24.01.2022 The annual finale to Bird Month kicks off this weekend with the NSW Twitchathon. This year's great cause is "The Origma Enigma - Where Are The NSW Cryptic Birds and How Can We Save Them" I will be doing the 8 hour race this Saturday and if you would like to sponsor my team (If I Knew You Were Coming I'd Have Baked A Crake) will be looking to spot as many species as possible between the Royal National Park and the Capertee Valley! Follow the link below for more information and details on how to sponsor teams. http://www.twitch24nsw.org/ PS I have heard rumours of another Tempe Birdos based team, so let me know your details too, and I might share ;)

23.01.2022 Hello folks from North Sydney and users of trains. We need some help! Last night a POwl was rescued from inside a train in Hornsby. If anyone has news of this... event through social media or saw this happen can you please contact us? He looks like an adult male and at this part of the season may be supporting his mate. If we can pinpoint where he entered the train, we have a better chance of getting him back to his family ASAP provided rehab goes well. Any news on this greatly appreciated. 23.01.2022 It’s survey time again. Spring is well under way and there are nests and chicks everywhere. Not to mention cuckoos. Join us on Saturday morning to see who’s visiting Tempe this spring, and who has chosen to raise the next generation there! We meet at the big open space just off South and Station Streets from 0730 and the surveys start at 0800. No equipment or experience necessary, but bring a mug for morning tea after the surveys. Hope to see you all there.

23.01.2022 Hello Tempe Birdos - we're back! Join us this Saturday June 13th for our first winter survey. We will be observing social distancing rules as well as the birds so please come along and join us. However, if you are feeling unwell, government advice is still to stay clear of other people, so stay snug in bed and join us in spirit! We will meet at the usual spot just off Station and South Streets from 0730 and the surveys will start at 8. I don't expect more than 20 people, ...so we will be OK to survey the two areas. At morning tea we will grab two picnic shelters and, again, practice our social distancing skills. Please consider your fellow birders' safety at this time, as well as your own. Hope to see a few of you there on Saturday - rain or shine! UPDATE: As groups of 20 will be allowed outdoors from Saturday, we will be able to freely mingle, with social distancing, even if everyone turns up!

22.01.2022 If you can stomach it, this is a fabulous little story about helping the 40 Spotted Pardalote beat parasites that wreak havoc on their young. Not only that, but it takes the hard work out of nesting too! https://theconversation.com/scientists-devised-a-cheap-inge

22.01.2022 Don't forget the survey this Saturday 11th July from 0730. Meet at the open space just off Station and South Streets for an 0800 start. All ages and experience welcome, and there is morning tea afterwards! July is a very active time in the bird world with nest building happening and spring very much in the front of all those birdie brains. It is also Yellow-tail Black-cockatoo time, if we are lucky. Hope to see you all there. ****Covid-19 Update - the premier is due to make an announcement in the next day or so re new restrictions so watch this space. Hopefully is we are all sensible, we should be able to meet as usual****

21.01.2022 There's only 1 week to go until the Aussie Backyard Bird Count begins have you registered yet? By participating in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, you will be helping BirdLife Australia find out about the birds that live where people live. This is especially important because it’s these more common species that give us the best indication of the health of the environment think of birds as a barometer for nature. And if that's not incentive enough, there are some exciting prizes on offer. With thanks to our generous supporters, you could win a pair of Swarovski binoculars, a custom "create your own flock" print by Egg Picnic, or a mixed pack of Merini Ferlazzo stationery. Simply submit a count from 19-25 October to be in the running!

17.01.2022 Do you know your Inner West birds? Here's a podcast to introducing you to your avian neighbours https://www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au//library-p/adult-programs

15.01.2022 Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the birdies is! Well wonder no more. Come down to the Tempe water basins on Saturday morning and join us on the first survey of SPRING. There’s lots of nesting action going on, cuckoos are on the prowl and even Top-knot Pigeons have been spotted in the area. It promises to be a great survey (though no promises!) so why not join us from 0730-0800 at the big open area just of Smith and South Strets. No experience or equipment needed though binoculars will be useful and a mug for morning tea after the survey ensures you can whet your whistle.

13.01.2022 A nesting Powerful Owl pair may be impacted by a development in Gladesville if it goes ahead. A petition has been raised by the Animal Rescue Co-operative (ARC) and endorsed by the Bird Society and WIRES. They are requesting that Council conduct a Species Impact Statement, as these birds are listed as a threatened species.

13.01.2022 Here’s an exercise in decifering birdsong! There’s a Superb Lyrebird in the distance, but see what other birds you can hear. This was recorded on the escarpment above North Nowra on the weekend.

11.01.2022 Tiffany Mason from the BCT shows us how easy it is to make a bird bath for your garden, and it doesn't even have to be pretty!

08.01.2022 Nice article about sightings of Glossy Black-cockatoos in unusual places. Also good to know, I'm not the only person who dances and squeals when they spot rare birds, even if I am related to this 'bird nerd' https://mobile.abc.net.au//glossy-black-cockatoo-/12440308
