analogies, drawing inferences, examining truth value, passing over into the perspectives of others (expanding empathy and knowledge), and integrating everything into critical analysis. Deep reading is our species bridge to insight and novel thought. See more

16.01.2022 The Copyright agency is supporting Australian writers festivals. "CEO Adam Suckling said the creative infrastructure supporting the production, promotion and sales of writing and visual arts work is being smashed, and that writers, visual artists and publishers are doing it very tough. Covid-19 could have a truly devastating effect on the work of Australian writers and visual artists and on the value and reach of Australian story telling, he said. It is difficult to overstate just how hard people in the sector work, what a grind it can be and how precarious things are presently.
